It's easy to envision a scenario where Webb plays well in the preseason and at the end of some blowout games and suddenly the Giants are getting quiet trade interest in him because they also have rookie Kyle Lauletta waiting in the wings. It's happened with Jimmy Garoppolo, A.J. McCarron and others in the past.

If this is how is plays out they'd be crazy to trade him
The Eagles are masters at trading players and getting a good return

especially QBs.
Wait
dep026 : 6/8/2018 10:03 am : link
so Webb would create a controversy on teams that have bad QBs?

That's not really a glowing report haha.
Giants aren't trading Webb

Just a stupid comment in that article.
Eli is not 30 anymore.
Is there more to it?

For some reason, I only get the first 2 paragraphs of these linked nj.com articles.

He's basically saying that Webb looks ready to play (who knows until the bullets start firing though), and in the writers opinion is better than some QB's starting in the NFL now. So this means some other teams may come calling, since its likely Webb gets no playing time unless Eli gets hurt.
Webb's going to play
mittenedman : 6/8/2018 10:54 am : link
with the 1's a lot during preseason and I expect him to look very good.

That said, I also expect the Giants to have zero interest in trading him. Even for a 1st round pick, if he looks like the goods, you have to keep him.

That I saw and the Hunter Sharp thought as well. Were the other 10 thoughts interesting?
Mentions Rosas
dep026 : 6/8/2018 11:07 am : link
Hill, flowers at RT, battle for center job, Riley and another guy making noise defensively, battle for backup RB....matchups on offense
The Webb thought is nonsense

2 months ago, most people were saying that the Giants should draft a QB with the 1st round pick. Now somebody is going to be offering something of significant value for Webb (we invested a 3rd round pick).

Also could you imagine if Webb gets traded hypothetically and plays well somewhere else. Lauletta (or a high draft pick) would not only have to replace a legend but also be compared to a successful Webb... DISASTER.

We have 2 young quarterbacks that appear to have great work ethic although a different skill set. They get to learn behind a quarterback who is known for his professionalism. We are in a good position to hopefully have one of them succeed when the time comes.

I do think this is playing out that Webb will be #2 this year which is what I had always believed.

^This. Nobody knows anything about Webb. But if the Giants are even 10% sure he could be the long term successor to Manning, then they won't trade him, and certainly not because they have Lauletta "waiting in the wings."
The Giants have a HC and OC with experience developing QBs
UberAlias : 6/8/2018 11:33 am : link
They have two young drafted QBs on the roster and a 37 year old QB with only so many years left. They are going to develop the young QBs, but not for the purpose of trading them away to solve someone else's QB situation.
Anybody that says a QB looks ready to play in May and June should be
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/8/2018 12:32 pm : link
Dismissed. Looks ready to play based on low-intensity non-contact OTAs featuring some veterans who decide to show up and guys who may be bagging groceries in three months. "Looks ready to play".
I really wanted the Giants
joeinpa : 6/8/2018 2:36 pm : link
To draft a quarterback because I wanted to be excited about the next era.

Would be great if Webb is that guy.
Define "bad" starting QBs

I think the notion of possibly trading Webb next year...
Big Blue Blogger : 6/9/2018 12:19 pm : link
...is predicated on Eli playing well this season and cementing his position as the starter for 2019. Then you face the prospect of Webb getting three years into his rookie contract and still being the backup, sandwiched between Manning and Lauletta. So it's conceivable that Webb could be worth more to another team, as a candidate to start, than he is to the Giants as one of two talented, unproven backups.

One common counterargument is that the Giants could tag Webb after four years if he looks like a potential star, or let him walk for a comp pick if he doesn't. But it's not that simple. The tag for QBs is exorbitant, and it's just a band-aid; ask a Redskin fan how that approach worked out for them with Kirk Cousins. (Answer: 15 wins, 16 losses, 1 tie, and Alex Smith at QB in 2018, minus Kendall Fuller and a third-round pick). Meanwhile, comp selections - which top out around #97 in the best case - can be erased by the team's own signings.

Not saying a trade is likely, just that there are scenarios where such a deal might make sense.
He mentioned AJ Francis

And this will sound like wild ass May in shorts how the f could you know bs, but in the few clips I saw of drills, etc. with the DL he pops off the screen. He's a mountain with quickness he should not have at that size. I've definitely got my eye on him now.
