Grey, give me food preferences and price ranges...
Maryland Giant : 5/16/2018 7:20 pm : link
...and I will give you a good list.

Also, will you have a car?
No huge price range limit
Grey Pilgrim : 5/16/2018 7:28 pm : link
Probably less than $50 per person (including appetizers) if I had to guess. Slightly more would not be a problem.

My two favorite cuisines are French and Italian.

And, yes we will have a car.

TIA

from being very touristy IMO. Lots of places to drink and eat seafood but nothing stands out to me. Sorry, that doesn’t help you at all,
Cantlers

If you don’t mind venturing away from downtown a bit. Less touristy. They pull the crabs right out of the water. They’re delicious.
Cantler’s or

Mike’s are solid choices for crabs, especially if you want local seafood. Late June is sort of the beginning of the local crab season (from what I have heard.). My fiend who worked at Obricki’s for decades doesn’t trust crabs to be local until August. He might be crazy, I don’t notice the difference.
There’s not a great restaurant in downtown Annapolis
AnnapolisMike : 5/16/2018 10:34 pm : link
especially Italian. Cafe Normandie (French) is good on Main Street. Cantlers is good if you want Crabs...but may not be local this early in the season and is a 10 minute drive from downtown. If you want seafood go to Carrols Creek. Vin 909 is very good and The Boatyard is My go to place for good food and a great local atmosphere. All three are walkable from downtown Annapolis across the drawbridge in Eastport. Gun to my head I send you to the Boatyard. Lewnes Steakhouse is awesome...but you are looking at $150-200 for a couple.

If you are around for breakfast...Iron Rooster or Boatyard again.

Top it off with ice cream from Annapolis Ice Cream Company on Main Street.

Annapolis Mike covered a lot of ground....

I agree with much of what he says. Sounds like I may me more fond of Cafe Normandie though. They also have Avery reasonable early bird prix fixed menu.

As for Italian, just a couple doors down from Cafe Normandie is Osteria 177. Not a red sauce joint and not cheap, but good service, nice setting, very good food.

Also there are a couple good pubs in town...my faves are Galway Bay and McGarveys.

Cannot speak highly enough about Cantler’s as a classic Maryland dining experience. Very informal, waterfront crab house. Don’t miss it.

Finally Vin 909 is excellent (but go early or wait), Iron Rooster is a very good “gourmet” breakfast all day place that is solid, and for an Annapolis classic try Chick & Ruth’s Delly for huge sandwiches, great breakfasts, giant milkshakes, and some really good crab cakes.

Take a boat tour up the Severn River too. Also, Naval Academy tours are cheap ($10) and lots of history and a beautiful campus.

Have fun!

Have fun!
Auto correct got me a couple times.

Sorry for the prix “fixed”

Naval Academy Induction Day is on June 28 this year. It is the first day of Plebe Summer when all the newest Midshipmen are dropped by their parents and their career begins.

Two things...1) it will be very busy. 2) it is an interesting day to be on campus to see all the processing going on and there is a ceremony at about 5:00!that day when kids say their goodbyes and get marched into Bancroft Hall.

Again, enjoy your time and happy to answer any more questions you have.

To add to what Maryland Giants Says
AnnapolisMike : 5/17/2018 7:14 am : link
My personal rule of thumb is to go a unique place that the locals go to and you will rarely go wrong. If you want to pick crabs...Cantlers is a must visit. Skip it otherwise. Galway Bay is a really good Irish Pub a block from the Statehouse. Chick and Ruth’s for lunch or breakfast only, but it is a unique Annapolis joint. If a casual place is what you are looking for...I am still going to recommend The Boatyard. Go online and check out menus and reviews.

In addition to touring the Academy, you can take a Historic Annapolis tour. There is a ton of history in Annapolis. You can just walk around the Academy as well.

And if you are here on Induction Day, the town will be overrun so plan accordingly.
I'll second

Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub - we enjoyed lunch there and will go again next time we visit Annapolis.

Haha, I usually just use him to spite my enemies but he also has a surprisingly sophisticated palate.
Thanks for the thread.

I will be there next weekend. My brother lives there, but he is relatively new to the area (maybe about a year), so he probably hasn't even tried some of these places yet.

If your not careful you easily end up eating tourist crap. But there are good choices both downtown and not too far outside of town.

Boatyard Grill is outstanding, very reasonably priced, and is basically downtown. It is a must.

Cantlers is a local gem for crabs and seafood appetizers but you will need to drive or Uber a short drive.

Paul’s Cafe on West street is a nice, quaint spot for lunch or dinner.

Vin 909 in Eastport is a trendy pizza and wine joint.

Lewnes for steak. $$$$

Osteria on Main Street is pretty decent for Italian.

If you like Sushi, Joss has some of the best I’ve ever had and is right on Main Street.

For breakfast try Miss Shirley’s or Iron Rooster. Iron a Rooster gets crowded quickly but is exceptional food. You can also go to Chik n Ruth for a more traditional breakfast and a bit of an Annapolis ‘institution’.

If you are willing to drive there are some great waterfront dining spots not far outside of town. “The Point Seafood” in Arnold is fantastic.

Take sometime to walk around. It is really a great city. Enjoy!
