There you go, Hicks! He's the one guy who seems to still be hitting right now.
Didi seems to be coming back around too. It'll be good for him to get back to the Stadium for the next three and hopefully pick it up another notch or two.

Need a shutdown inning from Sonny here.
Yup - Didi has been getting back on track too.
Gary is showing signs but still having some pretty poor AB's in between. I still think he'll be fine, just has to work his way out of it.
Got the Road Gray tonight thankfully - huge K to get Harper.
Stanton stays so far off the plate just to chase pitches off the plate inside. If you’re going to give those strikes away, get closer to the plate so you can at least cover the outer half.
I’m not quite panicking about his numbers, but I dislike his approach.

Seems to me he's that far off the plate to get to those inside pitches. It's the down and away ones he can't reach and needs to lay off IMO. Either that or just punch them into RF. They're giving him the whole right side of the damn infield.

Stanton’s splits vs lefties/righties so far this season (through yesterday) are remarkable:
Vs L: .333/.378/.773, 8 HR in 74 PA
Vs R: .212/.300/.378, 8 HR in 224 PA
The closed stance worked for him last year, to the tune of an MVP season, so it’s hard to argue for him to change it..but it really does seem to be working against him against righties up to this point this year.
I remain confident he’ll find his groove and treat us to a hot streak this summer...but I agree his approach just seems so off sometimes.
Over his career, Stanton’s always hit lefties a lot more than righties, career OPS is 150 pts higher vs. lefties, but he still has a lifetime .870 OPS vs righties.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. You stay far off the plate so that you get your arms extended even on the inside strike, i.e. you don’t want the ball inside on you. That way, anything that looks remotely like it’s more inside than you like it is a ball.
Stanton is chasing pitches 4-6 inches off the plate inside, regularly.

I don't like the approach either but I think he likes the ball inside and wants to pull. He can't get to the inside pitch with the barrel if he crowds the plate, so he stands off the plate trying to barrel them up.
Problem is he's missing those pitches, and also swinging at some too far in off the plate and then compounding it by not reaching the down and away outside pitch either.
I agree there's no question he's swinging at pitches too inside
He's been a big surprise this year for me no doubt. He's been great all year and that inning was really impressive. Huge spot for the team and he comes through big time.
I liked the emotion he showed too. Guy knew it was big and he was fired up to get it done.
He needs to get back to that. I'm starting to think he's been chasing because of some ump's missing pitches and him getting so many balls called strikes. Leads the league in that and it's not even close.
For the most part he's been fine vs lefties. It's righties who he's struggled against and has looked really off too many times.
Here's hoping tonight just gets him going in the right direction. Three hits no matter who they're against has got to help the confidence.
Yeah, he had a year like this against RHP in 2016 too where he just kinda struggled most of the year.
More often than not, he's finished up with very solid numbers vs. RHP (obviously his big money is being made vs. lefties) so I think odds are he'll be fine. Hits are hits like you said - good to see either way, because that extra run will help.
Bullpen continues to be ridiculous. Game MVP = Holder
It was. But it's also nice to have 99's height in right to pull that last one in.
For sure, that was a hold your breath fly ball - looked like Turner may have got enough off the bat, yikes. Could have at least been a 2 run double if not for Judge
RE: Gutsy save by Chapman, when he didn’t have his best command Â
an off day, and have Seattle coming in tomorrow night having used pretty much all our relievers today/tonight. Seattle is really playing well, this could be a preview of a playoff series.

Agreed and why I thought Boone would go with a long reliever in the suspended game or use a call up spot starter. If he wasn't going to use Cole there why is he even on the team?
When I heard him on the pregame say Greeney and a bullpen game I thought Why? First guess and I said it the other day too, so not a hindsight thing after the HR and loss.
yeah, I don't generally second-guess Boone as I think he's Â
done a good job, but I take your point on that. We used our top 6 relievers today/tonight and just have Cole and Shreve for tomorrow night, unless someone gets on the Scranton shuttle (which they might). And this is with German starting, who's been pretty good but he's not a lock to give you more than 5 innings.

Yeah I'm with you there. I think he's done a good job too and have wondered about a few things but nothing major. He's a first year guy,the team is playing well and I figure he knows his team better than I do.
The one area I have questioned though is his use of the pen. While he deserves credit for his faith in Holder, and his move away (finally) from using Betances for two innings, I wonder about his use of some others. Again, nothing major and I guess I'm still used to how Girardi took care of his relievers and seemed to be a master at using the pen.
Hopefully German gives them a good 6+ strong tomorrow, and they can piece together the rest. A breakout game by the O wouldn't hurt either.

This assumes they can't pitch 2 days in a row, I'm sure some of them will unless there's a blowout either way.

True but it's not so much that as it is they've been used a lot recently plus today was supposed to be an off day. Combine that with two rookies starting the next two games and nine more games in a row without a day off coming up.
I would've preferred a spot starter or long guy in the suspended game but I'm thinking they know better than I do.

To gray and the bullpen. Got scary at times but he got the win. Now we have german tonight against Seattle it will be tough, but again Yankee offense needs to wake up and score for these guys

Holder is impressive. That’s a huge escape.
Holder held 'em. Great getting out of a real hole.

Great pitching particularly Holder and Betances.

Yup.
2nd star to Hicks, 3rd to Stanton and a big honorable mention to Judge for a couple of really great plays in the field.
