to name Trotz as head coach of the Islanders.
Lebrun and everyone else on twitter confirming it. What an upgrade and great day for this franchise. What better way to show JT that you're committed to winning than hiring a Stanley Cup champion coach who won multiple president's trophies as well?
LGI!
While the goaltending and the defense were subpar, a lot of the Islanders problems were the system they played which seemed to make backchecking optional. Trotz got Ovie to play defense. If he can do it with some of the forwards on this roster, they can make a jump just next year.
It's an exciting time to be an Islander fan!

No one is expecting Lou Lamoriello to confirm anything...but word here in DAL is a five-year deal for Trotz at least $4M per year.
So typical of you, MetNut ignore the moronic comment this is a very good move by the Islanders. I am very excited to see what comes next. Rangers probably wishing they waited to name their coach.
This is a screw you from Trotz to Capitals too. He stays in the division and gets what he asked then gets what he asked the Caps for, great day for Islander fans!!!!!!!!

You're lucky I only used two!
I guess there's reason for excitement for Islanders fans, but let's see how he does without Ovechkin and Holtby.
May not be without Holtby for too long!!!!!
tony, Im excited. As you know, I live in the DC area and endure a lot of Caps coverage. But Ive told my crew for a long time that Trotz is a good man. Hes clearly skilled at the coaching side, but hes a consummate professional and hes an excellent person. Our roster should thrive under his tutelage. I admire him for his deep and unashamed affection for his son who has Downs.
Basically, outside of anything Rangers-centric, most of your crew on BBI is woefully uninformed on the NHL on the whole. I stopped posting here because most of this board is bereft of hockey knowledge, and outside of PJ, had no desire to continue posting to enlighten the masses. Heck, for someone that considers themselves looking to expand their professional horizons - as an attorney no less - you still refer to the team as "Brooklyn". You're smarter than that but erode your credibility with such stupidity. Hudson-esque.
And yes, two exclamation points are necessary. For folks like me near 50 and were present for the dynasty, this return to adults with foresight running the team and a bright future (regardless of the Tavares outcome), this is most definitely a cause for celebration. No one expects titles this instant. But after 30 years of ineptitude and the 12 year assfucking of the franchise by Snow, you damn well should understand we are happy at being run like a real franchise. And we're happy you're that concerned enough that you stopped by to post on our thread.
Dont waste your time trying to get him to understand. This is the same guy that wanted Nash then could not wait to get rid of him. Thought Sather was a great signing and loved basically everything he did. The Islanders needle is pointing up and he knows it and is not very happy that it is. Great move today!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!
Wouldn't be an NHL offseason without his perennial "changing of the guard" prediction that never quite seems to pan out.

Lolz. It took a 3 game win streak at the end of the season to even finish ahead of the hapless, tanking Rangers who traded away almost all of their good players.
Tavares was already there for that. But sure, re-signing him will change everything!

Hahahaha, what? I was 10 when Glen Sather came to the Rangers.
More importantly, it looks like Tavares will re-sign - which is unfortunate.

pganut, your 1:02 a little harsh, no. Aside from Greg's hangdog, you have rabid and knowledgeable Rangers' thread participants Brett, Kyle, MAB, Kevin, many others not coming to mind (it's out of season, that's why). In general, I find the caliber of discussions over there to be of a high order, without much of the histrionics and mindless backbiting and insults that characterize Giants' threads. Of course it's going to be Rangers-centric and of course there are going to be those who are less knowledgable about the sport and (I include myself here) the NHL as a whole.
I think this is great for the Islanders and let the backbiting between partisans of the east side of the Hudson carry on in the style to which they have and mean good fun, no need to go out of your mind. (:
My footy friend, good to see you. I missed discussing much of EPL when I left late last year, but we should discuss my City sometime soon! I am only harsh given the young ones sometimes want to flex and us old guys who do things right (really, Brooklynders? You never see Rags out of my mouth.) have to waste bandwidth sorting through the dreck that otherwise doesnt need to be here. And yes, outside the cadre of gents you mention who do know their stuff - and who I enjoy conversing with - there are plenty of others who are definite head-scratchers and who most frequently come out at playoffs as diehards, but dont know your existing roster, prospects, or anything that happens outside of MSG. It just got...tiring. And Im hoping those involved in hockey conversation now are the ones who know their shit and bring it accordingly. If credibility is desired. Shit, Greg, Brett, arc, hoya, Kyle, MAB, B in ALB (gone but not forgotten), etc...all know Im good with the stinky glove to the face. We trade in jersey tugs and snowplows. Its what makes this fun. Just want to keep it that way and not 3rd grade amateur hour.
My position has been pretty consistent and it frankly doesn't bear repeating. It has nothing to do with you guys. In fact, quite the opposite. I would love if Blueshirt Nation absorbed Islanders fans and welcomed some of the most passionate fans on the planet. The problem with Islanders fans has never been quality; it's quantity. The reach has always been limited to suburban New York City. The Brooklyn move has been a disaster for many reasons, but my criticism about that organization has never been about the fervor of the fans. Shit, Blueshirt Nation could use more fans like you and Fish.
But it's a moot point. Hopefully the 16,000 seat arena in Belmont works out for you guys.
No.
Unless they believe Reirden (or whoever they hire) was the impetus behind the "culture change" the players and media credit Trotz with, it makes very little sense to me to save $2M or $3M and miss out on a chance at repeating.
I wonder if anyone has put together a metric showing exactly how much a SC means in terms of additional $$$ to a franchise. Not just ticket sales for the playoff games, but all the goodwill etc. they get in new fans and revenue streams.

