First. Doncics mom? Jeeeesus. Even a couple of my sons college buddies are texting him about her lol. Hilarious.

Lonnie Walker. Loved how he helped his mom down the stairs even when dad had bolted through.

Wendell Carter Jr. was accepted to Harvard. He was my pick this morning. That seals it. Carter and Wagner at the top of the second and Im thrilled.

Here we go!

Porter
Jon in NYC : 6/21/2018 8:27 pm : link
has red flags all over the place. Similar player to Knox otherwise.
6-9 mature 18-year-old!

Love it!
I like it

Porter must be really messed up.

Greg Oden status probly
Knicks pick the ugliest player on the board

I wanted Porter. But what do I know?
I wonder if the Nets
kelsto811 : 6/21/2018 8:28 pm : link
Trade up here or soon. I'd love for them to get Porter (they took a risk on Levert...) But they'd likely have to give up Levert or RHJ to do that and that just wouldn't work for me

Knicks again. Just like taking Frank. You cant make this up

Not even remotely like taking Frank. You can be critical of the pick, but that's just an asinine thing to say.

I like Knox as a player, but I don't think he's athletic enough to be an NBA SF. I think he's a stretch 4.

Good to hear. I have a small measure of confidence the current Knicks brass has a bit of a clue when it comes to developing players. Hope this kid works out.

But let nothing derail the 2019 tank without Porz
Knicks now feautiring Frank, Knox , KP
DennyInDenville : 6/21/2018 8:29 pm : link
Frank in the backcourt , Knox and Kp on the wings

Let's see them develop ..

Nice little nucleus , one more tank job and draft a star and we might be onto something

I really really like Knox. Porter was my guy but he must be degenerately injured

But I would have drafted him because of the star potential

A back, a hip, and questionable character are not things we could gamble on. If we were at #12 then maybe. Knox is similar scorer and looks alot like Tatum, but a year younger when they both came out.
Welcome aboard, Kevin.

Can ESPN stop making a celebrity of that idiot kid from the KP draft? For fuck's sake already.

The medical on Porter has to be bad.

I'm totally fine with this pick. Coming from a great program, still SUPER young, tons of talent to work with. He can shoot, he's got size, versatility.

This is cool with me. The Knicks didn't do anything fucking absurd which is enough to placate me, sadly.
the kid is 18 years old

Cleveland and Philly have smart people in their buildings.

If they passed on Porter too, it tells you something.
Love the Knox pick
Phil in LA : 6/21/2018 8:32 pm : link
once Sexton and Carter were gone. I think he will be surprising scorer as he develops. Remember, the first NBA draft every year, is whoever Kentucky and Duke sign.

Bad.
Any Nets fans lurking?

Who do you want them to Target? Wanted Bridges
Was Hoping For Mikal Bridges
TheVette : 6/21/2018 8:36 pm : link
...but Knox was a late riser, who many thought might have gone to the Bulls at 7. If nothing else - I like this pick a lot better than last year's pick - not high on Ntilkina at all.
Questionable character?
Greg from LI : 6/21/2018 8:38 pm : link
That's a bit much.
I figured Mills/Perry
bceagle05 : 6/21/2018 8:38 pm : link
would go with a "safe" Mikal pick as their first lottery selection - pleasantly surprised they were a bit bolder. I'm excited about #36 too - should be some talented guys available.
As for the Knicks pick..
kelsto811 : 6/21/2018 8:38 pm : link
Knox was a target of mine for the Nets too (in a trade up) 18 years old, can play SF and PF, 3 and D type. Good upside.
No way of knowing how bad Porter's back is.
manh george : 6/21/2018 8:39 pm : link
CBS is saying he could sit out all or most of the season.
Quote:
NBA Draft 2018: Whoever drafts Michael Porter Jr. reportedly could have him sit out part or all of rookie season

Knox is a gamble, because he is the youngest player in the draft and hasn't come close to growing into his body yet. He's 6'9"
No, he doesn't have quality defensive skills, but could he develop them by age 21? He'll be 19 in August. Caliperi loves his upside (link), and supposedly at the Knicks 3 on 3 workout he kicked Mikal Bridges' ass.

