Being able to only connect on 50% of your kicks from 30-49 yards out is a real concern (7 out of 14). Although he did display a real strong leg on kickoffs and connected on all three of his 50+ yard kicks.
and I'm glad he had his rough patches while playing in such a shitty season. I think he probably could grow from the experience. On the flip side, he will be on a much shorter leash this year. I prefer to keep him, if he earns it, since he will be cost controlled.
RELY on your kicker, or else you need to be able to have field play for 4 downs.
He better be better than 50%. The new rules pretty much reduce the kickoff emphasis, and if he's 50% the 30-49, that means his 33yd PATs are also shaky, and they were last year.
He wasn't Blair Walsh bad, but he wasnt a whole lot better.
Hopefully the rookie jitters were the cause. He needs lots of competition.
Some people talked about his amazing kicking ability, and he didn’t do that terrible last year. I’d love to see another year of him and see how he does. We can always pick up another kicker
have a strong head than a strong leg. He seemed to miss a majority of his kicks towards the end of close games. Tells me he may not be able to handle the pressure.
I'm rooting for him, other guys have come back from poor starts to their kicking careers, but I am very skeptical of his ability to be a consistent weapon in big moments.
Just gonna say that Matt Stover was sketchy for 3 years Â

Agreed, well said. Lawrence Tynes was the best imo. I loved him. Josh Brown was a complete stud kicker but he turned out to be a degenerate apparently and made the whole organization look like shit for a couple weeks.
I guess I'd let Rojas get another crack at it, but we need the best vet available to compete if Rojas still sucks if we wanna compete this year for another Lombardi. Will need that new Lawrence Tynes

Then again, Adam Vinatieri and a host of other greats were a ~70% kickers very early.

Lawrence Tynes was a 77% kicker after three years.
I'd like to see what he learned from last year. The talent is there but he has to get better.
Kickers are the emotional barometer of a team- if they're on a good team they'll generally kick well. He was a rookie and last year's team was dreadful so he gets a pass.
so be it. I trust the coaches to judge whether he's shown enough development over last year to warrant keeping the job. But obviously he needs to earn it - his 2017 performance was unacceptable.
I would let him compete in camp. But, the job is there for him to win not his to lose. I think the coaches also know that.
His only competition on the roster is a rookie UDFA. I don't believe. If this is the training camp battle it'd be a pretty big upset.
It doesn't really matter what kickers are battling in the NY Giants' training camp, because they can always get a kicker that showed well in another camp.
It appears to be a clean slate for a lot of players this year Â
why not Rosas, too? If he earns it this summer, then I would be happy to see him return as the Giants' kicker. I think he would be a on short leash though.
looked all that great in preseason, so I was very skeptical. The generational leg crap must have been like Matt Dodge. You NEVER saw it on game day, or it was few and too far between.
His kicks don't get the height, nor the end-over-end you usually see......he does kick some knucklers too.
He gets an invite to camp, but he's got to be VERY good to make the 2018 Giants.
Mike Nugent again. That is what is out there. It's so easy for a fan to say dump Rosas and get a better kicker but there aren't any. That is why the Giants will try and develop a kicker.
The Giants are serious about contending this year and they need to find a kicker who has been there and done that in pressure situations. Anyone here have any confidence in Rosas making a big kick outside 35 years?
I don't care if he returns or not, but I don't think last year was enough to judge. Bring him to camp, but give him competition. We need to see that generational leg and real accuracy. If so, maybe he gets another chance. If not, not. Even if so, I'd be quick to replace him.
I really don't see the strong leg. Almost zero touchbacks last year. I think he had one or two. Just pathetic. Every long kick barely over the crossbar. Plus the blocks. He's gotta go.
as long as he isn't terrible? If Rosas turns out to be a good kicker this year, then great. If they have to sign somebody else that is better than Rosas, then great. It's not like we have an emotional attachment to Rosas. As long as they have a kicker they can count on I don't care who it is.

Well, he only attempted 25 kicks all season. And he was 3/3 on 50+ (50, 51, and 52 yards)
He had the second worst touchback % in the league.
He had multiple out of bounds kick offs. He was responsible for multiple losses.
By any measure he was the worst regular kicker in the league.
We would be fools to rely on him.
The Giants will clearly give Rosas training camp and the preseason to try to stick but unless he is basically flawless he will be replaced by a veteran before the season starts. The Giants won't risk their season on another poor year by Rosas.
Solid playoff experience. Also is very hip w the modern socially accepted norms & Doesn’t take any crap from star players. Veteran NFL kicker w playoff experience - ( New Window )

TTH - if Rosas is sucking up the joint, they will find someone, either from another team or somewhere??? I hope! .... I didn't realize the competition was that thin to tell you the truth but, I wouldn't be surprised if they had another kicker or 2 signed or invited to TC before it starts.
Dump him. Id rather a blind mule kick for us.

Yes, I hope he wins the job and kicks this year.

Not many players left? You could make an argument that Engram would be playing alone.
