NFT: New York Mets vs. Toronto Blue Jays - Afternoon Delight

arcarsenal : 5/16/2018 1:15 pm
Just started up - Wheeler has of course failed to get out of the first inning without allowing a run... again.

1. Juan Lagares (R) CF
2. Asdrubal Cabrera (S) 2B
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
4. Michael Conforto (L) RF
5. Phillip Evans (R) LF
6. Luis Guillorme (L) 3B
7. Jose Lobaton (S) C
8. Zack Wheeler (L) P
9. Amed Rosario (R) SS

Nice to see the bats wake up last night - but it'll be a challenge to keep that going with Cespedes and Frazier on the DL.

Harvey takes the mound in about 25 minutes
Vanzetti : 5/16/2018 3:12 pm : link
With Wheeler and Vargas totally imploding; it will be interesting to see what Matt does
Yikes. So much for Wheelers nice start.
ZGiants98 : 5/16/2018 3:14 pm : link
Oh well. Another split.
Zach Wheeler last 3 starts

16 IP, 21H, 9BB, 15 ER.

Awful!
Wheeler is a lost cause
Vanzetti : 5/16/2018 3:21 pm : link
Move him to the pen and see if he can do better there

However, he should be done as a starter
Another Sandy special
Metnut : 5/16/2018 3:22 pm : link
AJ Ramos in the game and getting shelled. Guy is only pitchable in blowouts. I don't understand what the point of that trade was.

.
arcarsenal : 5/16/2018 3:36 pm : link
Ramos is garbage. He has to fool hitters with 5 different pitches because most of them are trash.
This era of starting pitching
Chris684 : 5/16/2018 3:37 pm : link
is over for the Mets before it ever got started.

I'd love to know the rational in giving Sandy an extension...

There is no rationale or logic when it comes to the Mets.

The owners obviously don't prioritize winning much. Otherwise we wouldn't be closing in on another decade of futility.

I don't see this thing turning around any time soon, either. Where is the help coming from?

I remember being excited down the stretch of the 2014 season because all of the pitchers were starting to get up here, Conforto was on the way, the MLB team looked like it was finally headed in the right direction... not even 4 years later, and we have barely anything to show for it.

Its really depressing. They also don't have any exciting young athletic position players currently. Cespedes is but he's always hurt. Conforto hopefully recovers but who knows. Rosario is a big unknown. Simply put they aren't entertaining right now and hard to watch.

Degrom and Noah are fun to watch but the rest of the rotation is complete dogshit.

If you take away Wright's salary which insurance is covering, their payroll is about 16th in the league. Its pathetic.

Man thats ugly. Outside of resigning Cespedes which he was all but forced to do, has Sandy had 1 good FA signing? I guess Grandy and Colon if you can consider those good signings but thats about it.
I find myself facing the fact that the Mets aren't a good team
Ira : 5/16/2018 4:05 pm : link
and that the pitching staff we had high hopes for is totally lacking in depth. There are some good ones to build around, but bandaids won't fix it. I think we need to rebuild around the more talented young players.

It really seems like having an offseason this bad would be difficult to accomplish if one was trying to fail.
two hits?

that's all we got, two god damned hits?

at least it's not over yet.

I've been a Mets fan for most of my life - I wouldn't be able to tell you based on anything I've seen here lately.

Vargas signing was grand larceny. Fireable offense imo

Let’s hope Alonso and McNeil are the real deal. The minors look empty otherwise. Maybe Peterson but he is only in low A.

DMM, Shecky, Mike, ZG all those guys all know more than me, but McNeil is 26 already. Maybe a late bloomer. Seems like he's hit consistently throughout his career for average, never had much power until this recent surge from what I can tell.

Does it really matter anyway.
PhiPsi125 : 5/16/2018 9:14 pm : link
They can all tear up the minors...they’ll just come up and shit the bed in the pros anyway as long as they put on a Met uniform.

Not if they get the right launch angle
