Everything in this story shows what makes a great QB and I think Webb will be the heir when it’s all said and done with. He has an insatiable drive that you don’t see from many QBs. That obsessiveness that borders psychotic with the necessary physical tools to boot. A part of me almost hopes he gets meaningful snaps this year but that mean something bad happened with Eli.
is that he may become too robotic. He had to learn the position all over again..... and is so obsessed with every aspect that sometimes you wonder if it becomes a deterrent. He wasnt overly impressive in college despite having the same attributes.
His work ethic and arm strength are great, but he lacks many other attributes needed to be a franchise QB. He will work hard at getting there, but will it be enough?

Hopefully we are blowing teams out and you can have him come in for mop up duty..
on the roster right now. Hopefully, one will stick. Lauletta seems to be the one more likely to develop that Webb. But as long one as one of them does...
Will have this year and next pre season to prove if one of them is the successor.
Eli will play for 2 years , unless injured.
Who does what now is slightly irrelevant.

I wouldn't bank on next year just yet. If we end up with a losing record I could see the team moving on from Eli after this year.

No doubt he has the intangibles, we won't know anything until he gets out on the field. Sy' compared him to OsWielder as his pro upside, so his accuracy probably has more to be desired.
Many players who are not good enough to be starters Â
coming out this past year, and in the same conference. He'd got the size, smarts, arm, and athletic ability to be a good one. Time will tell if he gets there.
right after this past draft and was so impressed with him as person. All he talked about was how hard he's working and wants to learn be successful. He's a very impressive young man and I'm routing for him.

And even in Webb's year, a year with barely one QB worth taking, no one was especially sold on him. And this is a league where if teams think you're one or two years away from being a starting QB, you will still go in the first or second round.
coming out this past year, and in the same conference. He'd got the size, smarts, arm, and athletic ability to be a good one. Time will tell if he gets there.
His YPA was one of the worst in college and that’s coming from an offense that is suppose to have a high YPA. His counting stats were fine but not for an air raid QB.

and I can counter that with the fact that Cal graduated all the key WR's the year before, and Webb was throwing to a Junior, Soph, and Freshman. I can also point out that he was starting at Texas Tech even though they had MAyfield and Mahommes on the roster, and got MVP of the Holiday Bowl.
I'm not going to get into a circular argument here. I get it, for whatever reason some here don't like the guy. Maybe it has to do that some are still miffed about passing on Darnold, maybe simply because he's a 3rd rd pick and people don't believe any lower pick can do it. My Personal Opinion, and its my opinion, is that he has everything you need at QB. Can he put it together, because we know that playing the NFL takes more than just talent, only time will tell. However i'm rooting for the guy. If he can play, then we will be a much better team and we will have made the right decision in the 2018 draft. As a Giants fan thats what I want.

1. Mayfield and mahonmes were never on the team together. Mahommes was a true freshman the year after mayfield transferred.
2 he never started over mayfield. Mayfield transferred before the bowl game.
3. In fact Webb was the true freshman on scholarship but was beat out by mayfield even though he was a walk on. The only time Webb started over mayfield was when mayfield was hurt... and mayfield came back and took the job back. He transferred after the last regular season game because he wasn’t promised a scholarship.
4. Cal returned 4 starting OL and their top 3 RBs when Webb came. The cupboard was hardly bare.
is an unknown with a great work ethic and excellent arm strength. 60-65% of his completions were within 10 yards of the LOS. He also didn't play under center. Can he learn how to do so and make reads and throws he'll have to in an NFL offense? Nobody knows. His work ethic and natural arm strength give him a chance, but as someone else said, he lasted until the third round in a draft that wasn't strong at QB. I supported the Webb pick because of his work ethic and arm strength, and also because nobody thought the Giants would be in a position to draft Darnold, Rosen, or Allen this year. But he's still a third round pick.
Lauletta is also an unknown. Aside from being a rookie, his arm may not be strong enough to challenge NFL CBs, especially on deep outs and outside the hashmarks. Lauletta was also everybody's "sleeper" QB, especially after the Senior Bowl. But he still lasted until the fourth round.
My guess is neither is the long term successor to Eli, but I give Webb a slightly greater chance because of his arm strength.
He wasn't ready to take a snap late least year and now hes' ready to take over.
That was the decision of a guy named Ben McAdoo.
Webb has even mentioned himself that he would have liked to play but probably wasn’t ready. He said he learned a shit ton sitting and learning from Eli.

