We spent a fucking second overall on a goddamn RB. He better start from Day 1 and he better start each game for at least 5 years.
Curious what your definition of starting is? What percentage of players per game does Barkley have to be on the field for in order to be considered a starter? Or if we're going by carries does he need at least 20 a game, 25 some other #?

Hopefully it won't come down to us having to quibble over definitions. If Barkley isn't establishing himself as the guy among this group of glad to have a job-ers, then we've made a mistake. But I highly doubt it will come to that.

I'd look at it as % of touches, and I'd hope he'd justify getting 75-80% of the touches out of the RB group (off the top of my head).
But as another poster said, it's really just about establishing himself as an integral part (and potentially centerpiece) of the office.

I don't think you want him getting a set % of RB touches. The Eagles/Cowboys had ~530 RB touches last year. You really want Barkley getting 400-420 touches for the season? For reference, Zeke had ~350 touches his rookie season.
I think ideally Barkley would have 300-350 touches for the season which is 19-22 touches/game. Don't want him worn down during the playoff run...
Carter will be a situational guy this year, unless there's injuries.
You have to start Barkley on Day 1. A guy that's that talented won't be sitting on the bench waiting for his turn. OBJ would have been an instant starter had he not had a hammy. So far he's given the Giants no reason to believe he can't handle it. I, for one, can't wait to see what he is in Pre-Season.
Nothing wrong with these talented rookies starting Â
who really cares who starts anymore? Everyone will play.
Agree. I'd define "starting" as the player who gets the most snaps at a particular position in a game and not just the player who happens to get the call on the opening play.
And I have to believe that the NJ betting odds on who gets the most snaps at RB for the Giants for game #1 will be Barkley, going away.
...that's plenty of playing time. Doesn't matter whether he starts. Give him a year to fill out his frame and master a complex LB role in an NFL defense.
The likely starting LBs are Martin, Goodson, Ogletree and Vernon. Â
Vernon and Ogletree are locks. Just look at their contracts. Martin makes pretty good coin too. Goodson could be vulnerable - especially if he gets dinged again - but he and Carter play different positions.
I like the Giants' OLB depth/rotation. ILB is a different story. Goodson and Ogletree need to show up big time, and stay healthy.
Stewart was signed in case the Browns snagged Barkley. Then the Giants would not have taken a RB until the 2nd or 3rd round. In That event the rookie Rb would be eased in. Barkley is already better than Stewart and 3/4 of the backs in the league. Stewart will still be used to give Barkley a rest. I see Stewart getting 1/4 of the snaps and Barkley 3/4 of the plays. Barkley and Zeke are the two ELITE backs in the NFL. I do not see anyone else being close in terms of the combination of running catching and blocking. There are many backs who are good power runners but cannot play the receiver type roll and block as well as Barkley. And Barkley can also run with power between the tackles although there are other backs who can run between the tackles better than him ( like that back for the Jags) but cannot do the other things mentioned as well.
Barkley starts day 1
Next year yes....
We got 4 starters in this draft in MHO. Great first draft by Getts!
But it’s all contingent on hw hard Carter and Hill work and how fast they learn.
See Barkley

Remember Jonathan Stewart was brought in for big money...
Big Money? Jonathan Stewart signed a two year, $6.9 million contract with the Giants. Stewart received $2.95 million in guarantees.
Barkley starts day 1
That is easily starter money in the NFL. Go look at what the eagles pay their running backs...

No Way Stewart starts IMHO..have you heard his name mentioned once in ANY OTA reports since the draft.

Barkley makes double that (~$7.8M AAV) so if its all about the contracts, then why would Stewart start?
Stewart's the 22nd highest paid RB in the NFL so I guess technically he makes 'starter' money, but it's not a ridiculous amount.
Dalvin Cook started right off the bat with the Vikes, despite Murray being brought in for "big money" ($5M AAV).
Mauro's suspended 4 games, so he definitely won't be starting. I agree that Hill pushes Wynn for the other DE spot.

We will run the freaking ball on the first offense play of the season
