How Ereck Flowers is approaching final Giants chance

“End of the day, they gotta do what’s best for the organization,” Flowers said of the team trying to trade him. “I don’t have any personal feelings about it and for me, I wanna prove myself every time I hit the field. I wanna get better every year and mainly, I just wanna do it for myself. It’s not to prove to anybody else, but prove to myself that I can play at a certain level.”

here's hoping in year 4

he gets a chance to succeed at the position he should have been playing from the start.
Great statement.

Wish him well, think he gives it all he has and you can't do more than that .
Last administration may have done the organization ...

... and Flowers a disservice by keeping him at LT. Looking forward to seeing him at RT.
Rooting for Him

He's so young. All the attitude issues COULD be a result of young age+bad advice+lack of leadership around him.

Watched the interview and he strikes me as a player that cares about doing a good job and embracing the challenge.

Not his fault Reese chose him where he did.

He's got it physically to play RT. If he is aided by his own mentality, teammates and coaching he may positively surprise us all this year.

Go Ereck!
Can someone sum up for me

Why we're so sure Flowers will be better at RT than LT?

His attitude looks fine. I know there's no guarantees but hope he solidifies the RT spot in the OL.

i said it last year as well.

if Flowers becomes an above average tackle he may become my favorite Giant. he's a young man in a very difficult sport. i hope he succeeds.

wish him the best, for himself and the Giants. The OL would be so much better if he is an effective RT.
If he becomes a servicable RT
Mark from Jersey : 6/13/2018 6:02 pm : link
its a win win. We dont need him to be an All Pro.

If he becomes better than serviceable, since he'll be a free agent in line for a nice new contract.

Lol, exactly. At least Eli can see the pressure coming from that side. Every time I think of Flowers now on the left side I just picture Ansah lifting him in the air

I don’t see us resigning him unless he looks like the best RT ever. I think his replacement, if not on the bench this year, will be coming in round 1 or 2 of next years draft, with God willing a healthy Gettleman at the controls.
I hope he'll be a better RT than a backup LT
JohnB : 6/13/2018 8:50 pm : link
That's all we can hope for.
I'm praying that E. Flowers & C. Wheeler battle to the last....
SGMen : 6/13/2018 9:58 pm : link
I am really hoping both of these young players compete to the fullest and whoever wins the starting job, well, he wins the starting job.

I give the nod to E. Flowers because of his real game experience over 2nd year man C. Wheeler. This is his "future" as he needs a solid campaign to get a big contract as a UFA. I do believe the Giants made the right move by not committing to his 5th year. Prove it, baby.

I think this year's OL will be:

LT - N. Solder LG - Hernandez OC - Hilapio OG P. Omameh and RT E. Flowers

Backups will be C. Wheeler, B. Jones, J. Jerry (versatile veteran). Not sure if we carry more than 8 OL and maybe as many as 3 on the PS?

: ) .... that is about as laconic (and perfect phrased) .. a summation as I have ever heard.
Flowers has taken so much shit
LakeGeorgeGiant : 6/14/2018 4:35 am : link
and one could say he brought it on with his level of play, but the thing is that he was a very young rookie thrust into a bad position by the previous staff.

Granted, the Beatty injury put him at LT, but they should have moved him the following year, instead they doubled down on the stupid.

Then the fans and media tore into a young kid that hasn't had any consistency in coaching and is playing a position that he doesn't have the feet for.

Maybe he will sink, maybe he will swim, but this is the first realistic shot he has had.
Flowers has a lousy attitude

I see only a modicum of improvement in it right now -- we'll see what he does -- but in mo his body language has not changed at all

Most observers think that Flowers is big enough and powerful enough and mobile enough to both hold off blockers on the right side and clear paths on the right side, but are of the opinion that he lacks the footwork and quickness to play LT effectively. This is also what I think.

Agreed, he's going to lean heavily on Solder to try and leverage his value, and then look for a deal to escape next March.