The article said that Webb was told by the Giants that he was only hoing to redshirt last year. He also said that McAdoo told him he wanted Webb to start or at least play the final 3 games of the year. But he was fired before that so that plan was nixxed.
I actually thought the article was kind of a fluff piece to b3 honest. I like that he seems to have a ton of confidence with regards to his arm and work ehtic, but it was a lot of shit I really dont care about too. The s3ction about Eli pantsing Webb was funny tho.
who works as hard as he does at each aspect of the game. That is the type of attitude that you want in your QB. Love that work ethic. It will carry you far.
If you like Eli Manning you're going to LOVE Davis Webb.
(for all the good and bad reasons)
I get tired of hearing about how hard Davis Webb works. It's like, then why aren't you a better quarterback? Why aren't you starting for a team in the NFL yet?
I think Davis Webb's upside is limited.
Nice article but how do you write an entire article Â
about the Giants QB situation & not mention Lauletta at all? It's a great up close & personal with Davis Webb piece but doesn't ask Webb for his reaction to the Giants drafting Lauletta & the competition both will have in camp & going forward. Makes the article feel incomplete.
He wasn't ready to take a snap late least year and now hes' ready to take over.
That was the decision of a guy named Ben McAdoo.
To be fair, that was the decision of Spags which should've been overridden by ownership. Not playing him at the end of last year was idiotic.
At that it was almost a lost cause. What was idiotic was that, including the summer, he never took more than a few snaps a practice and most days it was none.
"Friday is reserved exclusively for Kings of Leon, his favorite band." Â
successor. Especially with Shurmur and Shula here.
His biggest obstacle seems to be learning to play under center. There are plenty of QB's that have overcome that and Webb can do it because he understands football. The concepts come easy to him. He seems like a very cerebral person who has studied the game literally since he was 4 years old according to some reports. Does that mean he's going to be the next Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers? Absolutely not. But he should be a guy you can win with.
As far as his attitude - I like it and I'm sure his teammates do as well. He's intense. He's confident in his ability and he knows he can make all the throws. There's nothing wrong with that. Its not as if he's out running from the cops, getting drunk, or cupping his crotch. This is the kind of "cockiness" you want in a QB, as opposed to guys like Baker Mayfield who are over the top.
His eagerness to throw it deep is absolutely something he is going to have to learn to control. He's said since college that his arm is his biggest strength and he loves to use it. He's got a bit of that Brett Favre gun-slinger mentality in him, where if his team is down - he will take risks and try to make a play instead of being safe.
He needs to work on his decision-making and he needs to get better with his footwork. Overall though, in my opinion, he's got as good of a shot as anyone at being a good starter. And as I mentioned earlier, a plus for him is that he's learning under coaches that know how to get the best out of their players. He's in the perfect situation right now.
Has there ever been a backup QB who never played Â
And everyone is saying that Eli has one or two more years left...................
What if Eli (like his brother Peyton) has a career year at 37 (in 2018)?
Are many of you going to say that he is done after the two-year contract is over.
This may very well be Eli's best year upcoming. And if it is, Eli WILL DECIDE when he is ready to hang up the cleats! And John Mara will support him!
It could be four or even more years!!!!
Hey, I'm not the biggest of Eli fans. However, I'm very impressed so far with what I've heard about Shurmur and about the potential for this offense in 2018.
Remember, Shurmur took a horrible (in 2016 with the Rams), journeyman QB, Case Keenum, and helped mold him into a stud last year. I'm sure that our offense around Eli this year can compete favorably with the offense surrounding Keenum last year!
If so, we may not see the end of Eli's Giants' career for awhile longer than expected.
There's nothing in the last five years of games he's played to suggest that's likely. Even before you consider that we have no idea how this offensive line is going to function next year.

