Per the Review-Journal's Michael Gehlken, Bryant's imminent discipline is believed to pertain to the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Bryant, of course, missed all of 2016 due to substance-abuse-policy violations. Gehlken confirms any further substance-abuse infraction could cost Bryant another year, or longer. |
If he’s suspended for the year, does he become a FA given he hasn’t played? It was his and not the team’s fault
So I think the Raiders would still control Bryant's rights for 2019 and Martavis wouldn't be a free agent till 2020 since he needs to accure another season (which would be 2019 if he returns).
Why cut him, makes no sense. Bryant won't be paid, can't be around the team or facilities while suspended, so won't be able to be a bad influence.
Raiders best course of action if what the Browns did with Josh Gordon. Wait till he gets back and try to see if they can salvage any of his value in 2019 if possible. If he's a head case, you cut him then in 2019. Till then, it costs you nothing to keep his rights while he's suspended.
None what so ever, the trade wasn't for a conditional draft pick. It's buyer beware and the Raiders just drew the short end of the stick on that move.

but I can see them cutting him despite the pick given. He’s just not a guy you want on your team. They took a huge risk and it looks like it was an awful move.

“Makes no sense” or it makes a lot of sense. He’s a bad locker room guy which is part of the reason why he was shipped in the first place. And now on top of that he will always be 1 infraction away from a year long suspension.
Addition by subtraction. He simply isn’t worth it.

None of what you said makes sense.
"He's a bad locker room guy"...he won't be allowed anywhere near the team, the locker room, any practices or games while suspended. So how would Bryant being a bad locker room guy effect the team if he's not allowed to be there?
"He simply isn't worth it"...tell that to the Browns with how they handled Josh Gordon. Gordon was suspended and wasn't anywhere near the team in 2015 and 2016. When Gordon final was reinstated, he still looked like the best WR on the team and averaged almost 70 receiving yards per over his 5 games played. Plus he looks to have his life on track and is slated for a big role in the Browns offense this year.
Will Bryant be able to make a similar turnaround that Gordon did while suspended? Who knows but it will cost the Raiders nothing to hold onto his rights and find out one way or another.
As for Josh Gordon, can the guy prove he can stay on the field for more than half a season before considering him a success? Hell, people here thought Will Hill was worth keeping pointing to his performance with the Ravens and the way he righted the ship.
Just before hitting a fucking iceberg....
The guy is a shitty teammate. Now, during suspension, and post suspension. What exactly are you arguing?
Guy is actually pretty good as a WR, but he's got a shit attitude, off field issues, undersized, and a year long potential suspension ...LOL
Pittsburgh stole from Oakland.
Pittsburgh stole from Oakland.
Dude that's crazy, I absolutely did not know he was 6-4. That's totally my bad. I guess he's a bit skinny at 211 but holy hell I watched this guy play a lot and I could have sworn he was 6-0 or so ... oh well. Time to make an eye doctor appt or start double checking heights when watching players

Ha!
Super guilty as charged.
I am curious what the drugs are though. Marijuana which is legal in most states now? NFL needs to grow the fuck up with this.
