On the mound, Johnny Lasagna faces off against the greatly diminished King Felix
Boone said last night that when Gardner is healthy he leads off against righties. Frazier would then sit. The lineup might be better with Gardy in there.
No thanks to dealing for the Hamels of the world I'd rather target high upside guys not working out at their current teams that are cost controlled. Hopefully not another Sonny Gray but I'm fine with gambling on pedigree

None of the pitchers you have listed are worth the Yanks considering trading a lesser prospect like Wade for, let alone Frazier.
I would much rather leave German in the rotation, and if another injury occurs, let Loaisiga and Sheffield battle it out to fill the spot.
The vast majority of the Yanks recent success has stemmed from trusting their own prospects to get the job done. Except for Wade, that faith has been rewarded- in vast amounts more than anyone anticipated.
Now it is time to trust the Yanks SP prospects to get the job done instead of making a panic trade because the guy is a "name." German has justified the faith put in him. Loaisiga probably needs another 3-5 starts to earn it- but if he doesn't, let Sheffield get his turn instead of looking at a guy who won't move the post-season needle.

If Frazier shows hes contributing at the ML level and already shows he owns triple A...he can be a centerpiece for a SP. Not a rental like JA Happ but maybe a lefty like Danny Duffy from the revuilding Royals or a high upside arm like Taillon/Glasnow from the Pirates that the Yankees brass can fix up. Also a big fan of Jon Gray if we can get him away from Coors.

Totally agree. A lot are concerned about the post season. Yet last year the offense was the problem. Plus, is Happ better than German. Who knows. How about waiting a few more weeks at least. On the MKS they were talking about what Houston did last year getting Verlander. The problem is there isn't a Verlander available this year. I don't see the Mets getting rid of Degrom or the Giants getting rid of Bamgaudner. Every day he else is pretty much a lateral move and your giving up prospects.
p.s.--All these years I've been flushing my warm piss down the toilet! I had no idea I could get something in return for it.
Domingo German already very good? - ( New Window )
Oh, wow! I even get a welcome photo. Thanks!
It's Lasagna night - let's go!
I agree that he's looked excellent lately, but we'd be foolish to assume that will continue into his next start, let alone for the rest of the season. If it does, that's great. But Cashman should be preparing for all possible contingencies.

You can't teach speed and you pretty much can't teach stuff. Looking at how German's ball dances, it is just a matter of him commanding it. I hope he continues to drink Sevy's koolaid.

In fact, he seems to be improving each time out. Maybe he is getting comfortable. Maybe Rothschild is teaching better mechanics. Whatever it is, he seems to be getting a grasp of what a MLB does. He was just so smooth last night. It was effortless.
I still think they need to make a move for a hamels or happ. obviously im taking thor, degrom, bumg over them and that would be my first two calls
He's also gone 6 or more in each of his last 4 starts.
I want to see how he continues to progress - I agree no one can assume he will just keep getting better by default, but something definitely looks like it's clicking. The whiff rate is elite right now.
There's definitely something there.
Hot garbage...hope this isn't a WTF night.
Double Lasagna!
He looks good.
It's right up there with another man's fries - ( New Window )
Yeah, he definitely should've gotten to 2nd. Judge with a bad read but did a good enough job in the rundown for Didi to get to 2nd.
Just saved 2 runs.
@RailRidersTT
Anyelo Gomez will undergo shoulder surgery soon. Done for the season.
Yup. Really bad. Balls that should have been strikes. Balls called strikes that weren't strikes. And the zone just isn't consistent.
Somewhat true. But Lasagna has nothing tonight. Cannot throw a strike.

ok give shef his shot haha....deadline is rapidly approaching
Like Tyler Clippard he has worn out his welcome........
Same here. I have zero confidence in him but had my fingers crossed maybe I'd be wrong. Nope, he serves up a cookie on 3-2 to a lefty who his only job is to get out.
Got a big hill to climb now.
Felix has been fairly awful this year. No reason not to put some runs on the board.
Indeed. Shreve is trash.
Just read up on that Mets Rockies thread. I love arc as a poster. But there HAS to be some sort of initiation or tribute paid by him in order to justify his assimilation into our vaunted ranks right?
Or am I just being a jerk-off?
Here we go.
I think we had this discussion long ago, Phil... I don't know why I remember that, but I do. I should have just done the right thing back then.

