Multiple sources in Beckham’s camp told Ralph Vacchiano of SNY that a holdout is still on the table, and multiple sources in the Giants organization told Vacchiano that they’re not sure if he’ll be at training camp or not.

i think he'll be there

is he going to take a hit of $40,000 per day until his contract is resolved, when the Giants have all the leverage on him over the next three years via his contract and the franchise tags? he's a competitor and has shown up to mini camp and has been working hard training this offseason. this is just noise to try and expedite the negotiations.

Some unsolicited advice. Don't use ALL CAPS when you don't know what you are talking about. It highlights your ignorance. Spotrac or Over-the-Cap are best consulted before commenting on player contracts.

Different contracts have different level of guarantee.

Some are 0%, some are 100%. You cant make a blanket statement one way or the other.
For the sake of this discussion, yes I can.

First off, please show me an example of a multi year contract that’s fully gtd. Secondly, I brought it up because people are suggesting OBJ needs to play out his deal. Reality is that if a player isn’t living up to it, they will be released by the team when it’s financially beneficial. OBJ has every right t hold out.

Kirk Cousins
Yeah, that was clearly a one off.
Keith : 6/25/2018 2:19 pm : link
Because it was short term, he wanted the whole thing gtd, but your are correct. His contract is not the norm at all. Most teams want longer deals even with big gtd numbers to spread out the cap hit and then they cut the player as soon as they stop producing.

Regardless, the pt remains. Teams cut players all the time for not living up to their contracts. When a player like OBJ, who significantly outperforms, asks for more money.....he's out of line. It's quite unfair.
of course he can hold out
ron mexico : 6/25/2018 2:38 pm : link
this is still America

But the latest CBA has taken the teeth out of holdouts and related threats.
Again though, that wasn't the point of the discussion
Keith : 6/25/2018 2:56 pm : link
that you jumped in on. Clearly this CBA has taken all of hte leverage away from the players. It's terrible. Teams can and will cut players with years left if they arent performing. It happens all the time. Yet here you have a kid thats significantly outperformed and he's looked at negatively for holding out(which is the ONLY little bit of leverage that players have). It's a broken system.

Cousins took on some risk. He accepted a short deal, but demanded the whole thing gtd. That was smart of him because now he has the leverage. More players need to do that.
I want to find the person who would honestly say
jcn56 : 6/25/2018 3:04 pm : link
that in OBJ's shoes, they'd do something differently.

I won't, since there's no damn way I'd perform the best in my field on a contract that is very loosely guaranteed, and run the risk of playing well below market and suffering an injury that could end my career before getting my next (and first real lucrative) contract.

But I'm sure a lot of people will lie through their teeth and claim they'd play out the contract.

If I was OBJ
mrvax : 6/25/2018 3:23 pm : link
there'd be no way I practice contact drills without some crazy insurance policy.

If he did suffer a career ending injury (and this is the Giants we are talking about) his endorsements would soon dry up.
