He did play 3rd about two weeks ago and it seemed to go fine. That said, he doesn't have a whole lot of experience there compared to 2nd or 1st.

I have been hoping for this for some time. This indicates that they may finally be seeing that he can be a super-sub, playing 3B, 2B, 1B, LF and RF (and maybe DH). While he won't win a Gold Glove at any of those positions, he can at least be adequate- which helps the team by allowing them to essentially have 2 players in one (INF and OF).
He would be a BIG improvement over Austin if he can be the backup 1B. Theoretically, he could also be the 4th OF (as Gardner can be the backup CF), which allow them to keep Walker as a lefty bat off the bench rather than as a backup INF.
In the playoffs, that would be immensely valuable. If Drury was the backup everywhere, Walker could be called on late in games as a PH without causing issues with defensive switches.
