I still think this is my favorite start to a Giants football game ever. Vikings were expected to do to us what we did to them. But Collins connects with Ike Hilliard for a quick TD. The Vikings fumble the ensuing kickoff. And then Collins hits Greg Comella for a TD on the very next snap. 14-0.
2000 NFC Championship: Giants vs. Vikings - (
New Window )
--Hilliard and Toomer (155 and 88) each had more receiving yards than Culpepper did throwing (78).
--Randy Moss, 2 catches, 18 yards, 7 targets. Carter 3-for-24 on 7 targets.
--Giants won TOP 42 min to 18 and almost QUINTUPLED the Vikings in net yardage.
--Giants only threw the ball 6 times in the second half. Obviously being up 34-0 and 41-0 passing was not needed.
--The player with the most touches in that game was Joe Montgomery, 16 carries for 43 yards.
--Giants' win probability reached 99 percent before the middle of the 2nd quarter.
I also forgot the Vikings were Vegas favorites, and I also wonder how many times in history a team got up 14-0 without the opposition running a play from scrimmage.

There are no rings of honor, nor should there be. But this is a fun NYG memory, a hell of a game, and part of the 5-0 NFC title record which is really cool.
read about that sideline comment in the post 2011 giants oral history book. was a great chapter about how confident sean payton was going into that game. He was basically saying if the Giants didn't drop 50 he'd be disappointed. also I think Fassel may have misled the press in preparation for that game in terms of what they were focused on.
I think this photo pretty well sums up the day.
The best part of the game was watching that jerk off Cris Carter sitting helplessly on the bench. What a phony he is...
It's been awhile but I think Mad Dog Russo predicted the exact score but an opposite result. too funny
Best game I've ever attended, and that includes the 49-3 win over the Niners and the Championship game against the Redskins.

The Giants got the ball back with 12:53 remaining and ran the clock out in a 19-play drive with Jason Garrett at quarterback. There was an officials' timeout in the middle of the drive so that Fox could get their commercials in.
There've been more one-sided games in NFL history by score, but very few have been as one-sided as it played out on the field.

That may have been the best eat-the-clock-to-run-out-the-game drive I've ever seen.
Didn't feel comfortable until late in the fourth quarter in 2000 because of that. But that is one of my all time favorite Giants moments. Glad I was there at the game. It was like being at the greatest party ever.

Didn't Joe Montgomery carry the ball on around 15 of those 19 plays?
"This game is OVER!"
it's 14 nothing. "oh shit' no us.
he was flabergasted
I almost puked after the comella Td. I ducked my head down into my lap and took a couple of deep breaths, my brother was like dude what are you doing. Lifted my head and was all snot and tears, but luckily no puke.
We were literally dancing in the aisles the rest of the day.

After the game I was walking to the parking lot just about to get on the escalator when right in front of me was a Vikings fan in full Vikings regalia. That week all I heard on Mike and the Goofy guppy (the week I stopped listening to them)was how the Giants didn't stand a dog's chance in hell and that there was something wrong with the NFL that such a team could get into the playoff's let alone the NFC championship game. Anyhow when I saw the poor loyal Vikings fan all I could do was yell into the guys face was "it wasn't that close" several times until a few other people on the escalator started repeating it. I'm sorry I did that now and I wish I could apologize to the guy but the remarks about the team, the field, and any thing that fat mike could think of to deflate the Giants and inflate the ego of his master Bill who didn't make the playoffs just got to me. Unfortunately I dumbly took it out on the poor Vikings fan. Anyhow that game definitely wasn't that close.
9-1 in Championship games (Conference/Super Bowl) in the modern era.
Also un-scored upon at home in the NFC Championship.
Was there some sort of "cheating" scandal of the Giants? I remember years ago on some message board someone said that the Giants knew their plays. Was that some scandal? I figure I'd have heard it. Not even sure if that can happen.
Definitely. Took a good friend of mine who is a Vikes fan to both games. The first one was devastating, after making fun of him all game only to see the tables turned last minute. That wasn't an issue in the 2000 game. Possibly the best live sporting event I've ever been to.
After the game he's yelling as we're going down the ramp, "Fuck Phil Simms" over and over. I don't think anyone but us had a clue why!!

This one was great, but the Skins game was the best home game ever.
This game was great and fun to destroy the Vikes. Like someone above said we didn’t sit down the whole first half, except for a Vikes fan that came with us ;-)
