Even with him resuming baseball activities, we all know the chance of him returning to the field is a long shot. With Frazier at 3B, do you think the Mets should consider seeing if Wright could rehab at 1B? It would put less stress on his shoulder and maybe prolong his career until Alonso is ready to take over.

Thoughts?
I think David Wright should retire...

Bullpen and lack of offense

Will combine for a series sweep
Oh boy, REALLY glad to have Todd Frazier back.
PhiPsi125 : 6/6/2018 3:13 pm : link
Really providing that piece weve been missing. His lack of hitting has fit right in. Like he never left.

Pretty well have Cespedes returning to boost up the strikeout numbers too! Woo hoo!

Well, he did go his normal 1-8 over two games, so hes super excited.
The Mets were just swept at home by the 18-41
Metnut : 6/6/2018 3:43 pm : link
Orioles. They are now 16-31 in their last 47 games (not exactly a small sample). They've been outscored by 32 runs on the season. 3 of the 4 other teams in the division have both better major league teams and minor league systems than the Mets.

Can someone please explain why Sandy Alderson has any job security? When is enough enough?

remember if 2015 when they got Uribe and KJ, DFA'd Mayberry and Terry Collins declared "from now on whoever produces plays!" as if that shouldn't always be the case. We are relieving exactly what happened in June/early July of that year when the entire org was just slow to react in any meaningful way to hold anyone accountable. Some ideas on how they could do that:

- Cut Reyes.
- Tell Bruce he's primarily playing first from now on and if he can't outhit Gonzalez he's on the bench.
- Bench anyone who makes a lazy play or multiple mental mistakes in the field.
- Fire or reassign a coach or two, like the hitting coach who Callaway inherited anyway.

The scary thing is Callaway has made as many mistakes as anyone over this last stretch and there aren't that many ways to discipline/hold a manager accountable.
This is awesome

Friday is an enormous day for fans of records and milestones.

The #Mets will be attempting to match their franchise record for most consecutive games scoring 1 or 0 runs https://www.baseball-reference.com/tiny/uJasL

Yeah, Terry said that and NEVER followed through on it. Thats no what propelled them to the postseason. It was Cespedes going on an impossible run, catching fire for a month and zero competition. Plus the Mets were in a much better position. Things were never even close to this bad in 2015.
The hitting is atrocious. We need a closer.
Ira : 6/6/2018 4:10 pm : link
Nice effort by Wheeler.
I never meant to imply that propelled them into the postseason
Eric on Li : 6/6/2018 4:16 pm : link
The talent they added propelled them into the postseason (obviously Cespedes being the center of that).

My point was entirely about the institutional apathy of the organization towards winning. These losing streaks don't just come out of nowhere. They are the result of a conscious lack of commitment to winning.
Well sometimes maybe you have
Metnut : 6/6/2018 4:25 pm : link
to hit rock bottom before things can turn. They were just swept at home by one of the worst teams in baseball. Maybe this Yankee series somehow sparks them and turns things around. Didn't something like that happen in 1999?
Problem is
gmen9892 : 6/6/2018 4:39 pm : link
I keep thinking this team has hit rock bottom, yet somehow, they always manage to 1-up themselves. Swept by the Marlins, lost to the Reds, and now lost to the worst team in baseball.

The Starting Pitching has been nothing short of spectacular of the past 18+ games. The bullpen looks to finally be coming together with the addition of Swarzak and Lugo sent back.

The hitting, in the words of Gary Cohen, is the worst we have ever seen from a Mets team. That is saying a lot considering all the shit shows we have seen in the past. This is a new low. They have hitters who have hit in the majors before, but they just all look lost. The only hope is that when Yo comes back, he takes the pressure off of some of these guys and adds the spark back that only a superstar can add.

If not......well its going to be a long summer and next few years, because this team should be considering a serious rebuild.

P.J. Conlon's stay in Los Angeles lasted less than a week. The Mets re-claimed Conlon off waivers from the Dodgers, and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets DFA'd Phillip Evans for the second time in eight months.

I honestly think that would be the biggest mistake this era of the franchise could make. I'd rather trade Wheeler/Matz

on Manny Machado. good idea right?
David Wright is not coming back
Vanzetti : 6/6/2018 8:35 pm : link
David does not want to be seen as a guy who just collected a paycheck. So he is making every effort to get back. Its admirable in terms of character but utterly meaningless in baseball terms
Please....
Knineteen : 6/6/2018 11:35 pm : link
Wright IS just collecting a paycheck. I don't blame him one bit, nor do I blame the Mets for letting insurance pay for all of it.
But the best outcome for all is for Wright to be "injured" another season or two and then retire with dignity.

No one can take this "comeback" seriously. And the Mets can't cater to him regardless of his status with the organization. He's been unreliable for 4 years now and refuses to retire. At some point, the organization needs to take a stand.
Matz and Wheeler pitch great

no one is taking Wright's comeback seriously.

But, and this has been discussed ad nauseum, so not sure why people don't understand.

Wright is owed $27M guaranteed dollars AFTER this season, and for 2018 he is owed $20M. His contract is insured for 75% of the contract value.

The only way it would make sense for the Mets to try and settle with Wright to "walk away" is if Wright agreed to less than 25% of what he is guaranteed to receive.

I would question Wright for "collecting a pay check" but I'm not a judgmental douche bag who is sure I would walk away from over $40M because I got injured giving 100% to the team I love.

The solution with Wright
Metnut : 6/7/2018 9:21 am : link
is a 3 way settlement between Wright/Mets/insurance company. Insurance company pays 68-73% of Wright's salary (still the bulk of the money but less than they would sans settlement), Wright takes 98 or so the money owed to him (he still gets paid and gets to stop this humiliating fraud comeback) and Mets pay the balance (Mets might not want to do this because they like to claim Wright's money on payroll to the press and idiot Met fans even though they only pay 25% of it).

I doubt it'll happen, and maybe Wright really still thinks he can play so he's not going to give up, but the whole thing is an embarrassing IMO.

Exactly. Why people would expect him to walk away from that money is beyond me. Would anyone here?
