NFT: Good Horror Reads?

NorwoodWideRight : 6/14/2018 4:42 pm
Looking for recommendations for something truly spine-tingling and off my usual beaten path. I've read pretty much all of King and Koontz, as well as the classics. Looking for something contemporary. Any ideas?

In no particular order...

But if you haven't read him, H.P. Lovecraft is great. Here's a link to his public domain stuff:
Electronic Texts of H.P. Lovecraft’s Works.

Followed by:

Books of Blood by Clive Barker
House of Leaves, Mark Z. Danielewski
Hell House, Richard Matheson
American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis

That should get you started!

Ghost Story is actually one of the "scariest" books I've read. I remember reading on cruise in the early 80's. Holy crap didn't want to go to sleep. I believe it came out around 1979-80. Worth the 4$ on amazon.
Jaws, Peter Benchley

Aldo, the Manitou was decent.
Not new and not really horror, but since you are a King fan

have you read The Dark Tower series? It's essential reading for any King fan. Genre bending, iconic characters, and it ties his entire literary world together. All things serve the beam.

Dan Simmons he is best know for the book "The Terror" which was recently made into a TV mini series on AMC which was very good but he has a bunch of books that are good like summer of night and song of Kali and several more.

You might try Prador Moon by Neal Asher. Far future, but all the same ...
Michael Marshall Smith...
Chris in Philly : 6/15/2018 6:54 pm : link
He also publishes as Michael Marshall. He does some sci-fi, some thrillers, and some horror. You might like Straw Men.
