Hitter was the key word.
It really is funny how advanced analytics can be so confounding to lower levels of analysis. I've heard Cashman say many times that the idea is to get your best batters as many at bats as possible.
If I had to guess they were overlaying statistics saying that younger batters bat for higher averages if they are lower in the order. So in a certain way the higher averages might be proving that point as opposed to bucking traditional stats.
I do think there is another layer though where we haven't gotten to yet where personality factors in to how vulnerable you might be to confidence fluctuations. IE from everything I've seen from Gleyber he would appear to be the type that would not be too affected by the area of the order he bats in but that's just conjecture, don't think the data science is there yet.
If it's Yanks vs. any other team I have no problem thinking of them as ex-Yankees. But when they're announcing Yanks vs. Mets, I can't help thinking of them as ex-Mets pitchers. (I'll bet they also think of themselves as ex-Mets.)

I highly doubt that Cone, owner of 3 Yankees championship rings, thinks of himself primarily as a Met.

I highly doubt you're right. He came of age as a Met. By the time he was a Yank he was a hired gun.

4* lol
I don't know what the Yankees can actually trade that helps them. Andujar and Torres are now part of the team and there is no expectation that they can be replaced by someone else in the system. I also don't think Frazier+Sheffield and others is enough to trade for an impact arm that can reasonably be expected to be better than what we have or can find for much less.

I don't think they'll be able to match up because the Mets will keep their demands ludicrous (especially for NYY) and at a level where it doesn't make sense for the Yanks to pull the trigger.
I think it actually could be a good match in theory - the Yankees have pieces that could help jumpstart the Mets rebuild, but the Mets will play it terribly as usual, keep their asking price well-above what anyone will be willing to give up and then manage to wind up with either an underwhelming package or no trade partner.
I'm not sure that rumor is true, though. I'd need to see it more reliably reported first.

I assume all Yankee fans know that the team isn't trading a 21 yr old position player like Torres, who has a chance to be a star, for anybody. Not saying de Grom isn't worth Torres and more at this stage in their respective careers, just that the Yanks wouldn't do it.
For me, don't even bother asking for Torres or Andujar. I also don't want to trade Frazier. So what can we get with Sheffield, Florial, Abreu, etc.?
I'd call Torres untouchable and I wouldn't want to move Andujar, either.
Yup. I thought this ump was calling a great game until he missed that pitch. Did you see Gardner's reaction on 2nd, throwing his arms straight up like WTF?
I highly doubt you're right. He came of age as a Met. By the time he was a Yank he was a hired gun.
He pitched 7 seasons for the Mets, 6 for the Yankees. Won four titles with the Yankees, zero as a Met. Threw a perfect game as a Yankee. He works for the Yankees, not the Mets. I don't see any reason to think he feels more attachment to the Mets.
Poor Wanger. He was a terrific pitcher before that.
It's June 8th. Why Nevin even thought about that is beyond me.

Couldn’t agree more. Also, there should be a DH for all interleague games. It’s no advantage to either team that way. National league rules (which fucking suck by the way) are an advantage to the National League team because AL pitchers don’t work on hitting or running the bases.
It’s a goddamn joke.

You and I can believe whatever we want, but only Cone can answer this question.

If that's the way you feel, you should be blaming the manager more than the third base coach. Considering that he's letting them swing away, he must not be all that concerned.

should Nevin have sent Tanaka. I would never even let my pitcher swing the bat in an NL park, it's not worth the risk. And then when they get on the bases it would be station to station basically walking.

DH is an advantage to an AL team because the DH is usually a top hitter. In the NL, the DH is a bench player because they can’t afford someone who can’t play the field
If that's an accurate diagnosis, it could've been worse.
Why are we struggling with shitty Jay Bruce? WTF.
