Torres and Andujar are beasts
I'll take those six innings
Eman11 : 6/9/2018 9:10 pm : link
Every time from a rookie #5 starter.

Kid's got fantastic stuff he just needs to keep getting out there every five days.
Andujar
BigBlueShock : 6/9/2018 9:12 pm : link
That’s why some of us laughed when Dan said the Yankees don’t have a premium guy to offer the Mets if Torres isn’t involved, yet he thinks Rodgers and Hiura are centerpieces. Andujar is a stud.

No doubt he is.

I'm not trading either one and breaking this thing up. If it ain't broke.....
Callaway sucks - doesn't he have to pinch run for Gonzalez here?
Eric on Li : 6/9/2018 9:23 pm : link
i'd be lying if i said I was fully aware of the exact met bench right now, but a chance to go ahead late with a single is infinitely higher with anyone running than Gonzalez.

And bitch about your no5 starter not being an ace or that one hole on the entire offensive roster.

Trying being a mets fan. Every pitcher is a no5 starter and the offensive roster only has one player who is a plus.
Good to have Swarzak back
Rob in Rockaway : 6/9/2018 9:34 pm : link
I thought this torture might go to extra innings before the mets inevitably lose.
Callaway is a shit manager
moespree : 6/9/2018 9:34 pm : link
Really. I tried to say it was too early to think that and that he hasn't been given much to work with, all of which is true, but he's not any good with what he does have either. Mistake after mistake and inspires nothing and no one.
How does Callaway
bigbluehoya : 6/9/2018 9:38 pm : link
Factor into this?? He’s got a shit roster and went with his best healthy bullpen piece against the heart of the NYY lineup.

Swarzak made one mistake and paid. He owned the next 2 hitters.
Nice to see Didi
bigbluehoya : 6/9/2018 9:40 pm : link
Break things all the way back down and start focusing on line drive singles.
Is the old Betances back?
dpinzow : 6/9/2018 9:47 pm : link
He was dominant again (he got some favorable breaks with Frazier though)

Yup. Great insight on that. Here's hoping he keeps his focus there.

The HR's will come just like they did in April but hitting line drives is his best approach.
That was an inning of absolute filthyness

Chapman up
bigbluehoya : 6/9/2018 9:56 pm : link
Not really happy that AB’s going to go to Chapman here.

Makes me feel relieved that they evidently didn’t find anything concerning with the incident last night, but Chapman is just too valuable to this team to take anything other than the most cautious route.

That makes the Betances renaissance more important. It's highly likely Chapman will need a rest/DL stint with his tendinitis so Betances might be pressed into a closer role
Where the hell was that second pitch??

This series has been very competitive due to DeGrom and Matz but the Mets are basically throwing a AAA lineup out there

Nah, there’s plenty of major league hitters in their lineup. They just all suck the second they put a Mets uniform on.

Class, lol. They should give Reyes the Willie Randolph treatment.
German seems to have that one rough inning per start
Stu11 : 6/9/2018 10:21 pm : link
But his stuff and #'s are more than good enough to send him out there every 5th day especially as a #5 guy.
42-18
Eman11 : 6/9/2018 10:21 pm : link
.700 ball. 9-1 in their last 10. Gotta love it!

Here's hoping Sevie throws a gem tomorrow night and gets them to 25 over.

It does count as an inning but it's really only 2-3 pitches in that inning that hurts him. Threw the one bad pitch vs the Stros and gave up the 3 run HR, but other than that he shut them down pretty good.

No doubt he keeps his spot and I'd take that kind of a start every time from a #5. Personally, I think he's only going to get better, and not make those couple of mistakes the more he gets out there.
Our lineup is just devastating.
bceagle05 : 6/9/2018 10:34 pm : link
Smoltz is clinging to the high K totals for some reason, but adding Stanton, Gleyber and Miggy to last year’s crew is ridiculous.

