It's going to be interesting to see how many new faces are on this team in September. I bet you at least a few players are not even on the roster yet.
We don't have great cap space so I'm not sure we'll have many new veteran faces. I do believe we'll have a fairly young team though.
And depending upon how guys play this year, there are some veteran cuts we can make next year that would open up major cap space. But I'll wait until next year to talk about those possibilities, the chief guy being Eli himself if he doesn't play up to snuff (I think he'll be great this year...)
I'm not so sure about that. Despite the question marks they seem set at QB. The season will show how much of Eli's bad year was due to working with the #3, 4 & 5 WRs for most of the year with a porous OL and how much was due to declining with age. And I think the 2 backups, unproven but with potential, are already on the roster.
Barring injuries I see nobody coming in at TE or RB. Perhaps an experienced backup on the OL and a #3 WR. On defense I could see adding depth on the DL along with a CB who could see significant playing time. I don't see significant moves at S or LB.
So while there could be some changes I don't believe they will be wholesale.
njm... I could see us making a move or two on the OL still... they obviously want to move on from Jerry. The center position is still a concern too.
I could pick-ups at S, CB, OL, LB, WR. Heck even kicker.
Jerry is a guy you likely don't want starting so it will be interesting to see if the Giants do get someone who could upgrade during the pre-season (likely after cuts).
Eli never had a quick release or a rocket for an arm Â
and was never mobile. In the early days, he threw off his back foot far too frequently, leading to interceptions. In his middle years, he ceased doing this and learned how to move within the pocket to avoid sacks. In his later years, he slowed down even more. This, coupled with a porous offensive line, led to an embarrassing offense. I never considered Eli an elite quarterback, his two SB MVP's and career numbers notwithstanding. I always thought that Acorsi erred by not drafting Roethlisberger. All this said, I agree that Eli should be given an opportunity to lead the Giants this year, given the new offensive line and offensive weapons. Without having seen much of either, I think Webb is superior to Lauletta in terms of arm strength and accuracy. I'm still not sure why the Giants drafted Lauletta, unless they think they can some day trade him for higher than a fourth, the round in which they drafted him.
see where they would add more veterans. Not even at DB.
They already have vet backups at o-line, DB, even d-line. You can’t build long term depth and develop players if you keep bringing veterans in on one-year or two-year deals.

I think you are overestimating the quality of some of the veterans on this roster.
His total cap hit for this year is $3.6 million. That's a pretty big hit for a back-up guard.
According to OTC, the Giants save a million if they cut him. If the Giants can find a better player for a million dollars, great. I just don’t think it’s realistic.

I do believe we could pull the trigger in the supplemental draft? Thoughts?

Agreed. We have the #2 waiver wire claim, and I bet we use it after final cuts to get a few veterans.

We could use the cap space.

He’s on the last year of his deal and he’s making 1 million. Cutting him won’t provide much salary cap relief.

We're about $7 million under right now so another million here or there will make a big difference.
