This little gem comes from KWALL jr. 11 year old draftnik. Although he's a Steeler fan he threw out this line on the way to school today.
So is it true?
In terms of 10, 20, and 40 splits, vertical and 3 cone? I couldn't think of anything that matches this trio.
Can you? Has there ever been a team with more explosive speed at these 3 positions?
I will say that he proved he can still play at a high level. Am not going to shy away from given props when they are earned. But I wont be given out passes
No one is asking for passes, and if Eli plays poorly with this talent around him, I think even his most ardent defenders will agree it is time. It isn't crazy to think that his play over the past 2 seasons was due largely to a lack of support.
Quote:
I can see the following:
OBJ 100 - 1400 - 8 TD
Shepard 80 - 1050 - 6 TD
Engram 75 - 1000 - 8 TD
Saquon 75- 700 - 3 TD receiving, 250- 1300 - 10 TD
If this happened, that means Eli had a very good year and we were moving the ball on most anyone we faced.
In this universe, just how many passes per game does Eli throw? Because you are projecting 330 receptions by these four players alone. That's about 21 receptions per game, which would imply (based on Eli's historical completion rate of 60%) 35 passes per game just to these four guys.
That's a little high, but how many passes do you think the *other* WRs/TEs/RBs are going to catch? 50 would be a stretch, IMO with Ellison and Stewart the bulk of those. 21*16 = 336 and Eli's averaged 374 completions per season the last 4 years.

Hahahahaha...you and these predictions of yours. That's 4150 yards passing to only 3 players. A very good year indeed. Jesus.
4150 yards to 4 players. I think his yards/rec are a little high for both Shepard and Engram, but probably a little low for Barkley.
Quite optimistic on Barkley's reception total too.
Also, that's only 25 passing TDs from Eli, which seems quite low given the yardage output. And Beckham is scoring double digit TDs if healthy and catching 100 balls.
I have no idea if your son is correct or not. There have been many, many, explosive athletes drafted and it seems possible that some team at some point had three prospects at the positions with equal or better measurables. Those prospects rarely were expected to contribute right away, and even if so, they were likely forgettable.
What would make him more likely correct would be to qualify the statement by saying the most explosive trio of expected starters in NFL history. This would eliminate the gym rats and athletic freaks teams are known to take fliers on, those guys whose numbers are equally impressive but were not top production guys in either college or the NFL.
I am sure you are including me and Britt in this as we are vocal supporters. FWIW, both him and I were in big favor of drafting a Qb at 2 in this draft.
Desean Jackson/Jordan Reed/Chris Thompson
Chris Johnson/Randy Moss/Jared Cook
Did you not see the dirty dancing video and that footwork? Its assume that he does!
Reggie Bush
Jimmy Graham
Robert Meachem.
Now as far as talent, we know NYG trio blows them out of the water, but atheltic wise - those guys explosiveness was very impressive.
Kelce and Hill are certainly explosive. Hunt is a tough runner but not very explosive. 4.6+ doesn't measure up to Barkley.
Reed was quick out of breaks, very good agility, and had enough speed. Lofton, even at his age on the Bills, had over 1000 yards and 8 TDs in 15 games on just 50 something catches in 1991...he was still the deep threat and had a lot of speed despite him being old for the position. That same season Reed had over 1100 yards and 10 TDs, and Thurman Thomas had 2038 yards from scrimmage and 12 scores. That trio that year had over 4100 yards combined and 30 TDs. I don't care if they are the best or most explosive or whatever in NFL history, but they certainly deserve to be mentioned in the conversation, especially considering the era they played in.
I thought about it for a while and can't think of anybody matching it.
Engram is one of the fastest TEs ever so that eliminates a lot of options.
This one is close:
Reggie Bush
Jimmy Graham
Robert Meachem
Bush and Meachem could run with anybody. I see Engram > Graham in terms of speed and explosion.
While you can find 2 WRs to match Engram and Beckham, we were trying to come up with a RB, TE, WR trio. Not RB, WR, WR.
Dep has the best call with the 3 from the Saints. I didn't think of them. They are right there with our group.
Looked it up (40 times only), Ram trio will be hard to top:
Faulk - 4.35
Holt - 4.38
Bruce - 4.53
Holt and Bruce were slower at combine then those numbers.
It should be TE, WR, RB.
Many WR pairs faster than Holt/Bruce
Cooks was 0.8 seconds slower in the 40, but better vertical and more reps than Engram.
Love the Barkley pick, but he's eating CJ2K's dust.
At best, Moss vs Beckham is a push. Beckham quicker in/out of cuts, but Moss's deep speed (at combine) blows him away.
You’re a wad
So the numbers reflect that all world toughness moreso than quicks- explosiveness.
Best guess - our new coach, great choice of coach IMO , won't use that sort of style, looking instead to get various players unique opportunities.
Cooks should be Jared Cook and yes, for half a season in TN.

In 1991 Thurman Thomas ran the ball 288 times at 4.9 YPC. He also threw in over 600 yards receiving on 60 catches. While this isn't about production, Thurman Thomas was one of the best athletes at his position of his time. He was tremendously explosive. He was both quick and fast with breakaway speed. Levy did run him a ton, and overall I think that hurt his YPC numbers in some years, but he could take it to the house with the best of them.
I'm not going to say most explosive, but a pretty awesome trio was Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, and Rod Smith. '97-'98 Broncos.
Back in 2008-2009, the 49ers had Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, and Josh Morgan. Josh Morgan fizzled out, but he was definitely an athlete. 4.46 40, and a ridiculous 40.5 inch vert at his pro day. Michael Crabtree was also on that team, but he wasn't and isn't a super-athlete in my estimation. Vernon Davis certainly was/is. Frank Gore didn't have the tremendous speed, but he was pretty quick and fast enough in his prime.
Greg Olsen, Christian McCaffrey, and Curtis Samuel last year. Yeah, Olsen probably isn't quite the athlete he used to be, but he ran a 4.51 and has vert jumped nearly 38 inches. Curtis Samuel obviously could fly but only made 4 starts in an injury-marred season, and McCaffrey is a stellar athlete himself.
The trio of Olsen, Steve Smith, and DeAngelo Williams was pretty good.
But from a pure athletic explosion standpoint, I do think Barkley, OBJ, and Engram is probably the best ever, if OBJ is fully recovered. I would love to see them all at their athletic best play together, it will be pretty fun to watch as long as Eli performs well.
Chris Johnson and Cooks were dynamic but no WR there. Johnson has the edge on everybody. Engram is more explosive then Cooks and already a tougher matchup than Cooks.
