Cant win scoring 2 runs on the road
I know he has been relatively clutch and started the year hot

but Cabrera is an annoying player. I think he's a guy that has a lot of talent but doesn't get the most out of it.
Only 2Ks for Wheeler tonight

Some hard hit balls right at OFs earlier on. You allow that many balls in play with a bad defense behind you and some will get through.

Top of the 6th ...
Stufftherun : 6/13/2018 7:34 am : link
they’ve already plated two runs and are poised to score a 3rd and possibly a 4th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out. The infield is in and Mez pulls one to 3rd where Camargo is playing even with the bag in fact he’s just a few feet away from it. Why in the hell is Cabrera caught that far off 3rd?! All you have to do is stand on 3rd and if the ball is hit through the drawn in infield, you jog home, or if the ball is hit into the air to the outfield, you get ready to tag but noooo, twinkle toes is caught off 3rd on a tag then Mez is thrown out at first for the DP. Only the Mets can fuck up a potential big inning!

To add insult to injury, Sewald eventually comes in for Wheeler in the bottom of the inning to pitch BP, as per usual, and gives up a bomb that any of us could have squared up and ripped! It’s always a series of physical and/or mental gaffes with this group. What was it, 3 measley hits on the evening? They’re a group of misfits in baseball uniforms masquerading as a real MLB team.

I would send Conforto to AAA (actually being discussed), DFA Reyes, DFA Robles, and DL Cabrera. I would promote Drew Smith, McNeil, and Cechini (when he's healthy) to take their places. Im still going to watch this season play out until the deadline and see where we are. Absolutely fucking sucks we are missing pieces like Thor, Cespedes, and Famiia once again but the pitching has still been fantastic lately.

Also promote Alonso to AAA so if Smith fails after a little run they can be swapped.

Why do the mets keep putting Conforto in CF, he is NOT a CF, he's barely adequate as a corner OF?
Foltynewicz left the game due to triceps tightness
Jay on the Island : 6/13/2018 9:13 am : link
He is scheduled to make his next start
Sewald
pjcas18 : 6/13/2018 9:27 am : link
needs a break, he's been brutal lately. Between him and Robles not sure who can be relied upon.

Shit like this is why players like Gsellman "break" they are generally reliable when Robles and Sewald pitch like assholes.

Sewald has allowed at least one run in 5 of his last 6 appearances. And those are only the runs charged to him.

Over that time he has 7 inherited runners and amazingly all 7 inherited runners have gone on to score.

And he has two blown saves in that time.

I'm not sure you can get much worse.

Drew Smith should be up and Sewald should be sent down, if you want to DFA Robles to make room no complaint from me, Robles and Sewald are brutal.
Sewald sucked - but Cabrera also made the pitchers need 4 outs
Eric on Li : 6/13/2018 9:44 am : link
simple fielding mistakes consistently hurt this team with no repercussions. Yes he had an amazingly hot start, but since he and the entire team are now ice cold nobody is hitting well enough that there shouldn't be some accountability for not executing simple plays.
Sound like broken records don't we?
pjcas18 : 6/13/2018 9:48 am : link
droobs should be traded, Reyes DFA'd, Bruce shopped in a salary dump scenario.

In addition to DFA-ing Robles and Sewald.

And none of that is waving the white flag, it's improving the team probably short-term and long-term.

Yup. If I were Sandy I'd have Eiland/Callaway/whoever make a list of all the pitchers with similar $ left to Bruce who suck, basically other teams Vargas', and try to swap bad contract for bad contract. Realistically we know they aren't signing a big name starter in the offseason, so may as well try to go shopping for a reclamation project they can trade in for Bruce now. I guess they have until Cespedes is healthy to hope he hits a little to up his value but I truthfully don't think it's changing. That would probably be my #1 priority before the deadline.

Trading Droobs, Blevins, Swarzak, etc probably won't return too much but I'd dump all of them for pretty much whatever I could get. Clear the way for Guillorme, Cecchini, Dom, Drew Smith, Mcneil, Nimmo and Conforto to play as much as possible.

Familia is really the only one that could go either way bc Id like to resign him if at all possible. If someone offered a top 100 level prospect for him I'd have to consider it, but I don't think it's worth dealing him if it's a similar return to what Reed brought back last year. I guess Wheeler and Matz are on that same level since they are cheap upside arms and I have no confidence the org is going to find better replacements via FA next year if the Alex Cobb's of the world can still get $60m in a weak market.

