NFT: Is there a better drink out there than GoLytely?

Steve L : 6/6/2018 8:21 pm
Mmmmm. So delish. And it makes you feel so damn good. Love the prep

off too far...
I didn't mind the Miralax Prep for my last one.

But I still remember my first time when Fleet Phospho Soda was used. It still induces a gag reflex with just the thought.

I’ve had Crohns Disease for 30 years. I’ve never done the miralax prep. Always the gallon laxative. Up until about three years ago, you had to drink the entire gallon in one sitting. Now they split it up. Half night before. Half morning of. Still awful.
I knew you had Crohns, but didn't want to bring up the reason

for you needing the prep as some on the board might not have been aware of your situation. The Miralax is mixed among 2 64 oz. of Gatorade. Easy to get down. With your 30 years of unfortunate experience, certainly you had to do the Fleet Phospho Soda. It isn't recommended anymore as it can cause kidney problems and it has been pulled from shelves, but you can still find it online. Also, the Magnesium Citrate was the 2nd worst in gag reflex.

Time I did the Miralax added to lemon Gatorade. Last time I had to go the golyte way. I added lemonade mix to my glass every time I had to drink a glass fill. I think no it was every 30 minutes or 15. Don't remember. The lady couple of glass i almost st puked.
Surprised they haven’t switched you to Suprep
Jim in Fairfax : 6/6/2018 9:18 pm : link
Most GIs have switched as it’s been determined to be more effective, probably because people are better able to follow the program.

It’s a split dose of 16 oz each, followed by 32 oz of water. So it’s still a lot to consume (16 oz less), but the water goes down a lot easier.
At this time last night,

I was in the process of taking the Suprep. It is MUCH better than the GoLightly - what a ridiculously sarcastic name! I took one dose at 9pm and one at 3am. I works very fast. Kind of a berry like taste. Much more palatable than the GoLightly.

The fact there is a second dose
pjcas18 : 6/7/2018 7:45 am : link
required of suprep is simply to torture the patients.

After the first dose within a short period everything I'd eaten ever in my entire life was evacuated from my body and then items it seemed that weren't even supposed to leave my body soon followed.

I'm pretty sure my colon was devoid of any and all foreign objects. as were my intestines, stomach and all the other pipes down there.

then 6 hours later another dose?

the doctor could have eaten off my colon it was so clean. My colon was cleaner than a Disney park. I feel like the second dose was a big FU to patients just to let them know that even though medicine has improved this process from what it once was (so I've heard) they're still powerful enough to mess with you.

And by the time I had the colonoscopy I had gone around 48 hours without eating or drinking anything. I was ravenous like Dwight Shrute in the office episode after he had sex.

I did suprep and thought it wasnt bad. I also felt like 10 pounds lighter, haha. Good cleanse.
not sure if GoLytely has changed
ColHowPepper : 6/7/2018 1:08 pm : link
its formulation in the past 20 years, but I remember prepping, in the office at ~ 8 at night (had to work late); it was a gallon or 1/2 gallon container as I recall, maybe had to be diluted. After about ten of the 8oz cups, just the smell of the liquid, let alone downing it, made me nauseous, just awful...torture was that prep.
Subsequent procedures were with a different product, thank god.

After I was done (to a point where the urge was not there) ... what was coming out was clear liquid. It literally looked like water (not even urine) - Plain water.

So I said to myself -

"I am not drinking anymore of that stuff. There is nothing left to evacuate"

If they were disappointed the next day they said nothing either verbally, in tone, or through body language. They showed me my pictures - looked like it was cleaned with a power washer. Spotless.

I am also not sure why they make you drink all that stuff. Maybe it is the same dose for all sizes ...? I only weigh about 170 and, maybe a person who weighs 350 lbs needs more and they decided 1 size will fit all? IDK.

because if you aren't clean after halfassing the prep, your doctor will make you do it again! So why not make sure you clean it out in the first attempt

Okay Spike - that is a good point and I can't imagine being sent home and having to do it again on another day (taking another day off and arranging for a ride etc ...) but, I am telling you - when I say clear as water - multiple times. I am not exaggerating.

But, you raise a good point. Don't want to get sent home for sure.
I definitely needed both doses
Jim in Fairfax : 6/7/2018 9:30 pm : link
The first one did most of the job, but I wasn’t blowing clear until I was into the second.

I suspect that this was because the low fiber diet they had me on leading up to the prep had me bottled up but good. Took awhile for the fireworks to start after the first dose.
