PFF NY Gianta @PFF_Giants
#Giants safety Andrew Adams looks like the early favorite to start opposite of Landon Collins this season.
@AndrewAdams33 held opponents to 7.4 yards per reception in his coverage last season, tied for 9th best among 89 #NFL safeties.

He could start, but without Thompson being able to practice, this is just silly.
I disagree with your assessment. Thompson's play did come on in December, I agree he didn't start the year playing all that well. But it was functionally his rookie year. If he's healthy I think he has the most upside.
Adams only played 25% of defensive snaps. He played when Collins was hurt or when three safeties were deployed.
Expecting Adams to take a position from Thompson that Adams never played last year is, at this point, a stretch.
Surprisingly, Thompson did not look sharp either in 2017 coming back from rookie injury...way to slow/reactive in support and not around anywhere making plays. Another year like that and he will be labeled "jag".
Two things AA did better in '16 than DT in '17 were tackling soundly, and taking good angles of pursuit to the football. In these aspects, DT was horrendous and needs to clean it up or he won't be back there long.
Adams' play in 2016 caused him to fall out of favor at the end of the year, losing snaps to Leon Hall. In the playoff game vs GB, Adams hardly got on the field and Hall played 100%.
Then Spagnuolo only wanted Adams out there 25% of snaps last year.
I've been critical of Thompson's play in 2017 myself but I'm skeptical of Adams as any real improvement.
I know my expectations were too high. He sure looked like a player to me but it was in limited time. Beware next time...
Well we know Thompson with his 4.7 speed is not fast enough.
Thompson showed good ability to break to the ball but havent seen him man up very well. Maybe he is just a sub package guy but he does flash the ability to react to the ball in the air better then most of the dbs we have or have had in recent history
Sometimes, a guy's college performance does not translate to the NFL, and that may be the case with DT--what a surprise from the departed regime.
should be an open competition
