Exactly beetlejuice now, he's still a big dude but he's clearly not on an NFL weight regimen anymore, that is a tough thing to maintain and the weight will drop off quickly.

I dunno, this is a clip of him teaching at browns camp. He's got runner's legs now. It's crazy.

or along side pro bodybuilders in the 80's. It was in the bodybuilding mecca of the world, SoCal.
I knew many, many of them that stopped taking PEDs either temp. or for good. In every case, that person looked like they had the air let out of them.
When I met Arnold's best pal, Franco Columbu ( Mr. Olympia winner) , he had retired from bodybuilding and become a chiropractor. He was hardly bigger than me.
Even if it's not juice or HGH, the diets they need just to get there and then maintain are just insane. We're talking 8k-10+ calories per day, high protein and high carb. It involves force feeding and maybe a little extra help. It's not healthy longterm which these guys are well aware of now, which is good. The big guys get much less credit than they deserve in terms of being educated about diet and nutrition, but they're probably the ones that know the most because of what is involved in getting to their play weight. For those reasons I'm never shocked when these guys shed weight like crazy after their careers.
nobody is saying people can't lose weight by dieting.
But if you think that's the main reason why linemen are losing that weight - you're deluding yourselves.
It isn't just the weight that comes off, but the bloated look that comes from using PED's.
I used to work out next to the great Jack Lambert. That guy was in top shape and POWERFUL! I could tell he was NOT using PEDs. He never had that puffy or over vascular look.

When you really think about what some of these guys must do to maintain that kind of body, it's kind of ugly. Being forced to eat like that is some kind of biblical punishment.

iNo one is forcing them to be a pro football lineman
Yup and the pressure to start stacking the calories starts at 15-16 yrs old now that it's standard for starting Power 5 OL to be 300+. It's kind of crazy. By the time they hit Joe Thomas' age they've been studying nutrition and watching their diet for two decades, they know how to snap it back.

Pro bodybuilders are the worst. They not only play with steroid cocktails & hGH, they also inject insulin at precise times.

Obviously. That still doesn't mean it's not grotesque to basically have a conveyor belt of food running into your mouth.

You know as well as I do what roids and HGH do to the body. All that water retention just flat out stops when you stop taking it, you won't convince people otherwise. I did steroids for about 3 months in my 20s, I was a monster then I didn't like how they made me feel (imagine that i was mean) and I dropped about 25lbs in about a month. The water retention is ridiculous w/ these drugs and when you stop you shrink, period.
expect any of them to say they lost the weight because they stopped taking roids?
The only ex-linemen I personally know said they had to take PED's to stay competitive. I know a DB who swears he never took anything, and I know a PK who said the same, but he said I'd be surprised to know that there are a fair number of punters and kickers who do use.
I always thought the obvious example of this was Alan Faneca Â

My GUESS is that Weatherford was muscular through hard work in the Gym, but what do I know?
but if you think about it, losing he weight isnt all that hard for pro athletes. They’ve been spending their entire careers maintaining weight or bulking up, spending hours per day in the gym. Take that same time, spending it on cardio and lower weight training, coupled with a much smaller caloric intake, and you get massive weight loss very quickly.
I’m not as taken aback by the big weight changes as some of you are, seems fairly normal to me.
I was wondering what Gettleman was talking about when he said Hernandez was a natural 330 pounder or something like that.
What does that really mean?
Well, looking at these guys that shrunk maybe they were not natural 300 pounders. They required effort to keep the weight up where the coaches wanted it to be.

How were most of the biogenesis guys never caught in a test? It seems pretty clear that whether it's through masking agents or simply finding a new drug combo that's not tested for yet, it's not that hard for guys to evade detection.
a lot it came to ahead with blood tests in the CBA Â
Weatherford is legitimately a workout addict, but he's so completely ripped that I'm sure he does have to be taking something, even if it's not something illegal.
I met a former NYG Olineman at one of the Giants' draft parties Â
back when this player was still playing for the Giants. At the time I weighed 280lbs and he was only around 240 or 250. I looked at him and mentioned it to him and he said he usually drops around 60 or 70 pounds in the offseason and then puts it all back on leading up to training camp. I have the picture with him somewhere, but you can see a huge difference between the offseason and his playing weight
I dunno, this is a clip of him teaching at browns camp. He's got runner's legs now. It's crazy.

to say it can't be done with proper nutrion is BS

if it was steroids, how was it never detected?
Let's just say linemen aren't put under a whole lot of scrutiny when it comes to testing.
I'll raise you Matt Birk.
But if you think that's the main reason why linemen are losing that weight - you're deluding yourselves.

Michael Phelps claimed he needed about 12,000 calories a day when he was training.

He said not having to eat like that, doing all the weight lifting training for the league, weight just came off

Pretty sure it wasn't all the running...

An OL well over six foot can pack a lot of extra weight on his frame.

Agree with you on Weatherford.

He's so skinny I didn't even recognize him when I saw him recently.