Hell take enough shit from the Mets-fan ranks for defecting. Ill happily give him a howdy and buy him a round.
Runner on 3rd with 0 or 1 out and not scoring will always drive me absolutely nuts. It has for as long as I've watched baseball.
It's so much easier to sit here and say it should be automatic. But the amount of times the ball isn't even put in play in those situations makes me crazy.
Resilient team and a lot of fun to watch. I'm enjoying the hell, out of them.
Now let's walk it off and win another series.
Ooouuuu. Tonight's gonna be a good night, tonight's gonna be a good night. Let's do this Yankees!
Helluva win and good for him.
We were talking about those "98 Yankees" wins the other night - this felt like one of them. Down 5-0, ya figure tonight's just one of those nights - not so fast. Holder keeps them in it, chip away, and then the explosion.
Stanton - 2-4, GW HR, 2 RBI, 1 run
Sanchez - 2-3, HR, 2 RBI, 1 run
"Oh, shit!" -the rest of the AL
Of course there is a lot of magical thinking in those suppositions but for now it feels good. And good to see Sanchez and Stanton get going

Good call. This is such a fun season!
And Twinkies leading the Sawx in the 7th 3-1...
Astros won again.

Sanchez - 2-3, HR, 2 RBI, 1 run

The lineup is just so long there's really no relief for opposing pitchers. We even got a nice double/run scored from Frazier in the 9 hole.
Holder comes up huge again tonight. His contribution shouldn't be overlooked.

That is what it was like, you are right. You just knew it was coming and most of the time it did.

Yep. And the fact that they were winning at the clip they were winning at when Judge, Stanton, and Sanchez weren't 'on', is incredible. Alot of credit for that goes to the rookies; Andujar and Torres, which is incredible in and of itself.

You know how good this team is when they can even overcome Shreve.
Just checked again ... HA!
Maybe this was Stanton's night to really feel like he's a Yankee. I'm sure everyone went crazy on the walkoff.
And ... Holder is so aptly named.
The one thing that really stood out live was the hustle from the kids...Andujar scoring from first (going on the pitch) on Judges single, and Frazier busting his ass for his double, which was huge, getting into scoring position ahead of Didis sac fly. These kids bring some big time energy
Stadium must have been 95% full, and I dont think a single person left before the end. Fun night of baseball!!

It was even worse than that. They were down 5-0.
The team went nuts and big smiles all around. You could tell they were really stoked for him.

I'm no debbie downer, but you can't count on miracle wins every night. I think there are two slots still out there - starting pitcher and lefty reliever (other than Chapman).
Ellsbury
Gardner
Beltran
A-Rod
McCann
Castro
Gregorius
Headley
Refsnyder (Ike freaking Davis pinch hit for him later)
No one except Beltran was slugging over .419.
Shreve needs to go, why did he come in before Holder?
Somebody starts a nightly Everson Pereira watch. Thanks.
Del, I don't think Johnny pitched that badly. 6 hits but two of them were infield singles.

I thought he was ready but gave up two soft bleeder infield hits to start the game and really had to work hard to get out of that. M's were tough on him tonight and worked counts.
He just has to make his put away pitch a little more enticing. In the minors guys would chase that but the M's were laying off and got his pitch count up.
Shreve didn't do him any favors serving up a two out, 3-2 cookie to a lefty for for the 2nd and 3rd runs in the 4th. Shreve does his job and the kid only gives up one run on a night he really battled every inning. Johnny couldve folded at any time but didn't.
I'd take Happ but I'd imagine the Jays will be looking for a Yankee tax and hopefully Cash doesn't overpay.
I'd like for them to get another high quality arm for the pen. Preferably a lefty and I'd see what the Padres are asking for Hand. He'd be huge and we could wave bye bye to Shreve while also keeping Hand away from the Stros or Sox.
2) The highest by 1.2 mph, a pretty big gap, was Sanchez yesterday on a line drive out. The announcers mentioned that he crushed one yesterday, a hint that he might be coming around. So now 2 days in a row with monster shots, even if one was an out.
3) Even with his struggles, 4 of the top 10 exit velocities this year are from Stanton. He has 7 of the top 28, and 4 of those were in June.
4) 7 of the top 10 are from the three Yankees. (link)
Consider that Gleyber and Andujar are capable of joining that list, if not this year, some day soon. Maybe Frazier eventually, too. Amazing overall bat speed on this team, considering that Bird, Hicks and Didi won't make this list but hit the ball hard as well.
If Stanton and Sanchez are getting their rhythm, the league is doomed. (Knock wood.)