Quote:
Teams are going to say two years from now, Why would we have passed on him? Calipari said during a conference call. Hes the youngest player in this draft. Hes mentally mature. Hes got a great drive and will within his body. But physically his body isnt there yet.

So youre getting a 6-10 scorer whos tougher than you think but has a way to go. Hes going to mature physically. What you find out when you get him is thats what the league is moving to: 6-10 guys who can score the ball, can shoot it, can block shots. Athletically he can do it.

Picking a very young, physically immature player could have upside for next year's lottery, relative to Bridges at 21 who is closer to what he will ultimately become.

funny thjng about knox in high school he was known as a hustle, defender, rebounder type of player...

knicks got a steal he is gokng tk show so much more than what he was able to show at kentuxky

Mills too

I didn't know Knox is the son of Kevin Knox the early '90s FSU WR

It was actually Miles Bridges from Michigan St. who's ass Knox kicked. Mikal was the safer pick, and I liked that his pedigree. After taking Ntilkina last year - though they might have looked at the safer pick this year, but Knox is no way a bad pick.

Question
Carl in CT : 6/21/2018 8:50 pm : link
Dont we have a stretch 4?
Send it in Jerome!

First BC lottery pick, let me enjoy it.
Jerry West had two shots at Porter
bceagle05 : 6/21/2018 8:51 pm : link
and still passed on him.
Nets should make a call and grab Faried and 14th
kelsto811 : 6/21/2018 8:52 pm : link
Then take Porter.
Knox has a
XBRONX : 6/21/2018 8:56 pm : link
great floater near the rim. Very accurate.
Porter might be great.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 6/21/2018 8:59 pm : link
But his injuries concern the hell out of me.
Still Makes For Lottery Next Year
TheVette : 6/21/2018 9:00 pm : link
We'll see how Knox develops, but he certainly won't do enough to get this team passed 25 or so wins, so they will be back in the lottery - hopefully a little higher up. Add in that KP may miss a lot more time next year, and next year is about serious tanking.

Mikal Bridges was a safer pick, but probably will outperform the Knicks plan which is to build a playoff caliber team in 3 years or so, via the draft and FA. Can't have that

The lottery will be
Metnut : 6/21/2018 9:02 pm : link
a bit more flat next year after lottery reform. So the teams in the 7-12 range will get a bit more value.
Like the pick..
Sean : 6/21/2018 9:04 pm : link
The NBA is a veteran league and 18 is a baby, it could be 3-4 years before he fully develops into a really solid pro, but I trust this regime.

How does the new lottery system work?
We'll see. There are questions regarding his intensity and work ethic
Ira : 6/21/2018 9:08 pm : link
Assuming the front office did their homework on those issues, he has the talent to be a good player. As a rookie, he'll probably replace Beasley. Where he goes from there is up to him.
The Knicks are not
brunswick : 6/21/2018 9:09 pm : link
at the stage where they can make the safe pick. Thats where they want to be eventually. They need to be looking for upside first and foremost. I think they got it right with Knox.

This is not good.
Porter went `14th...
manh george : 6/21/2018 9:17 pm : link
which means that teams were very nervous about his health. Knicks needed to take a risk on upside, which they did, not on health, which could have been a disaster.
Mills/ Perry said they wanted to select
Dave on the UWS : 6/21/2018 9:17 pm : link
the BPA available with the highest upside. Assuming Porter was off their board (likely), this kid fits that description. KP, Frankie, and now Knox all teenagers when drafted that need to be developed. FINALLY this organization has a plan, has people running it that have a clue. Now if they can properly develop these 3 (and next years lottery pick) they will be well on their way.. I have hope its been a LONG time.
