Odell says he will be at TC.

Nysportsfn13 : 6/16/2018 12:42 pm
Got in two questions to Odell as he was carted away: Will we see you at camp? “Yes sir. Yes you will,” he said. So no holdout? “No. No holdout.” - Vacciano

At end of camp, Odell Beckham Jr passed reporters & when @RVacchianoSNY asked if we’ll see him at training camp, OBJ said: “Yes, sir. Yes you will.” #NYG - kim jones

Its a shame but he (and players all over the league in his situation) have very little leverage coming off injury.

I suspect that rumors of OBJ buying an insurance policy for injury are correct.

Nothing. He was at an event and was leaving.
He's going to have a MONSTER year
Big Rick in FL : 6/16/2018 1:35 pm : link
Probably lead the NFL in yards and TDs. It's the first time in his career he's played in a real offense. It's the first time in his career he's had a TE that needs to be accounted for. Also the first time in his career the opposing defense has to gameplan for our running game. Should leave tons of space for Odell to run free.

The Vikings had the 10th ranked offense in the NFL last year. They averaged 24 points a game with a career backup starting at QB (Keenum). Two average RBs (Murray & McKinnon). There top 3 WRs were basically nobodies coming out of college. One was undrafted (Thielen). The other two were 4th and 5th round picks (Diggs & Wright. Plus a guy who many consider a 1st round (Treadwell). Very impressive when you see what he did with a bunch of average talent.

Now just imagine what he can do with a 2X SB Champ/MVP/HOFer at QB. A WR whose well on his way to the HOF. A RB who many consider the best RB prospect in 15+ years. A 1st round TE who should've been a Pro Bowler as a rookie and a 2nd round WR whose been a stud ever since he got to NY.

Barring injuries, we should have a top 10 offense, maybe top 5.

The smart move is to hold out. And as much as I don’t like OBJ’s antics, I would not hold that against him.

It’s just good business.

Or not, both sides might want to wait. Giants want to make sure he’s healthy and that ankle doesn’t linger. And Odell wants to prove he’s 100% and the best WR in the league. And if Odell got an insurance policy he has no reason to sign now.
Just having an insurance policy isn't enough
Jim in Tampa : 6/16/2018 4:42 pm : link
One possibility is that the Giants have spoken to OBJ's rep and told him that if Odell reports to camp AND he looks fully-healed in workouts that they can expect a contract offer of $XX for X years. In other words, a framework of a deal could be in place.

Odell then simply gets an insurance policy to cover the time between workouts and contract negotiation.

If no such deal framework had been discussed, then Odell would be foolish to report to camp, even with an insurance policy.

He has a contract. He can also be tagged after this year. Not sure what business you are in but the guy has no leverage right now. He basically did not play all last year and is fighting a lot of negative perceptions out there.

What do you think he would be worth after missing a season due to injury and then following it up with another missed season due to a hold out?

The best thing for him is to come in, STFU and lead the league in virtually all WR statistics.

He has plenty of leverage. Franchising a superstar doesn’t look good for the team and can really hurt free agency. It’s also expensive and you can’t move that money around. Odell is arguably the best WR in the NFL. In two years he could be even better and the price for WRs isn’t going to go down. The Giants want him and he wants to be here. They probably have something in place.
No doubt these elite NFL WRs can be a royal pain in the ass
Jimmy Googs : 6/16/2018 5:43 pm : link
but OBJ is the goods. Watching us play Offense without him on the field is painful.

Subject to a successful training camp and showing everyone he is fully recovered, I look for the Giants to lock him up with a nice contract before first game of the 2018 season...
I don't agree
old man : 6/16/2018 6:07 pm : link
That he will have a MONSTER year, because in a sufficiently productive Shurmur/Shula offense the ball will get to everybody. That said, as the game and season progress every catch he makes based on his skill level will be more significant in producing points, and we'll appreciate him even more. He makes putting up 24+ into 34+.

Shurmur also hasn’t had anyone close the caliber of player as Beckham. We will be more balanced, but Beckham will be featured plenty and will have every opportunity to have a monster season. Hopefully he moves around more and gets more single coverage.
I disagree. A productive offense tells me we sustaining drives

scoring points, running it well and throwing it well. All those things increase the amount of plays/chances for everybody including OBJ.

Bottom line is if he can be as good as he was over the past few years with our shitty offense, he will have a super year in a good one. He's too explosive not to...

Not much is gained by holding out of training camp and the daily fines are nothing to sneeze at. He is much better served by going to camp, proving he is 100% while they take it easy on him in practice and use him only sparingly in preseason games. And it will be seen as a sign of good will and maturity that will have the fans on his side when he decides just a week before the regular season is starting that the Giants have left him no other choice but to hold out (as much as he didn't want it to come to that).

Those fines are at the whim of the team. They're optional. They don't have to fine him at all, and most teams don't do that when the contract process isn't ugly, in the interest of maintaining a workable relationship with the player. He showed good faith by doing what they asked and appearing at the voluntaries when he didn't have to, so it doesn't appear to be a negative relationship.

The right time to hold out if this hasn't been settled, I agree, is the moment the higher risk of injury starts. So full contact practices and preseason games.

Adam Thielen had 91 catches for 1264 yards last year in Shurmur's offense. You don't think a healthy Beckham exceeds those numbers?

You seem awfully offended for someone that wasn’t even labeled in this post. Did he say YOU were a hater? If you’ve been paying attention, there is a segment of fans on this very site that have proudly proclaimed to be members of the “anti Beckham” club. It is one thing to criticize Beckham, it’s a completely different animal when you claim to be president of the hate club, which posters here have absdone. Which is hysterical considering just about everyone that takes this stance are absolute failures at life. Miserable fucks that somehow put athletes on a different expectation level than they put themselves. I fucking guarantee that every poster on this site has done dumber shit than Beckham has, yet the little sheep read something in the NY Post and decide they must be offended. They believe everything they read and think that if they buy into the hate hype, it somehow makes them unbiased fans, or more sensible fans. What it actually makes them is spineless, insincere fake tough guys that hold people to standards that they don’t even hold themselves to.

Now, is that you? You’ll have to answer that question to yourself. Nobody else put you in that category.

I listed the players a few days ago who have been hurt in training camp. And many in routine, non-contact drills. See Teddy Bridgewater.

So for a guy coming off a significant lower leg injury, the very last I would do is expose myself to ANY field work unless I have a contract with big, guaranteed cash. That is actually the mature thing to do.

Frankly, I'm stunned Team OBJ have allowed him to get this far by getting into pads and showing up for work. There is just too much money at stake.

I'm very pro-player in these situations even if the player is a jerk off like OBJ. The NFL has been taking advantage of players with these bullsh-t contracts for 20 years. Time for the players to really wise up and show bigger, better spine.

Think, bottom line, is that OBJ loves the game
