The Giants announced they signed offensive tackle Jarron Jones and defensive back Kenneth Durden on Monday. They waived rookie free agent tackle Tyler Howell in a corresponding move. Link - ( New Window )
I was excited about Jones last year when he was a DT Â
The highlights of a game versus Miami were so impressive. He has the prototypical frame for an OT with incredibly long arms. He will be an intriguing developmental player IF he puts in the work which was a knock coming out of college.
As for Durden looks like another DB with ties to Townsend Â
Durden originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted rookie out of Youngstown State on May 10, 2016. He spent the entire 2016 season on the Raiders’ practice squad. Oakland waived Durden on September 2, 2017. He was on the Titans’ practice squad for a month last season.
Elite size, length and athleticism make Jones an intriguing early round prospect, but history of injuries and concerns over his football character could cause him to fall somewhat. Might have been miscast along the Irish defensive front as his playing style and body type appear to be much more suited further away from the nose spot. Jones' flashes will be tempting, but his lack of production and even snap count should be an immediate red flag along with the "proceed with caution" whispers coming from inside the program. If he can find consistent motivation, Jones could become a very good NFL starter in any defensive scheme. A true boom-or-bust prospect.

Jones is a huge project but the athleticism/size combo is rare.
Fairly damning for DRC.
Apparently they listed him as an OT.
RE: Jones - Wonder what the "proceed with caution" whispers were about? 6'6" - does that seem tall for NT?
