NFT: Baseball: Amateur draft vs International Free Agent signing?

Which is more important? I haven't crunched the numbers, but it seems like the most highly regarded prospects are coming from the IFA. Is it just the result of a small sample set? A false impression to begin with? Or the current reality?
p.s.--Is this Juan Soto guy for real? He's even younger than Torres and he's crushing it!
Soto just hit one to Arthur Ave from the lefty batter’s box

Insane talent at 19.
Thing is...

Do you really think he is actually 19?
Well, as a Mets fan, I find this question very compelling.

Which group of prospects washes out more quickly? Of those that don't, which group gets hurt more often. Of those that don't wash out or get hurt, which ones... Which ones...

Wait, are there prospects who don't wash out or get hurt? You can do that?
Ahhhhh what could have been

If that same1.5 went to Soto instead of Guerrero. Siggghhhhh
I think Soto is for real ...

So far in 2018:
- In 39 minor league games he hit .362, 14-HRs, 10-2Bs, 4-3Bs
- In 20 MLB games he's hit .344, 5-HRs, 4-2Bs

He's for real, if he can keep up this pace it should help cover the loss of Harper if he leaves this winter.

I am one who is very happy to see him playing in the NL where the Yanks will rarely have to face him.
All these INT kids do is baseball from the time they pick up a ball

If they show they have talent they are put in special academies and on teams and do nothing else. Do you think they are learning what the Pythagorean theory is or who won WWII? Nope they can barely write their names but they can play ball.

That is why they are so good so early.
I don't know which is more important

I think you find superstars from both the draft and IFA's.

The fact though is not every team has a chance to draft every draft eligible player, but with IFA's each team has the same theoretical shot.

What I mean is in a draft where the can't miss kids like Bryce Harper or Stephen Strasburg or even not #1 overall but high-ish slam dunk picks, not every team has a chance to take them. But you do have a shot at every IFA (in theory).
For the Yankees...

probably 60/40 draft. For other teams (the Orioles for instance), it's 90/10. The Rangers, on the other hand, may be 50/50 or tilted toward IFA. Even with the pool allocation, Latin America requires a pretty substantial investment of resources to do more than poach the headliners, and the heavy hitters (NYY, Boston, Texas, etc) tend to do better with the big-name guys anyway because they have longstanding relationships with their trainers. The declining security situation in Venezuela has made talent evaluation there more difficult, and some teams very nearly avoid it entirely.

I'm a Nats fan as was floored when we brought him up. He was in AA for like 2 weeks and started the season in Low-A. The thing is, he's not even our most prized prospect. Victor Robles (who probably has to be a bit bummed right now watching Soto) is out until July sometime.

Other than the awesome HRs (how many HR's have gone that far in NYY stadium?) his most impressive stat is the BB's he's drawing. I think he has 11BB to 12K's. He'll start to slump at some point and it'll be interesting how he handles that. Right now though, he's all smiles.

The Nationals have done a great job with maintaining a solid farm system despite promotions and trades. They could use more pitching prospects but they can always address that through free agency or trades. I look forward to Acuna, Albies, and Swanson going head to head with Robles, Soto, and Turner for years to come.
