Anyone have this? the question i have is:
I plan on putting it in an area where i have shitty wifi. ADT plans to install some new system and will need a port to access the internet.
If they wanted to, could ADT just connect to the google wifi with a cable and get internet like that? or is the google wifi access point just wifi?

I think he's fine as the each Google WiFi point has 2 Ethernet ports. ADT only requires one hard connection.
DON’T use a router. Just a plain switch.

If you do this, ADT could hook into any LAN port on any of the 3 google wifi points..
I have Eero which I love... I have comcast security wirless router connected to the LAN port of my base unit and my Insteon hub connected to the LAN port of another of my units.

wirelessly, you'd need an ethernet bridge, similar to the one below. https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Wireless-AC1200-Bridge-TEW-800MB/dp/B00BKFYIP2 - ( New Window )

One of the ports is a WAN port — you need to plug your cable into this port. There is only one outgoing port. And you don’t need a bridge — a basic switch is fine

Thanks, should've read the details instead of just looking at the pics! Still has at least 2 ports total (1 per AP) between the 2+ access points. Can always add a switch later on.
Got the google mesh because the house is spread out and wifi coverage was spotty in parts. Works very well.
In our other place we have Portal mesh wifi and that works well too. Mesh wifi is a good way to go.

That’s an insecure setup. Anything plugged into the switch is unprotected. The modem should be plugged into the WAN port of the Google WiFi, then the switch into the LAN port of the Google WiFi. That puts a secure router between everything else.

You're right - haven't used those Google APs much, forgot they had a backhaul port.

as stated previously, we have the cable modem going into a small switch and then the security wifi and the google wifi are both plugged into that. Works great.

Well, sure. But the only two things plugged into the switch are the Google Wifi and the security company's wifi.

Which exposes your security system to hackers. Not very secure.
If you're only getting the Google Wifi setup to add this ADT device, it's overkill. You're better off with a cheaper bridge.
If you want to extend your WiFi coverage, then go with the Google solution, which will also get you some extra ports.
I have three of them (main level, upstairs bedroom and downstairs basement). The main one that plugs into the modem has an extra Ethernet port and the other two satellite ones also has an Ethernet port.
Much better product than the power line adapter or any of the cheap bridges and/or range extenders that I've tried.

all my ports are taken up. The google wifi access point in my living room would be a prime location for the adt system if the port on the google wifi can be connected to for another device.

ok so i can use the port on the google wifi spot for the ADT system correct?
yeah my wifi in the house can get fucked up as my fios gigabit router is in the basement and the access point is in the attic. The 1st floor and second floor can get tricky