It is really time for Callaway to go. I've seen the Mets lolmet it up many a time before. But to outright quit like they have now. This is very very bad. They are not competing.

You can have bad luck, injuries, heartbreaking losses. But when you refuse to give an effort like this. This is when heads roll.

Isn't exactly pro Callaway. They've made some interesting comments and questions about things he has done, that I don't remember them doing all that much with Collins. I think Callaway was given a bad roster composition. But he hasn't exactly done much with what he was given either. I don't know what the answer is. I don't think I'd fire him, but he's not very impressive either, I must admit.

Collins wasn't a great tactician either but he was better than Callaway and you could make some sense of even his controversial decisions. I think the Mets booth liked him as an old school guy. He was respected at the very least by the team who always played hard for him. I've seen worse teams than what the Mets have now play harder and win more and just have more spark and heart than what they have now.

Callaway has been a disaster with his roster decisions. I think when it's a commercial or when the mics are muted they really cut loose

When you do a big sell off for a half dozen high minors power relief arms, you probably shouldn't need to be claiming a White Sox 40-man casualty nine months later.

People are mentioning both. It's just nothing can be done about the Wilpons and I think people realize Sandy is probably going to stick around a little while longer. And he deserves a chunk of the blame yes.

But let's not act like this roster is that porous. This is not the 1962 Mets here. There is talent there it's just...comatose. There is no excuse for them to go 4-17 in their past 21 games. None. They are nowhere near this bad

On twitter the writers have made consistent mention of no better 2b options, now no better RP options than Sewald and "lack of depth"... WHO BUILT THIS TEAM? WHO BUILT THIS FARM? It's absolutely bonkers Sandy's job isn't on the line. Truly. Whether you think he's a shield for the Wilpons or not (Heyman insists they like the job he's doing) even for optics... for Sandy's job to be safe is beyond absurd. 32 games under .500 since opening day 2017 and the 28th ranked farm. Time to go brother.

This is such BS revisionist history. They didn’t always play hard or play particularly sound fundamental baseball under Collins AT ALL. This was complained about for years under Collins. Terry was a bad manager. I love how people are suddenly loving Terry now. Ugh.

Terry was not a great manager but they did respect him and played hard for him and never outright quit in June like they have now. Collins looks good now because Callaway is essentially baseballs Richie Kotite

They need a new hitting coach
under Collins they had similar times where it looked like they quit
Eric on Li : 6/13/2018 3:27 pm : link
and we all wanted him fired. Supposedly one of them (2013 or 2014?) David Wright went to management and lobbied for him to keep his job saying they hadn't quit on him. I remember there was an epic Francesa rant about how they quit. But there's also no doubt they played hard for Terry at times and respected him as a manager.

I think current Mets management needs to make that judgement call with Callaway. Does the team respect him or did he lose the lockerroom? I don't think managers generally have a big effect, but if the team has quit that's a different story.

I thought it was awesome (/sarcasm) when he said he needs a procedure, but it involved lengthy time off and they couldn't afford that right now.

sure, but they can afford the pop ups down 2 - 0 with men on 2nd and 3rd in the 9th inning.

This not only hurts the team but probably shreds any hint of trade value as small as it was he may have had.

So to recap, according to the Mets front office it appears in their eyes that the farm system has no adequate replacement for .149 hitting Reyes and nobody better than newly signed 6 ERA Beck. What does that say about the system in general?

What’s not to like? Little practice time, fun little handshakes, zero accountability for failure. I’m sure they all love him.

Besides, if the players quit on a manager a third of the way through the season in the managers first year, then the problem is with the players not the manager. There is zero leadership on this team. Their most prominent team veteran would rather be playing golf then in the actual games.
What do people expect Callaway
Metnut : 6/13/2018 3:56 pm : link
to do? Alderson and his cronies have left him with an awful roster. They were awful last year under Collins too. He’s done a good job with the SP at least.

You really want to blame Callaway because AGonz, all of the catchers, Bruce, the middle relief, the entire farm system stinks? Rosario and Conforto were supposedly Sandy’s best hitting prospects after being GM for almost a decade. Are we blaming Callaway that they stink this year?

I’m not saying Callaway has been great, but blaming this disaster on the manager doesn’t make sense IMO.

Jacob deGrom is literally the unluckiest in recorded baseball history. When a starter has posted an ERA under 1.00 over 10 starts, the team has never won fewer than four games.

DeGrom has a 0.87 ERA over his last 10 starts. The #Mets are 2-8.
