Seriously Sanchez has to move on down

As long as German can

mostly pitch from the windup, we are in good shape. Once he has to go to the stretch, he is a completely different pitcher.

And Boone needs to be reminded Bird can hit lefties, and took one of the best in the game deep last year in the playoffs.

Oh and Austin sucks right now taboot. I really doubt the occasional game is gonna get him out of his funk. He needs to go to Scranton and play every day there.
That lineup... ouch

Yeah, and people work themselves out of slumps on the bench.

I doubt he's gonna work himself out of it playing a game here and there in the bigs. Keep Toe up and send Austin down so he can play everyday. Much better chance of him getting his shit together there than here.

After seeing the usual bitching and moaning about the lineup
BigBlueShock : 6/9/2018 6:40 pm : link
My picks for players of the game are:

1. Tyler Austin
1a. Gary Sanchez

Haha. I hope you're right and Austin has a great game. I doubt he will but we can hope.

It's really more about me thinking Bird should be playing every day combined with Austin struggling and I don't get why he's in there.
Bird is what, 1-18?
BigBlueShock : 6/9/2018 6:50 pm : link
He’s struggling too and coming off an injury. I have no problem with him easing in to things. He’s not exactly crushing it. And Austin destroys left handed pitching. It’s the reason he’s still on the team
If
mitch300 : 6/9/2018 7:05 pm : link
Austin is not gonna play against lefties, then why is he on the roster. BTW I also think he would be better served playing everyday in Scranton.
Wtf, why is that door open?
Mad Mike : 6/9/2018 7:18 pm : link
Pretty weak by the yankees bullpen buys.

True about coming back from that injury but he's been back a couple of weeks now. Time to see if that foot can handle several games in a row IMO. Plus, he's really their everyday 1B, and the more AB's he gets the sooner he'll get locked in.

Austin was crushing lefties but was is the key word there. Like I said, I hope he breaks out tonight and has a great game. It's really no big deal or bad move by Boone but I'd just rather see Bird in there and think that would've been a better move. JMHO

They may need to trade for a starter tonight.

Jesus...
Sheffield gave up one hit last night, and no earned runs, in six.
Dave in Buffalo : 6/9/2018 7:38 pm : link
I'd rather deal with him working on his control issues, and whatever other rookie growing pains, than have to endure German's frequent shit shows.
I think we should let the Tyler Austin project come to an end...
LarmerTJR : 6/9/2018 7:47 pm : link
He literally adds NOTHING to the team. Zero.
German can definitely use a trip back to Scranton get his stuff right
DennyInDenville : 6/9/2018 7:50 pm : link
He has the mental fortitude to grow from these struggles imo

I would call up Giovanny Gaellegos for a spot start or two for German, and I would give young Sheff a shot at spelling Tanaka for 2-3 starts

Cessa won't be ready util around the ASB I believe. He can be helpful in the pen possibly if he has his act together as well as some spot starts.
German looks settled
DennyInDenville : 6/9/2018 7:52 pm : link
If he gets 5 IP with just the 3 runs he earns his keep (he's staying either way tho probably)
Smoltz
Eman11 : 6/9/2018 8:01 pm : link
Is a pretty good analyst when it comes to what's happening on the field but he needs to lay off playing GM. The Yanks "could be" one of the favorites to win it all if they get a top pitcher? They're already one of the favorites!
I've just got one question...
M.S. : 6/9/2018 8:04 pm : link

...who the fuck in their right mind would want to watch the Yankees with Domingo German on the mound?

What are you talking about? He's got good stuff, he just has to put it together and that will come with experience. He got through a really tough Astros lineup after the one bad pitch.

He's their #5 starter and no one is expecting him to be Cy Young. I seem to remember Sevie being similar a couple of seasons ago.

Agreed. Toe should be called up and him down. All he does is swing for the fences and missed more then not

A Mets fan who is looking at the Yankee prospects to see who we would want for DeGrom.

Andujar ties it, a monster shot

I'll take those six innings
Eman11 : 6/9/2018 9:10 pm : link
Every time from a rookie #5 starter.

Kid's got fantastic stuff he just needs to keep getting out there every five days.
Andujar
BigBlueShock : 6/9/2018 9:12 pm : link
That’s why some of us laughed when Dan said the Yankees don’t have a premium guy to offer the Mets if Torres isn’t involved, yet he thinks Rodgers and Hiura are centerpieces. Andujar is a stud.

No doubt he is.

I'm not trading either one and breaking this thing up. If it ain't broke.....
Callaway sucks - doesn't he have to pinch run for Gonzalez here?
Eric on Li : 6/9/2018 9:23 pm : link
i'd be lying if i said I was fully aware of the exact met bench right now, but a chance to go ahead late with a single is infinitely higher with anyone running than Gonzalez.

And bitch about your no5 starter not being an ace or that one hole on the entire offensive roster.

Trying being a mets fan. Every pitcher is a no5 starter and the offensive roster only has one player who is a plus.
Good to have Swarzak back
Rob in Rockaway : 6/9/2018 9:34 pm : link
I thought this torture might go to extra innings before the mets inevitably lose.
Callaway is a shit manager
moespree : 6/9/2018 9:34 pm : link
Really. I tried to say it was too early to think that and that he hasn't been given much to work with, all of which is true, but he's not any good with what he does have either. Mistake after mistake and inspires nothing and no one.
How does Callaway
bigbluehoya : 6/9/2018 9:38 pm : link
Factor into this?? He’s got a shit roster and went with his best healthy bullpen piece against the heart of the NYY lineup.

Swarzak made one mistake and paid. He owned the next 2 hitters.
Nice to see Didi
bigbluehoya : 6/9/2018 9:40 pm : link
Break things all the way back down and start focusing on line drive singles.
Is the old Betances back?
dpinzow : 6/9/2018 9:47 pm : link
He was dominant again (he got some favorable breaks with Frazier though)

Yup. Great insight on that. Here's hoping he keeps his focus there.

The HR's will come just like they did in April but hitting line drives is his best approach.
That was an inning of absolute filthyness

Nice to welcome 2015 Dellin back lately we missed you big fella
The menacing, almost unhittable Betances

returning to form makes this team so much better
Chapman up
bigbluehoya : 6/9/2018 9:56 pm : link
Not really happy that AB’s going to go to Chapman here.

Makes me feel relieved that they evidently didn’t find anything concerning with the incident last night, but Chapman is just too valuable to this team to take anything other than the most cautious route.

That makes the Betances renaissance more important. It's highly likely Chapman will need a rest/DL stint with his tendinitis so Betances might be pressed into a closer role
