NFT: High-end Stereo equipment .... any fans?

short lease : 6/5/2018 8:48 pm

I do have some nice equipment but, NO WHERE NEAR ..... the price ranges of this equipment. Not sure I would spend this kind of money - even if I had it.

Anyway, if you can imagine it - it is probably out there.

Million $ speaker systems - ( New Window )

Hmmmn....early retirement or great speaker system. Which to choose?

I’m not into but knew someone who had an $60,000 system and lusted for more. My question was always if a $60k system isn’t enough for a home what is and how much is a marginal improvement worth?

Thomas, IMO .... High end stereo equipment can be an addiction like hobby. I was never in a position where I could go out and buy the whole system with 1 stop and shop afternoon ... so I would buy 1 component at a time (or upgrade 1 component at a time). I would pick out the component I wanted and sometimes save money for up to a year and when it came time - I would still be in this psychological/spiritual battle over the equipment and money being spent. I would buy it, take it home, set it up .... and listen. No, matter how great it sounded - I remember getting this empty feeling inside about the purchase soon afterwards.

Didn't matter though - I would start all over with the next piece - save for a year (sometimes literally). Sometimes even with the money saved - I would still put another 3-4-5 grand extra on the credit card (and then wait to pay that off) ... anyway, it really was like an obsessive compulsive pattern I found myself in the middle of many times - swearing that it was the last time.

But, the high fidelity I was left with ..... at the end of the 10 years plus project - stills sounds great.
