It was right in front of him and he obviously read it as going to drop in. I sort of did too but it hung up more than I thought it was going to, and Sotomwas in good position as well.

being allowed to play in this game is absolutely absurd.
It's annoying, but I don't know how the logistics would work if the rule was that anyone not on the roster that day couldn't play in this game. Because there would be cases where the player involved in the corresponding roster transaction was either no longer on the team or injured - which would then leave the team a player short, and in some cases, it could easily be more than one player.
So, I guess you could just say the team has to deal with it, but it would probably cause issues at some juncture because of that. I don't know how it would work otherwise.

The same way a team has to deal with it if they have 3-4 guys get hurt in the same game. Use what you have. You dont get to call in guys in the middle of it if someone gets hurt
Cannot believe that Bird is that slow. He is a total liability on the bases. Changes the whole dimension of the game.
Yeah, you'd think with two outs he's off on the crack of the bat.
Normally there I lean towards sending him with two outs but combined with his lack of speed, the CF getting the ball just as Bird reached 3rd and the top of the order coming up, I can see why he was held. I can't really 2nd guess or criticize the hold there even though I wanted him sent.
They'd probably prefer not to make teams play shorthanded if it's avoidable. This is such a rare scenario that I can't really let myself get that bent out of shape over it.
If it was the other way around and Torres wasn't up before the suspended game, I doubt anyone would care that he was allowed to play today or apologize for it.

Absolutely cannot send him unless the ball is down the line or in the gap.
Too many guys expecting strikes with hitter's/full counts.
Approach certainly needs to be better. Stanton just looks sort of awkward right now. He doesn't seem completely comfortable with his stance. I'm sure he'll get going - but he's got to keep playing so he can work out the kinks.
There you go, Hicks! He's the one guy who seems to still be hitting right now.
Didi seems to be coming back around too. It'll be good for him to get back to the Stadium for the next three and hopefully pick it up another notch or two.

Need a shutdown inning from Sonny here.
Yup - Didi has been getting back on track too.
Gary is showing signs but still having some pretty poor AB's in between. I still think he'll be fine, just has to work his way out of it.
Got the Road Gray tonight thankfully - huge K to get Harper.
Protest. Write to the league.
I don't think that would work.
When Soto was called up, they also called up a SS and they sent two players down (Jefrey Rodriguez and Moises Sierra)
I believe Rodriguez is actually starting for them tomorrow.
If that was the rule, teams would often have to resume suspended games with short benches/bullpens because the logistics wouldn't work out.
He came in as a pinch hitter

on the team when this game started. How is he playing? If there was an injury, it should have had to be someone else who was on the team, then.

No he didn't. The game was played before he was called up.

He's going to best a lot of teams. He's been doing it since he was called up. Look at his numbers. He's absolutely phenomenal.
I can't stand the Nationals, but he's one of the most exciting players in the entire sport right now and he's 19 freaking years old.
Fuck off, mush

Just a bad read IMO.
I saw that. Nice to see him back in the org.

Yeah, bad read. I thought that was in too.

Nats put two players on the DL after that date. They can replace them.

Also that Soto homerun was insane. What a bomb
Well, then you wouldn't have had that run on the board now. :)

Stanton is playing of in the 2nd game. I would have played Faazier instead.

Yup. These guys have to play to work out of it. They've got too much talent to keep struggling.
My only gripe right now is pitch selection. Swing at strikes, work pitchers and take the walks if they're giving them to you.

Exactly, a successful player is gonna make out 7 out of 10 times. However, swing at ball 4 that was a ball from the beginning is not good.
