I think on metsmezmerized that drew smith has been touching 100 mph recently. Is that true? Could we see him up in bigs soon?

Here is your Kingsport Mets opening day roster. Matt Foley had been scheduled to be here, but hes joining Brooklyn, meaning the outlook on Juan Uriarte cant be too good.

interesting talent down there then the upper minors but I'm less over the moon about it than Shecky. Def more guys who are worth monitoring.

I have not seen that, I find it hard to believe that wasn't a hot gun

due respect but articles from Metsblogs are always slanted to the positive. If I say Rosario has been disappointing or Lindsay has been disappointing I almost immediately hear from Michael Mayer and/or Ernest Dove. Both are fantastic at what they do but I can't think of a Mets site that doesn't sway strongly to the positive.
I
DanMetroMan : 6/18/2018 10:51 am : link
don't believe that to be accurate. The article implies he's routinely done that "and has been hitting 100 mph down in Triple-A. Smith has excellent stuff and could be an important factor in the bullpen in the near term." he's probably confusing Smith with Hanhold who has in fact registered a few triple digit readings.
has there been a good overall 2018 draft review?
Eric on Li : 6/18/2018 10:52 am : link
I haven't seen anything beyond a blurb from Law.

pjcas18 : 6/18/2018 10:55 am : link
is that still the same Kenny Hernandez (Kingsport roster) the Mets signed as one of their headline IFA's a few years ago?

Hasn't really panned out if that's still him. He must still be young though.

Same Kenny Hernandez. Both he and Guerrero received major bonuses but to this point have been really underwhelming. Hernandez sort of has to hit now or never. Yeah he's "only" going to be 20 in August but has a .546 OPS over 131 career games at the lowest levels of the minors. He has no chance sticking at SS so the bat has to play. You don't hear any buzz regarding him anymore. Probably a lost cause.
I don't mind that miss
pjcas18 : 6/18/2018 11:17 am : link
on Hernandez, it has to be tough to project kids that young and IIRC he was highly regarded.

I like the HR swings with guys like Mauricio and Rosario, Hernandez (if that's what he was) etc. I'd like better scouting of course, but no one has it down to a science IMO what a 16 year old kid is going to be like athletically at 22+ (at least how I view it).

Sucks he didn't work out, but no complaints from me.

GCL Mets first 2018 lineup

Jhoander Saez CF
Ronny Mauricio SS
Stanley Consuegra RF
Cristopher Pujols 3B
Wilmer Reyes LF
Robby Kidwell DH
Anderson Bohorquez 1B
Jose Mena C
Sebastian Espino 2B

I think Conseguera was a relatively high $$ signing.

500k I believe, which IMO even if not top 30 counts as a big deal.

Consuegra and Mauricio are the gems there. I'm disappointed Hernandez didn't flash enough to be in the GCL as well, Maybe later in the season.

day DL for Guerrero so sounds like a lost season.
Rosenthal
DanMetroMan : 6/18/2018 12:20 pm : link
Mets are ready to entertain trade offers for virtually everyone on their roster, according to sources, but prefer to keep their best, controllable players outfielders Nimmo and Conforto, right-handers Lugo and Gsellman and yes, staff ace deGrom.
Its weird
CMicks3110 : 6/18/2018 12:26 pm : link
But I feel like we shouldnt rebuild. On paper we have a decent core to build around. If we could add a machado type and players stayed healthy we should be good. On paper at least.

So really who does that leave (that could have even a tiny bit of value)?

Cabrera
Familia
Reyes
Frazier
Bruce
Cespedes
Blevins
Ramos
Flores

and all the catchers?

who is realistic of them to be traded?

Familia
Cabrera

anyone else?

0% chance the Mets are in on Machado.

Cmon Dan, more like a 1% chance maybe? Mets could add Machado and still have a payroll in the 8-13 range.

Goes beyond payroll. Sandy despises megadeals. The Mets would have to suddenly change their whole philosophy while also outbidding every other teams.

Trade with the Yankees
Pete44 : 6/18/2018 1:53 pm : link
I know it is not going to happen, but would Met fans make the following deal:

Frazier, Sheffield, Andujar and 2 A Pitchers for Syndegaard.

Most Met fans won't do it, but the non-yankee/met fans think the Mets would be crazy not too. Always an interesting debate.

If the two pitchers are Loaisgna and Adams, we might have some traction. For two random single A ball pitchers, I'd rather hold on to DeGrom and try to build around him.

Nimmo

playing the closest thing to a home game he'll ever play, has 75 friends and family in the house leads off the game with a "stand up" inside the park HR.

Dude is fun to watch.

Nimmo's breakout is really awesome
Eric on Li : 6/18/2018 9:58 pm : link
he and Conforto are truly well rounded players who can be building blocks (hopefully Rosario establishes himself in that category too).

I know it's a contrarian opinion, but I really think Sandy's early picks (and bigger $ IFA's) have been pretty impressive. If you compare the number of homegrown regulars on this current team they stack up with all the better rosters they've fielded in 3 decades. Alfonzo was basically the only homegrown guy worth anything on the late 90's/early 00's teams. Reyes and Wright were basically the only 2 on the 06 team.

It's just too bad the 1 major prospect he's dealt away happened to be Fulmer and not someone who busted like Montero.

No, but the fact that you even have to think about it is all you need to know.
It's Nimmo's world, we're just living in it

great example for Rosario/Smith/Plawecki/Cecchini, etc. of how sometimes it just takes time to develop. Kudos to him for working hard and sticking with it.
Is there a position Flores fields well?