Just because people think Webb can be Eli's successor doesn't mean they are trying to push Eli out the door.
The levels of sensitivity some reach with regards to Eli is ridiculous sometimes.
The picture up above with the "F*ck it I'm going deep fan club" mentions unleashing the dragon. I wonder if that is where Eli's nickname of "Dragon" for him came from?
Let's hope Davis Webb is not the next Rex Grossman.

There is a level of sensitivity being reached in this thread, but this is one of those where the joke falls on you.
Who is being insensitive to Eli? Did the person you even quote say anything in regards to Eli other than he might be able to play a few more years than some may expect? Thats insensitive/?
Webb has a chance to be a starting NFL QB in this league. Absolutely. And every Giants fan hopes it happens.
Hell, as a fan, I hope every current Giants player makes it to the HOF one day. That dream is about as realistic as all the stupid talk of Webb being the next Giants QB to hoist a Lombardi.
But there is zero evidence to suggest he has any better chance than any other QB drafted in the 3rd round. His odds of ever being Eli Manning's long term replacement as the Giants starting QB is minuscule.

No one is being "insensitive" towards Eli. Thats the exact opposite of what I said.
There is absolutely an underlying sensitivity with some posters where, mentioning his successor triggers their Eli defenses and they feel the need to point out how many years he still has left and how awesome he still is.
Because if we talk about someone succeeding him, we must also be saying he's washed up and ready to retire.
Also interesting that one labelled as the biggest "Eli apologist" on the board was the one to reply to my post. Hit a nerve?
Webb says and does everything right. The only question will be Â
Also interesting that one labelled as the biggest "Eli apologist" on the board was the one to reply to my post. Hit a nerve?
yeah, you are making shit up based on a narrative. No one said anything that affects Eli other than the fact he may play longer than some thought. Your horseshit response was unnecessary and the sensitivity towards Eli is just a ridiculous claim that is made for no reason on this forum now.
Questioning whether or not Webb is the future has NOTHING to do with Eli, but yet you made it to be. Great job.
Oh and by the way, before you make anymore outrageous claims - I was a HUGE proponent of drafting a QB number 2. So the Eli predecessor claim you want to make would be false once again.
And I really hope that Eli's successor is already on the team in that QB room, whether it's Lauletta or Webb. That would be the best case scenario.
Agree 100%. As a Giants fan, if either guy can be the next starting AB for multi-years its a huge win for the team. That means we have our future QB and Barkley too. I see no reason to root against either guy. Also, rooting for both QB's has nothing to do with Eli. His time is coming, as is all of ours and every player in the NFL. This all about what happens after. We have two fairly highly thought of guys who are being given the chance..
confident and a student of the game. hopefully he will get a lot of action in the preseason.
and kudos to Eli for his mentorship while Big Ben, Brady and Flacco take a cooler approach to their protégés.

i saw that purely by coincidence... i'm willing to bet this is what they are referring too.. especially because he likes to go deep

I also agree. Britt is definitely the biggest Eli apologist.

Did his 2014 and 2015 season get erased or something? Did they not happen?
Sure they happened, but he specifically cited 'best season'. His best season was 2011. Do you see him putting up 4900 yards and averaging 300 yards per game on 61% completions? Because that's what he'd have to do for this prediction.
How long do the Giants allow for Webb or Lauletta to develop and flop before deciding they need to go all in on a first round qb- which will likely require parting with at least 2 first round picks (because the rest of the team isn't going to be bad enough for another 3 win season)? It's a fair assumption that the Giants next true franchise qb isn't on the roster yet. If the Stanford qb continues to develop, he seems like a qb the Giants would trade multiple first rounders to obtain.
If the Giants are wrong about Webb and Lauletta, they could be in the unenviable position of 7-9/8-8 every season. Only time will tell.

