Looks like Paul Perkins is still hanging around

FranknWeezer : 6/6/2018 4:54 pm
I understand he was waived/cut and I suppose reverted back to us as unclaimed. I believe that means we now hang onto him while an injury settlement is being worked out, so he can be released free and clear. Correct?

If that's the case, what's he doing on the practice field in a (not red/non-contact) jersey? Assuming he's not practicing, he's still exposed to getting knocked around, etc. Also, if there's not an expectation he's going to be back, are we training him for the benefit of another team?

Just curious, as none of this is a huge deal. Having him around, on the field, in his jersey during practice doesn't seem like something the TC regime would have done, though.

The picture is

Photoshopped.
well he has

no helmet on...good sign not to hit him

and he is photoshopped
Maybe he's like Kramer in Seinfled

who just kept showing up to the job he didn't really have.

Shurmur is going to have to take him aside and say "Paul this is hard on me, but I'm going to have to let you go"

And Perkins will say "But I don't even really work here"

And Shurmur will say "that's what makes this so hard"

After passing through

waivers, he was put on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List so he is still technically part of the team. I suppose he is being encouraged to come to the OTAs and could still possibly be on the active roster when healthy.
Perkins had a pretty good rookie year and then a sophomore

slump - both behind a bad offensive line. Why not see what he has to offer when healthy behind a better ol?

I don't have a problem with that at all. If that's the case, though, would've been nice for the media to explain he's still a possibility with NYG, rather than just say he passed through waivers and an injury settlement was in the offing. I guess that's why they pay us here on BBI the big bucks to get to the bottom of things.

Thanks all, even the photoshop conspiracy theorists. Ha.

posted above, he's on IR. He was placed there after passing through waivers. Shurmur said they needed the roster spot (and this is a 6-month injury)
I don’t know why this is not understood

This was made pretty clear at the time it happened.

How much clearer could I be, Ivan? When is the last time you saw a player pass through waivers, stick around, put on his old jersey and get out on the field with guys who are practicing, while we are being told an injury settlement is being worked out?

I've never seen any mention of an injury settlement. It happens, but I don't recall it being speculated in this case.

He was placed on the NFI Injury List.

I think it was speculated on here and some took it as gospel.

Eric, FYI, it was mentioned by Ralph V. and possibly others:

Quote:
Ironically, Perkins' pectoral injury -- which he suffered before the Giants' offseason workout program began -- bought him some time. He was waived/injured, which means if he clears waivers he will revert back to the Giants' injured reserve list. The reality, though, is he's no longer part of their future and likely headed to an injury settlement somewhere down the road.

That's quite a fall for the running back who was once thought to be the Giants' future at that position. Now he may not have an NFL future at all.

So my point was, if he’s “no longer part of their future,” what’s he doing I the practice field in a jersey? Just strikes me as weird and something the media could’ve done a better job clarifying. That’s all.
Vacchiano mentions injury settlement for Perkins - ( New Window )
It's simple

"likely headed to an injury settlement somewhere down the road." is speculation, not fact.

The following statement "That's quite a fall for the running back " is based on that speculation.

If he is on injured reserve he is still technically part of the team.
No need to cut him. He's on IR and still a kid
