If Cleveland selected Barkley 1st overall and given that Webb during OTA's and mini camp has done nothing to disprove managements faith in him I have two questions.
1. Who WOULD the Giants have taken?
2. Who SHOULD the Giants have taken?
No trade downs
2) Darnold
There were several reports that it would have been Chubb. However, I'm not sure of the validity of those reports.
I could've seen them dropping down a few spots if that was the case and grabbing Nelson. I'm not sure the reports on the Chubb interest were really that accurate. Nor do I think he would've been a great fit in this D.
Let’s move on!
But the Browns drafted Mayfield and the Giants drafted Barkley, so useless argument. We will never know.
Cleveland should have taken Barkley with their first and traded down with the Giants to get their QB.
At 4th overall, it think the Giants would have taken Nelson, and with the 3 second rounders, taken Hernandez, a RB and an Edge Rusher.
I love Barkley, but the above would be a decent consolation prize.
Can definitely confirm this. People are gushing about him. My brother met two coaches (assistants) at the Famished Frog in Morristown the other day. They are amazed at his processing speed and had no clue he'd pretty much have the entire playbook down by now. When he was drafted they had no intention of starting him week 1, but inside the organization they're pretty much resigned to the fact Darnold will force their hand if this keeps up.
fyi neither of the coaches he met was Jeremy Bates who made the comments in the paper a few days ago.
“We’re sitting there in film watching him, and he’ll make this throw on the sideline and you’re like, ‘Are you all watching this?’ It’s insane.
Let’s move on!
Yes, because the road not taken discussion is just too time consuming.

No HAUL was offered to make it worthwhile

Right, because that was set in stone as far as we know...
Disagree, John. Knowing the Browns history with QBs, they absolutely had to take their guy at #1. No screwing around. Don't get cute.

Tight end Jordan Leggett was asked what stands out about Darnold. “Just the way he moves in the pocket when he has pressure …” Leggett said. “And then as well as when he scrambles out of the pocket, he’s always looking downfield for somebody to throw it to, and just when he throws it, how accurate he is.
“We’re sitting there in film watching him, and he’ll make this throw on the sideline and you’re like, ‘Are you all watching this?’ It’s insane.
Sounds like another Tony Romo may be coming.

Not a bad comparison. Though style wise he doesn't really remind you of any other current QB's. Either now or in recent memory. He's a sort of blend. Some plays he makes look very Roethlisberger, others Philip Rivers.
Darnold would have been my pick

Thanks for your opinion Jim, but seriously who cares! We hopefully drafted the best player in the draft. Why do I care if we would draft a player who was not as good as him? The goal is for him to prove he was the best player in the draft and if he was and is we will all be very happy. So who cares who it would have been. We got Barkley move on.

Who clicked on this thread to add their "who cares" comments, as if people who choose to discuss a football topic that they don't approve of need to be admonished.

If you don't care, then [i]you[/you] move on. It's june. There is nothing football-related to really talk about until camp starts.
If you don't like the question, simply duck out.
