NFT: RIP Dan Ingram Disc Jockey

The 12th Man : 6/25/2018 11:43 pm
One of the best there ever was

My youth is passing away

He was a part of my teenage and college years. One of the "Good Guys"

The lineup on WABC
Frank in Silver Spring : 6/26/2018 7:00 am : link
was incredible. Harrison to Lundy to Ingram to Morrow to Donovan. I can still remember the jingles and distinctive way each name was introduced at the beginning of each shift. Tell your kids about what AM radio was back then and they think you're taking about listening to FDR's fireside chats.

But it was damn good. RIP to him and all the rest of those great DJ's.
I think I vaguely remember him.

Did he call himself Dandy Dan Ingram?

A tear to my eye when I heard. A piece of my youth went with him

RIP Dan Ingram
I can hear that jingle in my head...
BamaBlue : 6/26/2018 7:59 am : link
"Music radiooo, W.A.B.C..." Funny how memory works; every time I hear the song, "Kung-Fu Fighting" I think of WABC.
Reminds me of my youth

listening to NY AM radio. How different a world we live in now.

RIP
Man that hurts

brings back a memory of that transistor radio with the one ear plug. Later I graduated to a "HiFi" stereo and WNEW but before high school it was all about those guys on WABC

You forgot Scott Muni pre-WNEW-FM
I got to know Dan pretty well
Section331 : 6/26/2018 8:58 am : link
when he was at CBS-FM, and I worked at the network. My office was just outside the door into the radio station, and Dan would often come into my office, plop himself into a chair, and shoot the shit for a while.

Totally unassuming, and a genuinely nice man. RIP Dan, if there is an after-life, I hope it involves you spinning records for everyone.

Indeed - a demerit on overlooking Mr. Muni. Just a great era in NYC radio.
I always remember Chris Berman
bceagle05 : 6/26/2018 11:17 am : link
saying "Maaaaaark Ingram!" during Giants highlights as a tribute to the "Daaaaan Ingram!" radio intro.
Stern did a whole segment on him

today on his show.
Brings back early 70's memories
mrvax : 6/26/2018 1:08 pm : link
of being at the beach with a small radio.

Thanks Jay! It's funny, I was there at the time that video was made, but I don't remember him with a beard.
My older brothers were in scouts with Ron Lundy's kid.

CBS FM - they used to have a terrific Halloween show.

And did they used to play Dr. Demento on Sunday nights?

Chris

Ron was one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to know. In an industry with so much backstabbing and infighting, I never heard Ron say a bad word about anyone.
