Something I forgot about that 2007 Dallas team we beat

Knee of Theismann : 6/22/2018 9:14 pm
They set the record for most pro bowl selections EVER with 13. Man that makes it even sweeter. So we beat a team with a record number of pro bowlers and the only team to ever go 16-0 in a season. Plus we won the NFCCG with the longest field goal ever at Lambeau in the postseason... in -23 degree weather (or something).

What a historic run... just wanted to mention this since I happened to stumble upon it and it brought a smile to my face :-) have a great weekend everybody.

Thankfully Jerry ran Parcells off with TO

after 2006. Because Parcells had built a team that was setup for a long championship run. Even Wade Phillips went 13-3 with that team in 2007.
Right but then the second they lost that game...

Shoved it right down that insanely unlikeable Dallas teams throat.
That run

Coming at the dallas expense (twice, don’t forget 2011) carries so much weight with me... A true gift from the football gods.
If memory serves, at least a couple Cowboys that season
mfsd : 6/22/2018 9:46 pm : link
made the Pro Bowl on reputation more than their play that season. Safety Roy Williams being the most obvious example, that was his last if I think 5 pro bowls, but he wasn’t really that great in 2007

Which recalls one of Bob Papa’s most memorable calls, on Toomer’s long TD in our playoff win over Dallas “and Roy Williams fell down, but he’s going to the Pro Bowl”

That 2007 playoff game came down to one simple conclusion
djm : 6/22/2018 9:50 pm : link
The giants scored a TD in the second half, Dallas kicked a FG. Ball game. Eli and the giants did just enough that day. Dallas played well, the giants played better.
Pretty sure just before that game
mrvax : 6/22/2018 10:00 pm : link
Jerry Jones had already passed out complimentary tickets to all the Cowboy players for the following week in Green Bay.

Yup that’s the story I remember too.

Seeing that jackass come down to the sidelines the way he always did, then standing there looking miserable was the cherry on top
what I remember about that game
CMicks3110 : 6/22/2018 10:06 pm : link
is the defensive line made their offensive line tired. Usually it's the other way around. But our lineman were so athletic and fit that they were sucking wind.

Mostly correct. Jones passed out tickets for the NFC Championship Game in Dallas. The Cowboys were the #1 seed.
Good catch

Jacobs f***ing HATED the Cowboys as much as we all do, and it made me like him even a little bit more.

Our defensive adjustments in the second half were pretty special there. 100 yards on the ground first half. 0 in the second.
I remember seeing some Packers fans before the championship game
mfsd : 6/23/2018 8:43 am : link
in the bar we were at, traded some good natured trash talk, then saying with 100% honesty, we just beat the Cowboys in Dallas to ruin their season, shutting up Jerrah and the legion of Cowboy fan bitches in the process - I don’t care if we win today or not, everything after last week is gravy
Wasn't that the game where T.O. cried

Don't remember ever seeing that before -- the Giants rotated their defensive line and kept them so fresh that the usual 4thQ "run out the clock" practice was reversed. Instead, the Giants' pass rush got more and more successful.

Favorite Eli drive ever
JohnB : 6/23/2018 3:34 pm : link
Before the half, Dallas marches the length of the field, taking almost 10 minutes off of the clock scoring a TD and leaving Eli with a minute and a half or so before halftime. Eli drives back and stuffs it down their throats in like 45 seconds, ending with Toomer TD. Take that!!!

This was the game right there.
In that end of the half TD drive, Steve Smith had two good
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 6/23/2018 4:39 pm : link
catches for first downs. On the second one he drew the facemask penalty.

Smith also had the biggest Super Bowl catch never replayed. The 3rd and eleven first down catch between the Tyree helmet catch and the Burress TD catch.

And Kevin Boss made the big 19 yard catch and run that kicked off the Giant's first TD drive in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. Two rookies coming up so big under pressure and we never heard from them again. Neither did anyone else, I guess.

I had my Sirius Satellite back then and I loved listening to the Dallas radio announcers at the end. "You know, I really didn't think that Dallas would have much trouble beating the Giants."

This was also the game that defined Tony Romo to me. The Giants barely had enough offense to take the lead in the 2nd half and the 'Boys offense had three cracks at the Giants from increasingly better field position. Romo just had to lead his team to a TD on any of those drives.

Yep! The pass to Boss that got us to like the five was awesome. Eli played awesome during that playoff run.

Steve Smith was unspectacular, but man
CT Charlie : 6/23/2018 6:32 pm : link
was he valuable. It seemed like he always got 1 or 2 yards past the chains, always used his body to shield the defender, and he never dropped a catchable ball. Miss him.

There won’t be a better run for any team in any sport. Sorry everyone, but that’s the truth. Ok maybe one run by one unmentionable team in mlb, but we aren’t going there and even that run doesn’t check all the boxes that nyg checked off in 2007.

With that said, we can sure as hell try and top it! 2011 was a nice follow up.

The DL was nothing short of heroic. They were close to being overmatched in that game just like every other team was during that season. The dallas OL in 2007 was excellent, maybe even more imposing than their latest ol that I still say is a tad overrated.

This wasn’t 1986 or 1990 when the giants defense was better than everyone else. The 07 giants DL had to play better than it probably could have most of the time in this game. Second half they really upped their game. Had to happen.
wow
giantfan2000 : 6/23/2018 7:31 pm : link
Dallas controlled the most of second quarter with monster drive that lasted 10 plus minutes and it looked like they were going to take over the game
but Eli came back with 46 seconds left in first half and drove down field for TD.

Eli was amazing that whole post season. But my favorite memory is Jerruh on the sideline. Every time I see a picture of that I smile.

TrueBlue56 : 6/24/2018 10:39 am : link
Is that we had a decimated secondary. The cowboys wide receivers were running free through our defense and the cowboys could not capitalize. Romo was so flustered and erratic. I believe he got an intentional grounding penalty late in the game. What an amazing game.

I honestly was content with that season as soon as we won that game. That was all I wanted out of that season... to spoil their season in one shot.

I never in a million years thought we were going to not only go into Lambeau and out-duel Favre in sub-zero temps, but defeat the undefeated Pats? Forget it..

But we did. :)

Best season ever IMO. It unfolded in almost story-book fashion. Still gives me chills thinking about it.

In NFL films summary of the game, there's a great sequence of a Dallas assistant cursing every time Eli marched right back up the field.
I remember when McQuarters pulled down that last INT

I think it was the longest I ever waited to celebrate a win and not be destroyed by a late flag getting thrown. I must've waited a good 15 seconds. Didn't seem real that we actually won that game.

Steve Smith was never heard from again? In 2009 he caught 107 balls for over 1200 yards which earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl. Injuries ruined what would have been a very nice career.
