shout out to Hakeem Nicks

Peak Nicks wasn't long, but to me, that was probably the best WR we've had here other than Beckham. Burress is the only guy I'd say you could make an argument for otherwise.

I'd even take peak Nicks over peak Cruz.

He's atleast top 5 for sure but easily my favorite WR including Odell and I love Odell but Nicks was such a stud in the playoffs like you said and that matters. Before the injury against Tampa Bay he was on track for special things, injuries sapped ALL of his legs of any juice way too early but atleast we saw his greatness for a few years.

Plus he shared the ball and was the opposite of a diva WR (up until his injury he changed a bit mentally and I understand because Cruz got his $ before he did and now he was hurt )

Burress is likely 3rd. He dropped quite a few balls. Nicks with his giant mitts, did not. Nicks was great for the short time we had him.

Hakeem Hicks. Beastly in that Superbowl run.

Nicks was stronger and maybe even a little better but Cruz was more charismatic and had the Jet play and the touchdown dance. So he was a little more "famous". But the two of them and JPP were pretty much the only help Eli had in 2001. That Super Bowl was quite unlikely.

Two of my favorite Giants players ever wore 88... Hilliard and Nicks. Hopefully Engram has better luck.

Summerall was obviously way before my time.

Chris Hudson is who I think you're thinking of - the Jags DB.

Dawkins also speared him later in his career right in the chest helmet first when he was defenseless as only Brian fucking Dawkins could.

Obviously the injuries really held his career back - but he still carved out a pretty good one all things considered.

Ah yes, I'd be remiss not to mention 4th and 17 Bobby Johnson as well.

how many people were ready to just rip his name to shreds in 2013. And the guy had a terrible medical condition.

Dude was an absolute beast.

Hilliard slid to catch a pass and Hudson kneed him in the back of the head.

I don't often get super worked up but that Hudson hit really pissed me off. It's Ike's 2nd game of his career. I do remember that Dawkins hit. If I was at the stadium that day with my Mac-90 (think semi-auto ak-47) I'd have taken that SOB out right then and there.

does nicks get, as you say, "little credit" for the 2011 SB run and win? sofar as i can tell, he was and is universally loved around here. he's definitely one of my favorite giants, even with only having a 4-year career..

was the best young wide receiver I'd ever seen on the Giants, and I've been watching since 1970. I said he had Hall of Fame potential. (And somebody accused me of being a homer.)

Beckham is better than Nicks, but yes, at his peak Hakeem Nicks was a terrific player. He never did reach that HoF potential, for various reasons, but for a short time, he looked like he was on his way. He should still be playing.

Steve Smith too. Damn shame.

Averaged 7 rec, 111 yds, 1 TD per game in the 4 postseason games following the 2011 season. Absolutely beastly production in the clutch.

Nicks had the fourth-most receiving yardage through his age 23 season in NFL history, behind only Fitz, Moss, and David Boston. He has since been passed by Mike Evans and DeAndre Hopkins and is now 6th all time. He's got Odell by 300 yards......but in 15 more games than Odell, as Odell was a year older than Nicks as a rookie.

When you go to Nicks Wikipedia site, the main picture of him is in a Colts uniform. Wish there was a way to change it to one of him in a Giants uniform.

I've ever seen. He was absolute beast from his rookie year until week 2 of 2012 when he got hurt against Tampa after putting up a monster game. Posting the link to that game. He roasted Aqib Talib that day. Injuries took their toll quick.

He was an interesting receiver. Not that quick twitch, explosive guy that Beckham is where he creates a ton of space with his route running and change of direction. He was more of a physical presence with a large catch radius and tremendous ball skills and great hands. He'd have defenders draped all over him and he'd come down with the ball. One of my favorite Giants.

I always felt badly that he didn't make it to a second contract and a big pay day.

what injuries did to this trio. That 2011 passing game was awesome.

a number of amazing catches/runs that offseason. he was definitely a guy who played above the xs and os. in his rookie year against KC he took a wide receiver screen that looked like it would go maybe 5 yards and he explosively burst by and past chiefs defenders for a 50 yard TD. damn shame that compartment syndrome ended what was shaping up to be a promising career.

was Nicks' diagnosed medical injury. Was it a knee, back, hip? Was it definitively caused by a traumatic hit, or was it deterioration?

from injuries - Nicks, Cruz, Smith, Manningham. Nicks was a great asset to the team and a Super Bowl champion.

He just couldn't stay healthy.

I don’t recall anyone on here giving HN “little credit” for the ‘11 run..Later on, many of us were erroneous in thinking Nicks was dogging it, but for ‘11, he was given full credit by most, if not all, of us..

Agree. Heck, even Tom Coughlin benched him for a critical game vs. Cowboys. TC thought he was milking an injury.

There have been some great playoff performances by wide receivers in my lifetime...Swann, Stallworth, Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, and Fitzgerald.

Other than maybe Fitz, I put Nicks' 2011 playoff games up there with the best of them...

this is correct. And not lost in this ironically is a lot of these folks are the biggest defender of our favorite topic of discussion around here.....

to lose the defense from early on. Somehow he would get wide open down the field with no one even around him. It was crazy. Him and Cruz were deadly. Whichever one you took away, the other would kill you. Injuries suck.

but faded fast because of injury issues, Hope this is not OBJ''s future as well, WR is a position that does not hold value after 4/5 years, They are small vulnerable targets of the defense. Hope I am wrong.
