Sifting through twitter today and there are more good reports coming out on Davis Webb.
Madelynn Burke proclaimed "Saw some good stuff from Davis Webb today. He will make noise when his time comes."
This is great as a Giant fan. Puts pressure on Eli to know that if he struggles this year the organization may have a legit QB to turn to.
I think threads like these should end with something funny.
Ill start.
I like cheese.
Fail to see how it benefits Eli.
That being said:
Not the best thread title, I admit.
With the whole offseason designed to provide Eli with support (Barkley, Solder, Omaneh, Hernandez), and the organization's obvious fear of doing anything anti-Eli, there is virtually no way this team benches Eli unless we get off to an absolutely horrific start, and Eli is clearly to blame. Put differently, I see almost no scenario - barring injury - under which Eli doesn't start the third game of the season. It would take earth shattering poor performances - something like back to back 4 INT games - to do that. Considering the guy threw 13 INTs all of last season with no weapons and no O-Line, it is almost impossible to foresee a situation in which Eli melts down like that.
Me? I like turtles.
If Webb does very well and Eli declines, I can't see any upside for Eli in that situation.

Like cheese? How about trying some goat cheese with "Triscuit Fire Roasted Tomato and Olive Oil"? That should make smoke come out of your ears!
So naive.

Mike, I think you've gone mad.

With the Jags looking like a very strong team, and a hostile environment in Dallas, I doubt Eli even makes it to Houston with his job intact.

Unless injured, Eli will finish his contract as starter. He may be pulled out of late season games in 2018 when Giants are out of playoffs. He will be given every opportunity to go out as winner in 2019... after 2019 ??
Quite possibly the most moronic thing I've ever read here.
Doesn't come close to your sad. misguided belief that denial is a river in Egypt.

Mike, I do not remember you as being a BBI shithead but you are coming off as a troll in this thread. WTH?

I'm not so sure about that. If Eli struggles this year, I don't believe he will be starting next year. That becomes even more likely if Webb (or, less likely, Lauletta) has progressed to the point that the staff is comfortable handing the reins to him. Simply put, this is a no excuse year for Eli. With the upgraded offensive line, new coach (and scheme), Barkley, and healthy ODB, a subpar year from Eli means that is truly done, and that is that.

Good post. What I saw about Eli is that he had a line that couldn't pass/run block worth a damn. Almost every play was a jail break on that line. There was no way for any QB to perform well under those circumstances.
Let's see how our 37 year old QB does this year.
Guess I was wrong.
It's very understandable why some would get excited about him in shorts, he's has some tools, but when he puts it all together on the field, he just doesn't look the part.
And again, this isn't the best argument, but what are the odds that the Reese regime found a legit franchise qb in round 3 when he couldn't find any other legit starters let alone franchise caliber players in any other year.

When did you see any of Webb that leads you to that position?
Answer: since he hasn't played, you could not have. So, basically you have an uncorroborated opinion.

I'm as big a skeptic as anyone. And I firmly believe we should have selected a QB at 2. Nonetheless, it is good to hear good things about Webb. Most importantly, he undoubtedly has a killer work ethic. And, by all accounts, he is vastly improved from last year at this time, and Shurmur even said (if you take him at his word) that Webb improved throughout the Spring. While OTAs are indicative of virtually nothing, it is great to hear he's had success during the Spring. Finding a franchise QB - or even long term starter - in the 3rd Round is a long shot, so I'm like you: not buying it until I see it with pads on. But at least he's doing all that he can right now to show the coaches that they may have something there. And let's be honest; they better have something in Webb, because they decided analytics mean nothing, the strong QB draft meant nothing, and passed on all QBs for a RB.
Why do some people make it sound like Eli struggling is a distinct possibility ? Based on everything weve seen over a 15 year period a full season of pure struggle from Eli Manning is the exception, not the norm.
Eli wont struggle with the personnel and coaching in place. You can bet on it.
I dont think anyone is dimissing it. Just being more positive. Shurmur's comments have been glowing (something our previous coach had a hard time saying), the reporters have said his arm looks lively and accurate so far (albeit against no pads).
We have a new beginning - so IMO most of us are being positive because we have some great weapons (OBJ, SS, EE, SB), we made an effort to improve the OL. Flowers seems like he found a new bff in Solder rather than Hard, which can only be good.
Eli for all intents and purposes may stink. But he has 1 year maybe 2 left. Let him go off with a bang as he deserves.
I don't know about anyone else, but I would be very surprised to see Manning struggle in a workable environment. My take has been that Manning wasn't the culprit for the offensive struggles as the environment wasn't workable in my opinion. The mixture of Mac's "offense", a bad offensive line with literally no threat at the running back position was a disaster. I think Shurmur has a real offense, add in some new components at OL and a real potential difference maker at RB and you have a potentially very good situation. So, I will be very surprised if Manning struggles considering all of that. Obviously there is potential for things to not work out like I have envisioned, whether that be the OL not performing as expected, injuries, skill players not performing, or the QB could be toast mentally.
We'll see. I'm excited about the offense this season.
If you are implying that it is good for Eli because he now has someone pushing him, I think you re wrong. Eli has always given 100%.
Giants are committed to Eli for the foreseeable future, their draft proved that.
Just keeping it real on Friday morning...
It's June. There's simply nothing about football to talk about, so they try to make content where they can.