Even with a great lineup, it's rare to get everybody in rhythm at the same time. But just imagine we get Judge, Sanchez, and Stanton swinging the bat well at the same time.

Considering how long Boone left Shreve in the game, that's quite an accomplishment. He has got to fucking go.
GREAT TEAM WIN. Everyone except for Bird had a run and/or RBI. Holder was terrific again. Great to see Gary being Gary again.

Haha yup...that was still early enough in the game for people to bail I guess. But just as much grousing the the stands as there is here about Shreve
Would not be surprised if the explosion occurs.
What a joy to watch the enthusiasm on this team. Young guys with the sheer joy of playing baseball. Baseball as it should be played. When you see shots of the bench they are all smiling, yucking it up. Love it. Like kids in a park after school just playing for fun
FWIW, it looked to me Losagio was pitching to not get beat last night, not pitching to get people out. Lack of aggression, not attacking batters. This is where Rothschild shows him the difference in the two games. Trust you stuff and attack the zone. Like Sonny Gray should be doing.
In Johnny's defense, he said last night post game he was struggling with his fastball control all night and never got it fixed. I think that had a lot to do with how he went after guys, and don't think it was out of fear of attacking them, more of a trying to figure out some way to get them out.
Gotta give the M's some credit too, they didn't chase and really worked him last night. Overall I thought the kid battled and hung tough. If that's his below average type game, I think he's gonna be ok.
I know there were a few close ones and the zone seemed to move/float a bit, but in most cases Lasagna wasn't really close. I know I'm a bit of a whiner when it comes to inconsistent strike zones, but I was not that "upset" last night. Definitely two or three that in my mind were well inside the box not called. But the ump had a weird zone.
I agree he wasn't getting a lot of calls on the margins but I thought the ump was very inconsistent overall.
Felix was getting similar pitches called strikes and eg Bird had one AB late where he was up 2-0 in the count and the next pitch was clearly outside yet called strike 1. Changed the whole AB and inning for that matter.
There were a few calls like that both ways going against hitters. That ump is usually hitter friendly but last night he was what we all hate and that's all over the place IMO.

Hilarious, what a win. Nothing like a walk off, getting to see the guys jumping around like a bunch of kids.

Yea my daughter I were laughing at his reaction and that was without the volume of what he said. As soon as the bat made contact he knew he wasn't touching another baseball that night.

Yep, I knew it was gone before they switched cameras from Cook's reaction.
Happy for Stanton. Hope he goes on a 2-3 HR barrage!

I like it!
I'm sure Boone knows his team better than I do but this is the second time he's sat Sanchez completely after a big HR the game before and when he looked like he was really heating up. I get not catching him toady but how about DHing him? Mayb he's dinged up after the foul off his face and then hit by pitch but he handled that pretty good last night.
If he wants to give Miggy a day off from fielding that's fine but I wish he would've given him the whole day and kept Gary's heating up bat in there.
Honestly, last night was the first time in a long while that I was annoyed by one of Boone's decisions. He needs to face the fact that a)Shreve has a reverse platoon split, so he's no LOOGY b)Shreve sucks regardless. Honestly, I'd feel more confident seeing AJ Cole out there at this point.
Cessa actually has fared pretty well against lefties - he's another reverse guy.

So, it would make some sense.
Ten days on the DL, 30 days of rehab in AAA, doesn't have to be passed through waivers. "Neck strain."
The way this system churns out relievers, you can't tell me they can't find someone better than Shreve down on the farm. JP Freyereisen, Cody Carroll, somebody.

anybody, really.
I think the other was Giambi.
That's sort of hard to believe considering the Yankees have played like 18,000+ games.

Ha! This is a great point. Puts him ready to be back just as rosters expand.
It's back up in the minors, I think they want to see consistent results before they promote him. 8 outings so far, allowed runs in each of the first 2 and then in the 6th, otherwise has been pretty good. So probably pretty close.

Sure it wears you down but IMO no reason he couldn't DH today. This is at least twice now he has sat Gary when he was just getting heated up,and it seemed to cool him off the last time. I just don't want to see that happen again.
I'd feel different if he was still cold but that's not the case and I want to keep feeding him and get him locked in.
