As previously announced, Jonathan Loaisiga has been called up from AA-Trenton and will be making his first start. Tyler Austin has been optioned to AAA-SWB to make room for Loaisiga.
Also, the Yanks will be facing old teammate Eovaldi on the mound for the Rays tonight.
The line on Justin Sheffield from last night's AAA-SWB victory was 5.1-IP, 8-H, 2-ER, 1-BB, 7-SO. Drury had a good night at the plate going 2 for 5 with a HR.
Haha,no doubt. I thought maybe he got squeezed a little but real nice bounce back for a kid in his first start in the bigs and at the Stadium taboot.
Cashman should probably gift him to a small market team as a gesture of good will. You know, so he doesn’t seem like such a fleecer.

has a special arm. Already such an enormous victory for the Yankees scouting and development systems

Damn Cashman, always doing so well in trades. Awful for the franchise

When/How did we get Johnny?
We got a mattress and a toilet for Eovaldi?

and small sample size, yadda yadda...Loaisiga looks filthy tonight. Just gave up his first hit with 1 out in the 4th
+1 He looks awesome.
Definitely showing he's got good stuff, and I like his presence too.
Anyone else think that pitch Gary got crossed up on was strike 3? I know umps get fooled on that stuff too but it sure looked like it might've been a strike to me.

Yup. Saw that after I posted. Probably posted while I was typing as I'm not the quickest on a keyboard but good to know I wasn't the only one who saw and thought that.
Let's get him some help.
Lol. I was just getting intrigued too. 5 innings 1 run and 67 pitches...
Let's get him some help.
Loaisiga has a clean delivery that he repeats well, allowing him to work the bottom of the strike zone and issue just three walks in 32 2/3 innings last season. His stuff and control give him a ceiling of a mid-rotation starter, though his size and health history are concerns. If he winds up in the bullpen, his stuff should add even more power and he could rush through the Minors.
If he gets the speed on his changeup down a little, he could be really nasty. He's really tiny for a modern mlb starter: 5'11", 165, but a beautiful motion. Story of getting him:
Yankees scout Ricardo Finol saw a skinny pitcher blow away hitters at a tournament in Venezuela in 2016. Immediately, he called his boss, International Scouting Director Donny Rowland, demanding the team sign him on the spot. Rowland knew nothing about Loaisiga. Still, Finol's aggressiveness — Rowland had never heard him sound like this before — convinced Rowland, and they made a deal right away.

Hopefully we get the offense going and the pen does their job.
Looking back, I was one last year who said "who" when the 40 man roster was announced, and his name was on it.
I was one who said "who" when they announced he was pitching today...

Same size as Ron Guidry......
Yup you’re right. Thankfully we got the runner anyway
I thought so too. This ump is too easily distracted by the catcher moving.

Ump missed the swing call. Strike out precluded the throw out, but the ump fucking missed it.

Thank god there were two outs already.

Was gonna say the same thing. Pedro wasn't very big either.
I guess neither would be considered modern day but I don't think that matters. If you've got the stuff to get major leaguers out, that's really all that counts IMO.

Do you have any doubt that Gator or Pedro wouldn't be just as effective today?
The quality of their pitching works in any era.
