Aaron Boone on Gary Sanchez's DL stint: "Maybe it's a time that we make sure he's staying proactive with the conditioning, so that when he does come back he's in the best possible place so that he can be physically sound the rest of the way."

Lol ouch. Boone just said El Gary was out of shape.

Ouch. But that’s on Boone too.
Agreed. I think Gary has been affected the most of anyone on the team by not having Girardi and Pena around. I could be wrong but he strikes me as the type of guy who needs some tough love and guidance.

What’s strange is there was chatter that part of the reason Girardi wasn’t brought back was he wasn’t hard enough on Sanchez for his work habits.
Girardi also had to go public with some tough love last season for Sanchez. Boone’s now doing the same

I heard the opposite. They thought Joe was too tough sometimes and couldn't relate to the younger generation. They wanted a kinder, gentler approach. Plus Joe wouldn't be a Yes man to the guys upstairs.
All that aside, I hope they keep Gary on a tight leash while he's injured, and actually do as Boone said. We just need him to be the Gary of old going forward when he comes back. He doesn't need to make up for lost time, just produce through the end of the season.
Eman11, re: Girardi - I think you’re right about all that...I just also recall a story somewhere that Cashman and company weren’t happy with Joe’s inability to get Sanchez to step it up.
So essentially, it’s same ultimate reason they cited in not bringing him back - failure to relate to younger players. Now Boone has a test on his hands
He absolutely is. Have to be patient, but he hasn't a clue. With Sanchez, at least he made solid contact when he wasn't swinging at pitches off the plate. Bird is all weak contact.
Bird is hitting 219 for his career. The clock is ticking
Well he really doesn't have that many MLB at bats, plus he has missed most of the 2 1/2 seasons due to injury. I'm not ready to give up on him, but it may be time to give him some development time.
John Kruk is actually pretty good to listen to. And not that big a Philly homer, at least so far tonight.
When Stanton lined a single earlier, he went on a funny little rant about people who complain about the shift, saying if hitters don’t like it, do what Stanton just did
The other announcer (Tom McCarthy I think) started claiming the Phillies were the better team in 2009...Kruk quickly cut him off and started talking about how good Rivera, Matsui and ARod were that year
probably like to get a chance to hit, but I still dont know why any AL team lets their pitchers do anything but bunt when they hit in NL parks. If I managed an AL team I wouldn't let the pitchers take the bat off of their shoulder unless it was to bunt. Take every pitch and walk back to the dugout unless they walk you.

I don't disagree, but Loaisiga seemed to swing well.
Speaking of bunting - Walker should try bunting down toward 3rd base with the shift on.

I'm glad Boone didn't pull a LaRussa and is batting the pitcher 9th.

Again, never would want it to happen for injury reasons but i'd love to see Judge or Stanton throw a few pitches lol

For his career.
Yes he did. He blew one completely last inning. Clearly in the zone and he just missed it.
Oh great, Neil Walker for Greg Bird on the double switch...maybe be ok though.
Hahaha. I thought the same freakin thing!
When Stanton lined a single earlier, he went on a funny little rant about people who complain about the shift, saying if hitters don’t like it, do what Stanton just did
Great work by DRob finishing that inning
Not seeing it get away is one thing, but then seeing it and trotting down the line is laughable. He was only out by a couple steps.
The other announcer (Tom McCarthy I think) started claiming the Phillies were the better team in 2009...Kruk quickly cut him off and started talking about how good Rivera, Matsui and ARod were that year
Greg Bird/Neil Walker - same black hole at the plate.

Kruck was awful. Not as awful as Joe Morgan, but, he was awful.
