Orleans Darkwa cleared for football activities.

robbieballs2003 : 6/21/2018 8:16 pm
It seems he is healthy and had interest from multiple team. I wonder which teams are interested?

Darkwa (knee) announced via his personal twitter account that he has been medically cleared for football activities.

Darkwa underwent a minor knee procedure early on in May and will now look to catch on with a team ahead of the 2018 season. He reportedly had several interested teams prior to his surgery after he averaged 4.4 yards per carry for the Giants last year. Look for him to sign on as a backup or change of pace running back for the coming year.

wish him well, but I'd be surprised if he returns to the Giants.
He’d be insane to

and a good Giant. I wish he got a bigger opportunity here but he wasn't able to stay healthy enough to really be reliable. I'd love to bring him back, but you have to think that another team will be able to offer a better opportunity for him.

I wouldn't be shocked if he had a breakout on a different team behind a different line. Keep an eye on him as a 15th round pick in fantasy football drafts if he ends up in a good situation.
His deficiencies as a receiver are limiting

Good guy, good runner. I hope he finds a team that can utilize him.
Just throwing out teams but maybe

Houston, Indy, or Baltimore?
The Patriots had him in for a visit...

Before the draft.
A few years ago I had high hopes

for Andre Brown. He had great vision but every year he took that old saying literally. "Break a leg". He's still young.
This guy

Had been the best running back on our team for 2 years now. I found myself screaming at the screen last year to give him the ball.

Yeah. They just have so many backs (Michel, Hill, Burkhead, White, and maybe someone else I am forgetting). If he chose NE he must not have any other offers
Medical clearance just means that he won't re-injure himself. It does
Marty in Albany : 6/22/2018 2:49 am : link
not mean that his physical condition and abilities are back to where they were before he was injured. Nicks, Cruz and Sehorn were all "medically cleared" but they were never the same, just not in danger or aggravating their prior injuries.
As far as RBs go
Gman11 : 6/22/2018 8:00 am : link
he's a JAG. Good guy to have for depth in case of injuries, but not what you need for a starter.
I'd prefer him over some of the backs on the roster

Not that it will be a big loss.
He's a decent NFL RB
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/22/2018 11:18 am : link
Especially when he's not the best RB on the roster. I'd take Darkwa at his price over Stewart 10/10 times.

And I thought Gallman gave you good work when he was in there too. If you look at how he played and leave the team results out of that, he can play. He can run it and catch it. 34 receptions on 48 targets. 4.3 yards a carry and nearly 500 rush yards on part time carries.
Stewart over Darkwa
Jimmy Googs : 6/22/2018 12:11 pm : link
seems like an odd decision...
His 4.4 YPC last year

Was better than Bell, Elliot, and Fournette. Obviously that is not the whole story, but he's a pretty good back if not required to carry the load.

I think Stewart was brought in more for his character and to be a mentor to Barkley. I realize we signed Stew before we drafted Barkley, but I'm fairly certain even then that Gettleman had a pretty good idea that he'd be drafting Saquon.

I don't disagree with anyone that Darkwa is probably a better runner at this point, but if you're wondering why Gettleman chose Stewart, I'm fairly sure that's why.

The other problem with Darkwa is his durability. He seems to get banged up/injured fairly often.
Think our RBs are

already here. He wants a shot as a starter I am sure. It would not be on this rooster unless we get hit with a lot of injuries.
Does Darkwa play special teams?
Jay on the Island : 6/23/2018 5:15 pm : link
I can't remember if he did or not. The 4th RB on the depth chart has to be a solid special teams player. If he can't then there is no reason to bring him back especially with his injury history. If Stewart or Gallman go down during the preseason then Darkwa is worth a look but until then the Giants should give Martin and Simmons a chance to show what they have.

Darkwa played specials, I'm pretty sure...
Year by year special teams snaps for Darkwa
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/23/2018 8:59 pm : link
2015: 66%
2016: 30%
2017: 13%

As his role on offense increased, his special teams play decreased.

It's a moot point because I don't see how they keep 4 RB. It'll be Barkley, Stewart, and Gallman.
i always liked Darkwa

strong runner, just runs forward, doesnt try to tip toe or dance. Nothing special but a strong runner. I think he could have been a real bruiser if he ever had the chance to play with a competent offensive line
