NFT: World Cup Day 3 Thread - 4 Games Today

Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 6/16/2018 8:24 am
Discuss France/Australia, Argentina/Iceland, Peru/Denmark and Croatia/Nigeria.

France v Australia already completed. Argentina coming up at 9 ET. Hopefully a couple of games can match yesterday's finale.
Tough to top yesterday’s games.

Obviously, the Spain -Portugal game was a classic.
Koooom sååååååå Danmark
Koldegaard : 6/16/2018 8:45 am : link
(Leeeet's goooooo Denmark)

I hope and think that our team is too talented and well coached for Peru. I am thinking 3-1 or 2-1.

The brother of Pione Sisto and Eriksen grew up 40 km from me. I see him quite often during summers. We are such a small country.
Argentina's back four is going to be a problem

Probably a dumb question but how much Soccer is played outdoors in Iceland?

I think he was talking about Denmark.
Yup, I’m a moron
UConn4523 : 6/16/2018 9:49 am : link
I’ll chalk it up to being sick in bed (thankfully with the WC on).

I guess same question then about Denmark.
This Iceland time is pretty fun to watch
UConn4523 : 6/16/2018 9:50 am : link
they are far less skilled but their size is a problem. One of those throw ins could lead to a header at any time.
Every World Cup I find myself rooting for Iceland
PatersonPlank : 6/16/2018 10:12 am : link
There are just such an underdog, yet they play hard and compete. Plus I love the country unity and Viking chant
I didn't see how VAR was employed in the France match,
Go Terps : 6/16/2018 10:14 am : link
But we're seeing decisions being reviewed in just a few seconds. If ever there was proof that the NFL's system is a bullshit way to squeeze an ad in, we're seeing it here.

Baseball is just as bad if not worse IMO. Especially since the umps have no input on the ruling of the video booth.

No reason they have to go to the headphones with two umps and stand around and wait so long. Just use an earpiece like they are doing here in the WC. It makes so much more sense.
Wow

Fantastic save on Messi's penalty kick.

No matter what happens that's got to be a lifelong priceless memory for the goal keeper.
Feels like Argentina is in trouble
Go Terps : 6/16/2018 10:29 am : link
Way too static, and their body language isn't good. They play like they are waiting for Messi to do something.

And at the other end, there have been more than a few warning signs.

Yep that was a mistake. I was thinking Euro's.

The Iceland goalie is standing on his head (as they say)

Great match

Iceland reminding us USMNT fans that our issue isn't talent - it's a lack of a well implemented and well drilled vision. Iceland know what they are and they play to it.

And Messi looks like he literally has the weight of a country on his shoulders.
The Peruvian team
Pete in MD : 6/16/2018 12:12 pm : link
features two MLS players. Yutan from Orlando and Polo from Portland. Yutan is in the starting lineup.
Or Yotun

Haha no worries. Iceland is our brother in many ways.
Soccer is actually played outside throughout the year except for two months in many clubs/levels. The weather is comparable to Conn/Mass. In the US. Most clubs have turf/heated fields for winter play.

Denmark is playing SO shaky.

Who cares? This isn't the NBA where is basically a reality show about a few individuals. The Messi/Ronaldo thing has always been lame.

Pretty harmless comment by dep. I’d imagine a lot of people care though. People can consume the game as they choose
Nice matchup here

Croatia and Nigeria both underrated teams capable of maybe a quarterfinal appearance
