Whitlock was the Yankees 18th round draft pick in 2017. He played at Univ of Alabama (Birmingham) and was considered a later pick because of sign-ability. He eventually signed with the Yankees on the last day, receiving a bonus of $247,500.
Whitlock only pitched 14 innings last year, but his 2018 has been nothing short of incredible. After 40 innings in Low A Charleston and a 1.13 ERA, he was promoted up to Tampa. In his 6 starts with High A Tampa, he has a 1.80 ERA.
Last night, Whitlock pitched against Jorge Guzman (former Yankee part of Stanton trade with Marlins). Whitlock's numbers- 7.0 innings, only 3 hits and 1 BB, and 11 Ks in a 5-0 victory.
Overall this season, Whitlock has a 1.41 ERA over 70 innings with 81 Ks.
Clearly one of the most impressive Yankee farmhands this season. Whitlock is 6'5" and 198 pounds. He turned 22 years old on June 11th.
from MLB.com:
"New York has introduced him to a four-seamer to work the upper portion of the strike zone, and he has shown the ability to carry mid-90s velocity into the late innings. He also has a breaking ball with the power of a slider and the depth of a curveball, as well as a changeup that counteracts left-handers … He has exceeded expectations early in his pro career and has the upside of a mid-rotation starter."

Now if only the NY Rangers could do with their feeder system what the Yanks have done with theirs.