Maybe something went sour behind the scenes - otherwise, I really don't understand it either. The revenue should have easily covered a more significant raise. What was really stopping them from offering it?
Seems like a very strange time to suddenly cheap out like that.
Saw this:
Dreger: "I'm pretty close to this story, in terms of Tavares going or staying. I can tell you with certainty that there's no decision made." #Isles 1050

Islanders to play eight more games than previously planned at the Coliseum next season. Story by @YanceyRoy on @NewsdaySports soon.

So looks like they are going to play half their games at the Coliseum next year. I'd have to think that any (hypothetical) playoff games would be at the Coliseum too. Today just keeps getting better.

Lmao, I want into that room and first thing I do is drop with Brett.
He waited 360 days to force ownership to clean the mess up. Hire a real coach. Less games in Brooklyn. Still more moves to come.

Still praying that the Capitals hire AV

While $28 mil is a lot, it can get used up very quickly with needed new contracts.
Amen to AV!
a team like the Canadiens has $18M in cap space, but has 21 players under contract. Just as an example how cap space is really relative.
Now many of those 21 players aren't very good which is why they're picking 3rd, so not suggesting anything super positive, but having the most cap space with also the most roster room isn't always a great thing.
It's important to realize how many players you need to add to the roster for those cap $$$.
If Vegas wants to throw a stupid contract at him at least you get nyi to kick in a few extra bucks. He'll need it for his Brookville mega mansion
Youve summed it up exactly as Ive heard. As Tessio would say, I always liked the kid, it was just business.
Anakim : 11:17 am
He doesn't have much skill, he's not flashy at all. He's a solid player who will put up 15 goals a year. It pretty much ends there. It'd be like taking Brandon Prust at #15
Have you ever

Just admit you've seen like 5 minutes of the guy and you're basing your entire opinion off write ups you've read online. It's painfully obvious.
I have no problem admitting I've seen barely any of these guys play. Most of us haven't, it's not a big deal.
Biggs played for USA

So.. Yeah.
You haven't see enough of him to equal a hell no.

I was right, though. Biggs busted
I see JT seeing what's out there. SJ may drive up the price but he will probably stay in NY. The only reason he would leave is if a team closer to a title offers big money.
Caps will sign Rierden. Need to sign Carlson and Wilson. It would be nice to keep Kempny. All of the Defensemen credit Reirden with their improved play. Hopefully they can keep some of the rest of the staff around.
This it ultimately happens, but I don't think it will prior to the start of the draft. It might not even happen until it's time to make a selection.
Reason being, it's such a deep draft. When you have a draft this stacked, most teams inevitably have "their guys" that they think is a cut above the rest. I think if it gets closer to the pick and, say Grubauer is the guy, and there's a guy still on the board that is believed to be coveted by Washington, it could very wall alter Lou's asking price. I think he's going to want to see who's remaining on the board to establish the actual value of that 11th pick.

Not for 10 just the last 3, one of these times I will be right. with the moves they are making with GM and coaching changes and where they will be playing there games I just might get it right this year.