Hopefully its not combined with 24 interceptions and 6 lost fumbles...
You know 20 of them won’t be his fault. Haha
Yes, I look forward to the excuses...pardon me, explanations from you all on why
Come on admit it. You chuckled on my response. And you should be happy to know that I already got 14 excu...planations on why it isn’t his fault. I will not use any repeat reasons.

I do find it unusual that some here that wanted no part of three highly rated quarterbacks in the draft are now big on Webb and Lauletta.
Not sure if the optimism is based on sound reasoning or the reality of life after Eli is beginning to sink in.
In any even; Hope all the anti quarterback guys are right, and I was wrong.
His YPA was one of the worst in college and that’s coming from an offense that is suppose to have a high YPA. His counting stats were fine but not for an air raid QB.

No? Then shut up. Dave Te, professional scout had Lauletta as a 2nd rounder. Stop with stupid posts. Do a little research.

Explain how Lauletta was a reach.
It'll probably be as football savvy as your insight into OL pass pro technique.

Good athleticism

Ideal mentor in Eli

Whether he does or not, I don't think it will be from a lack of opportunity or effort.

This may very well be Eli's best year upcoming.
There's nothing in the last five years of games he's played to suggest that's likely. Even before you consider that we have no idea how this offensive line is going to function next year.
Yes
The saying "everyone's favorite player is the back up QB" existed long before Eli manning and Davis Webb

Did his 2014 and 2015 season get erased or something? Did they not happen?
What if Eli (like his brother Peyton) has a career year at 37 (in 2018)?
Are many of you going to say that he is done after the two-year contract is over.
This may very well be Eli's best year upcoming. And if it is, Eli WILL DECIDE when he is ready to hang up the cleats! And John Mara will support him!
It could be four or even more years!!!!
Hey, I'm not the biggest of Eli fans. However, I'm very impressed so far with what I've heard about Shurmur and about the potential for this offense in 2018.

Just because people think Webb can be Eli's successor doesn't mean they are trying to push Eli out the door.
The levels of sensitivity some reach with regards to Eli is ridiculous sometimes.

Hit a nerve?

yeah, you are making shit up based on a narrative.
Good athleticism
Good work ethic
Ideal mentor in Eli
Good coaching staff
Whether he does or not, I don't think it will be from a lack of opportunity or effort.
I agree 100% and this holds true as well for Lauletta.
Show us some good pre-season tape to give us hope.
and kudos to Eli for his mentorship while Big Ben, Brady and Flacco take a cooler approach to their protégés.

I can't begin to tell you how that isn't interesting at all...
Let's hope Davis Webb is not the next Rex Grossman.
i saw that purely by coincidence... i'm willing to bet this is what they are referring too.. especially because he likes to go deep

And I really hope that Eli's successor is already on the team in that QB room, whether it's Lauletta or Webb. That would be the best case scenario.

I also agree. Britt is definitely the biggest Eli apologist.

Sure they happened, but he specifically cited 'best season'. His best season was 2011. Do you see him putting up 4900 yards and averaging 300 yards per game on 61% completions? Because that's what he'd have to do for this prediction.
If the Giants are wrong about Webb and Lauletta, they could be in the unenviable position of 7-9/8-8 every season. Only time will tell.
You heard it here first.
In today's NFL, that's fairly pedestrian. No need for the shrine.

Hopefully its not combined with 24 interceptions and 6 lost fumbles...

Yes, I look forward to the excuses...pardon me, explanations from you all on why

Maybe you should tell us how long?

Come on admit it. You chuckled on my response. And you should be happy to know that I already got 14 excu...planations on why it isn’t his fault. I will not use any repeat reasons.
Just trying to bring some ying to the yang.
Just want to make sure you bring it correctly on the next defend-Eli thread :-)