Sanchez is having a brutal season too (under .200 batting average) but the rest of the lineup is so good it doesn't matter at least right now

Haha, Smoltz was absolutely obsessed with the strikeouts. He couldn’t focus on the game for a minute because he was too busy talking about how much the Yankees strike out. I wanted to reach my hand through the television and choke him. He made this game tough to watch

Exactly. He kept saying how they'll need more pitching come playoff time but failed to mention how close they got last year without the guys we've added. Those three lengthening the lineup will definitely put more pressure on the pitchers we'll see in October.

Plus if they had home field last year I think they beat the Stros. So if they can get it this year that would be another big advantage over last year.
Andujar is absolutely a keeper
dpinzow : 6/9/2018 10:45 pm : link
When he was called up he couldn't stop hitting doubles. Then he went through a slump where pitchers started to figure him out. He's made some adjustments and is now hitting the cover off the ball again

He’ll get figured out again, and then rage again, and get figured out.

That’s baseball, Suzyn.

For me, the real takeaway is that he seems to have a pretty high floor (.260/.310/.490) with a ridiculous amount of upside if he finds the zone control.

Definite MLB player, full stop. Even for good Top 100 prospects, there’s a solid 25% (or much more) chance that they’re not everyday big leaguers at the end of the day.

I think Andujar is a great asset to get an impact SP. the beauty of it is, I have zero problem keeping him.
Nice to get the series win.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/9/2018 11:47 pm : link
Good to see German settle down after getting hit hard in that first inning. Wasn't so sure he would settle down after that; not exactly the vet like Tanaka is who was able to settle down after giving up that HR in the first inning last night. Good showing for German.

Youre just stupid....and wrong....all the time. And that makes me happy.

German showed tremendous poise and made you eat shit tonight.
Yes.
manh george : 6/10/2018 11:03 am : link
What German did last night was extremely encouraging. To come back that well off of the awful start, and finish with just 5 hits, 9Ks and 0 walks was a really impressive night. He has the three pitches necessary to be a starter--fast, slider, change--and real life on his fastball.

I admit that it puzzled me why Boone seemed to have slotted him in the rotation, but he seems to have answered that. If he can take Montgomery's slot, the whole trade situation gets easier.

Btw, I still wonder if Drury becomes part of a trade package for a starter. He's a major league infielder, and Andujar has him blocked. Hitting .324 with a .917 OPS is too good to just sit at SWB.

my dad last night and we sat 5 rows directly behind home plate. Probably the best seats I've ever sat in for a pro sporting event. I bought the tickets on stubhub below face value yesterday afternoon.

I have to say, the Mets food options are awful in comparison to the Legends Seats at Yankee Stadium. They apparently revamped the "Home Plate Club" or first data club whatever its called this off-season, but it was basically nothing. Just one small room with some sliders, pretzels, popcorn, barely anywhere to even sit. I figured the "all inclusive food" would mean a really nice spread, but it didn't. I was able to take my ticket to any concession stand and get anything besides alcohol for free, but the Mets really dropped the ball on the club areas imo. In legends at Yankee Stadium there are basically two huge restaurants behind home plate and they have absolutely everything right there that you could ever dream of eating. I asked them if they had any seafood last night and they told me to go to a stand out in center field for the catch of the day.

Before the game I got a chicken parm sandwich from a stand out by center field, cant remember the name of it, but they fucking put MAYO on my chicken parm, and my dads. I didnt realize it until we got back into our seats, but that should be against the law.

The in seat wait service options were limited too compared to YS. I felt bad for the girls that were taking orders because they needed about 10 more of them and they were completely overwhelmed.

Citi field is cool, but the premium seating sucks in comparison to other parks. They need to step their game up.

I also met Marlins Man last night. I sat with him for a half inning and he was a really nice guy.

It was perfect weather wise and I like the stadium and the seats were absolutely amazing but I dont know how they sell those seats at the face value they ask for, just not enough value.

I agree and that’s emblematic of how the Mets run everything
Eric on Li : 6/10/2018 4:19 pm : link
And I’m a met fan. I haven’t been there in a while but I used to like the delta seats bc you get similar mediocre club amenities but could get seat service from the better concession options like blue smoke and shake shack. They were just 1 section higher behind home plate and a pretty solid value.
