Absurd
A walk to the Latin kids, in general,is strongly frowned upon. No one signs a Latin player because of his outstanding plate discipline. NEVER. They swing as hard on 0-0 as 3-0. A generalization, but my point is pretty simple
Absurd walk rates happen. Plenty. But are fairly rare. Unless you change their thinking, that it’s a positive outcome. A walk, steal, advance to third in a grounder to second, and score on a sac fly. The outcome is the same as that solo homerun...
Very excited about Sherwyn Newton and Mauricio, along with Kelenic (who hasn't yet played) but those 3 plus Gimenez and Vientos, should all arrive in the big leagues around the same time (2022ish). Which could give us a nice young core. But obviously that's years ago.
Dan, how do you expect drew smith to perform?

I like Smith but I think he's more of a middle reliever/7th inning arm than a future closer type. His command comes and goes. I think he's a big leaguer however not sure sure about guys like Callahan.
Lol sorry

Yeah he signed.
He's done nothing but pitch well so far very early in his career. The Mets like him but as I said 2 different people downplayed his pure stuff so yeah Dillon Gee more than Syndergaard at this point.

what do you make of Christian James. His performance has been outstanding but people seem to be questioning his stuff. Is he a Dillon Gee type? or do you think he adds velo as he gets older?

As you may know, Christian was on a couple of Little League All-Star teams I coached (back when he was 8-12 years old) and I’ve seen him pitch a lot. He has had decent pitching coaches all along but was never a super hard worker and got by mostly on talent alone. I think now that this is his livelihood he is working harder, accepting coaching, getting better nutrition, etc., and in my opinion will add a couple more MPH. He’s young and maturing but has pitched tremendously well in his 4 outings this year. Had a no-hitter going into the 6th last night when a bunt spoiled it. When he’s on, he’s dominant. When he’s not, he’s awful. And you can usually tell in the first inning what kind of night it’s going to be. He’s got a lot of youthball mileage on his arm but if he stays healthy he has the ability to make the big club... in my opinion.

Just to be clear I am in no way dogging Christian James. The Mets like him. There were just some reports out he was throwing 95 and I had 2 different writers say this was from the Mets and not accurate. He's pitched well, not knocking im.

I didn’t think you were, Dan. Just passing on my thoughts to you guys because I know you’re interested.
Unfortunately once it’s stated a player “hit” mph, the next guy says he throws x mph and everyone will repeat that. Look at the recent draft for hundreds of examples of this

Well said Shecky.
I'd package Familia and any out of Frazier (unlikely), Bautista, Reyes and Flores (least like to part with)
for Groome +
