So happy he finally contributed.
Man, they are tattooing Arrieta
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 7:50 pm : link
Andujar hits another rocket but at Franco, 107 mph.
Romine with the lucky slide
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/26/2018 8:03 pm : link
...
Kind of surprised the Phillies are sticking with Arrieta
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:04 pm : link
Romine's double was the 5th or 6th ball hit over 100, I think, and its only the third
Sorry, fourth
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:04 pm : link
.
Hicks with three hard hit balls.

Loving his ABs
Hey look at that
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:08 pm : link
A called strike three on Judge that was a legit strike. How novel.
And there's another
Eman11 : 6/26/2018 8:09 pm : link
Judgian phantom strike call.

I'm watching it on the Phillies channel and they don't have that box and possibly a different angle but it sure looked away on this broadcast.
I'm just going by Gameday
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:11 pm : link
Looked close but in there
Sevy looks like he's just toying with them right now
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:13 pm : link
8 pitch inning, 2 Ks. Nice
Didi!
adamg : 6/26/2018 8:15 pm : link
Love this team.
Didi goes yard... 6-0.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/26/2018 8:15 pm : link
I guess the problem was that the Rays are just the best team in baseball.
This is like batting practice
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:18 pm : link
Artist's got nothing. Even the outs are scorched.

Ahh ok.

I'm in a sweet spot in Jersey where I get both the NY and Philly channels. Great for football season and figured I'd tune in to listen to Kruk and what their announcers say about the Yanks.

They don't have that distracting strike zone like YES does and it's refreshing to watch a game without it. You're right the pitch was close but on this broadcast I thought it was a little wide.

Btw, Kruk and the play by play guy are definitely impressed with Sevy and the Yanks. Kruk is saying how you gotta tip your cap to the Yanks, they're not missing pitches. Any mistake Arietta makes they're crushing it.
Arrieta not Artist

14 batters... 14 first pitch strikes by Sevy
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/26/2018 8:26 pm : link
....
Sevy
Eman11 : 6/26/2018 8:27 pm : link
14-14 on 1st pitch strikes.

Kruk says besides a couple of swings it's like man vs boys out there tonight.
Hello... Boone? Tell these pitchers to stop swinging!

Dominance has become routine for Severino
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 8:40 pm : link
I'm too young to have seen 1978 Guidry, so this has been the most overpowering starting pitching by a Yankee in my memory.

I think you might be right about that.

I was dialed into the Yanks during Guidry's year and it was an incredible dominating year by him. Best I've ever seen by a Yankee pitcher in my lifetime.

If Sevy keeps this up all year it'll be right up there though.
This has been a fun game.
Dave in Hoboken : 6/26/2018 9:23 pm : link
Sevy was on his game tonight, too.
What a game for Hicks.

If he rights the ship he’s a huge asset. Bringing him in a 6-0 games is perfectly fine.

Ehhhh. He came in to a 4-0 game a week or two ago, and we had to bring in Chapman. No lead is safe with this guy.
Wow. Great job by the

bullpen. Shreve with the save....oh, wait.

Sevy being Sevy. Yanks 15-2 in his starts.

Good solid win.
I’m not going to harp on it
UConn4523 : 6/26/2018 9:50 pm : link
they are giving him a leash to turn things around. It makes sense since he’d be valuable come playoff time.
He's been quite bad for awhile now, though..

Sevy is fun to watch.
slickwilly : 6/26/2018 9:58 pm : link
You can see his confidence and how he just expects to sit guys down now. Between him, Verlander and Kluber the AL has seen some elite pitching so far. Plus deGrom has the NL on lock for sure.

I agree with you. As long as he's still on the team, tonight was the perfect opportunity to throw him back out there and try to get straightened out.

With Cessa going tomorrow followed by CC and then Gray, getting the rest of the pen a night off was huge.
Just gonna leave this here..

And I get that. But there’s no alternative and if he’s coming into games with a big lead to work on his game, so be it. I’m guessing everyone is glad we stuck with Betances...

We all know that but he's still on the team. Who would you have rathered they went to for the 9th tonight?
Frankly, I have more faith even in Gallegos at this point
Greg from LI : 6/26/2018 10:22 pm : link
And I'd much rather see Carroll or Feyereisen get his roster spot. It's not as if they could do worse.
Sevy at 12-2 and we're a couple weeks from the all-star break.
Del Shofner : 6/26/2018 10:24 pm : link
Don't want to jinx him but 25+ wins seems attainable. Who was the last Yankee pitcher to win 25+. (Not a trivia question - I have no idea.)
I can’t see 25 wins
UConn4523 : 6/26/2018 10:26 pm : link
he’s bound to have a few bad starts or games he pitches well and we don’t hit. 20 would be awesome, anything over that would be pretty incredible.

Huh? He's literally never seeing the inside of a close game during the postseason. (And by close, I mean anything within 8 runs either way.)

I don't have much faith in Shreve right now either but his ceiling is higher than the guys you mentioned. Maybe they will make a move towards one of them but for tonight, it was the perfect spot to bring him in.

Up 6-0 and needing to save the rest of the pen, it was a good move by Boone IMO. Shreve wasn't perfect but at least he got the taste of that one pitch walk off in Tampa out of his mouth and maybe build on this.
Just got home from the game

Seemed about 50% Yankee fans. Wasn’t too rowdy, in part bc the Yanks got up early and Sevy didn’t let them breathe

Phillies fans seemed pretty decent, mostly subdued. Talked a little baseball with some folks in our section, they mostly accept their team still ain’t very good. Aside from mustering up one half hearted Eagles chant, they didn’t have much energy.

One guy was walking around in a Saquon Giants Jersey, hats off to that guy!

That aside, Citizens Bank Park is a really nice ballpark...me and some buddies picked up some upper deck cheapies, still a good view, then spent the last few innings walking around watching from different points of view.

Sweep them away tomorrow!

Guidry, right? His 25-3 year. I don't think anyone's come close since.

Anyone know?

Gotta be Gator. Plus he went 2-0 in the postseason that year as well. 1 win in the ALCS and 1 in the WS.
The only Yankee 20 game winners since Guidry
Greg from LI : 6/27/2018 12:26 am : link
That I can think of are Pettitte, Cone, Clemens, Mussina, and CC. Don't think any of them had more than 21.

I went as well, just got home. Great ballpark indeed. I have a very unhealthy hatred of the Eagles and Flyers but the Phillies and Sixers don't bother me. Perfect night at the ballpark, couldn't have asked for a better game result wise or weather wise.
