That's awesome
They're well on their way to giving it all back though. One run in, second and third, still no one out.
Well I've been watching baseball since the late 60's and I honestly can't think of a player who gets as many bad calls on pitches aging him. It has to be because of his height and umps being too stubborn (or dumb) to adjust their strike zones.
It's certainly not because he argues or gives them a hard time, and is on their shit list. He seems to be universally liked around the game.
Here's the thing I don't get. He's well liked and a big star in the game who people pay to come out and see. They want to see him hit, and not have the bat taken out of his hands by shitty umps.
I'm not asking for favoritism towards him, just a fair shake. It seems they actually treat him like he's some bad guy and go out of their way to screw him over.
I don't get it at all and you'd think he's so popular and good for the game the powers that be would notice what's going on and correct it. He's one of the biggest stars in the game for fuck's sake.
That's baseball Susyn.
Last week the same guys faced each other and it was a pitchers duel. I think the final was 2-1 or 1-0, and LeBlanc retired 20 something in a row after a lead off single.
Preaching to the choir. I've been saying that all year.
Boone needs to go off before Judge ends up chasing those bad pitches. I honestly don't know why Boone hasn't gone off yet.
I don't think it can be to speed up the game. Judge is one of the few guys who actually stays in the box and doesn't do some dumb batting glove adjustment or step out after every pitch.
There's been times I wanted him to step out or call time, and to me it's noticeable how he stays in there bat ready to go between pitches. He probably takes less time per pitch than the majority of players. He does run a lot of 3-2 counts though, but that's because he's a good hitter with a real good eye. To me that should signal to umps he knows the strike zone

over what these umps are doing to Judge

Yeah I mean he was barking from the dugout, but it’s past time he went full Earl Weaver/Billy Martin to show one of these guys up.
These umps should be embarrassed. The announcers are right...the fact Judge has so much class he never complains is working against him.
The little bit of muttering he did that last AB was the biggest reaction he’s shown all season I think.
Maybe not on the away pitches but he can certainly see the low ones and there's been a shit load of those called on Judge all year.
I'm beyond giving Boone a pass on this at this point. They said on Yes Judge has had 62 pitches called strikes that were balls. 62!
Well the obvious argument is he'll get tossed for arguing balls and strikes but at this point I say so what? Get tossed, and then tossed again if need be til they fix this bullshit.
You haven't heard the nationals announcers then.
But all for naught unless the Yanks do some hitting tonight
1) I think umps as a group are a very weird and often not well grounded personalities. And they often fight the game
of baseball
2) I think they look at Judges talent and size and try to "even" the sides. Seriously. I think some of them believe a normal strike zone would tilt too much to Judge's advantage. He has too many already.
Heaven forbid the elite physical deviations from average that self select to basketball or football should unbalance the game.
Sound nuts? Ever get a slice of the psychology captured by their union contract and resistance to merit or performance review?
Now its also possible that the angle they view from makes aligning with Judges actual knee height hard to do
They either can't or refuse to raise that level for Judge being 6" or so taller than most players.
How they miss the outside pitch I have no explanation for except incompetency.
I think over time Judge aims for hits (with a more level variation of his swing) and more plate/zone coverage and less aim at Home Runs. The eventual result winds up a better and better player. I think he has the brains and the work ethic to not yet be at his peak. Its his sophomore year.
Year 3 through 8 could be special. I think he could be a 290/40-42 hr /.425 OPS player

I think some of your points have merit as we too often see umps think they're part of the game and exaggerate their importance to it, like we pay and go to see them perform.
That goes to my point about them refusing to adjust for Judge's height. It's as if they're saying "I have my zone, he has to adjust to me" type of thing. All the while not giving two shits about their effect on the game when they call strikes that are clearly well below his knees. It's that arrogance and weirdness you mentioned.
Eventually home plate will have sensors and umps will call plays at the plate (but get paid more with larger retirement payouts)
Gotta use your head there man.
Vitamin B12 shots for all!
Yeah, CC deserved better and no way I thought they'd only score one run vs TB.
It's not. The only people who think it is are people who flat out just hate the Yanks and want them to do poorly.
Funny thing is I know people who don't like the Yanks but like Judge, and even they say he's getting screwed. My son in law is a Sox fan and thinks it's laughable how bad some of the calls against him are, and doesn't understand why it happens either. He said he'd be livid if that consistently happened to Betts or one of the Sox best hitters.
In a game like last night taking the bat out of his hands twice on bad calls could honestly have been the difference in the game. Who knows if he jacks one out on the next pitch if he's still batting? He's a guy who can change a game with one swing, and those swings shouldn't be taken away by obvious bad calls.
