“Recently, I underwent an annual physical, during which it was discovered I have lymphoma. Over the past week, I have undergone more testing to determine the course of treatment, which is scheduled to start in the very near future..."
Sheesh sorry. My brain got ahead of my writing. The “non” in my post was me thinking non-serious, not non Hodgkins..It just came out that way. Hodgkins patients do quite well, like 8 or 9 out of 10 survival..
Kevin Abrams learned under him and is a very capable to share the load. Keeping him was a smart move by the organization if this is new news, which I doubt. DG wants to leave as a Giant which most of us understand if that is the case
news. I love how dedicated he is to the team even during a health scare like this, but part of me feels like a Leave of Absence and appointment of interim GM is best for him. That way he can take a step back and get healthy. Best wishes.
but not curable. A relative of mine was diagnosed with lymphoma a few years back. He was in his mid-50s. He went through chemo and is in remission. They told him something to the effect of "We can hold this off for about 10 years. And there are new treatments coming online all the time." So he might outlive the 10 years, especially if some of the new therapies become available.
My dad is battling cancer now and this is scary stuff. The treatment takes a toll on your mentally and physically. I wonder if Gettleman is going to have to step down.
cantaloupe in left hip also one the size of golf ball in the shoulder and in my bone marrow. It recurred twice but nothing since 2000 after chemo and radiation. I have had other complications but not return of cancer so far... I was much younger and able to fight off most things so I hope he responds good to the treatment.
At Mr Gettleman's age Non HL more likely with a considerably lower %cure. A lot depends on the histology and the extent of involvement of the disease. Best we can do is pray for his health, survival, and well being.
Besides having huge consequences for Mr G and his family, there will be huge reprucussions for his and our Giant family.

This is true. My relative spoke often of having "chemo brain," which is a general fogginess. He really couldn't work while undergoing treatment. I believe he also called it "cancer brain" as he didn't feel right before treatment, either. Chemo Brain - ( New Window )
wishing the best to DG. Sandy Alderson got a cancer diagnosis in 2015 at 68 and went through chemo. I don’t know what he had & obviously do not know the severity of what DG has.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Eric. I wish him the best and pray for his recovery.

He’s a Giant. He will kick that Lymphomia’s ass and be back to lead us in no time!!
I thought Non Hodgkins was the worse one
Hodgkins is the one with the high survival rate

I was really looking forward to hearing him speak, but obviously more disappointed reading this news.
