I think Callaway has already given up on the season
Eric on Li : 6/26/2018 7:17 pm : link
Has Jose Bautista ever hit leadoff before? I guess age 37 is a great time to give it a shot. Maybe it was on his bucket list.
Seriously

What the hell ia Bautista doing in the lead off spot. Hopefully, given the recent news the three headed monster will start giving some of the younger guys a legitimate shot.

Don't agree with the move, but Bautista has been getting on base a ton
Yeah he also apparently hit leadoff

10+ times last year for the Blue Jays. Who knew.
I just cant believe this team...
ZGiants98 : 6/26/2018 9:18 pm : link
Every day is like groundhogs day. We are in almost every game. Almost every game is a heartbreaking loss. When we hit we dont pitch. When we pitch we dont hit. Ive never seen a worse combination of events take place over the last month in my entire life in any baseball season.
What’s not to believe at this point?
Shecky : 6/26/2018 9:24 pm : link
Cher father Marlins tonight and were in 4th place in al, of baseball...

I just cant believe the sequence of events that have transpired over the last month. Best hitter and pitcher out AGAIN during our worst stretches. First losing streak featured the best SP in all of baseball with absolutely zero offense. Second losing streak features offense but our pitching has been suspect or does just enough to give up the game... Its just crazy.
Wilmer!
ChaChing : 6/26/2018 10:33 pm : link
Wilmer!
Wilmah comes through again in late innings
Vanzetti : 6/26/2018 10:33 pm : link
!!!
Looking forward to trading Cabrera, Familia, and even Frazier

Hoping Cecchini and TJ Rivera are back in AAA soon and by the deadline both of them and McNeil are called up. Ride Smith out at 1B for the rest of the year and see what you got. With some health, we might even make things interesting or at least enjoyable in the second half.

New front office likely means new philosophies on spending. Could be a disaster but I know Sandy favored flexibility, didnt believe in long-term contracts, and always went into a season with a sizable buffer. Omar was the complete opposite and would spend every cent and then ask for more. Either way, we could see a splash for a big free agent or two in the offseason. Do Kimbrel and Machado types come back in play now? We'll see.
It's not big contracts that are the problem
Vanzetti : 6/26/2018 11:33 pm : link
It's big contracts to older players that are the problem.

Beltran was a good sign because he was 27. Machado will be 26.

Sandy's one big contract was a disaster because he gave it to Wright AFTER he had already broken his back swinging a bat. Maybe he did it for non-baseball reasons because Wright was supposedly the face of the franchise. But from a strictly baseball perspective, that is the stupid kind of contract you want to avoid.

If Omar can convince the Wilpons to sign Machado, then I'm all for it. Omar's problem was playing politics and hiring a manger with no experience and then when the Mets choked two straight years, he got desperate and signed Jay Bay.

Why would machado come to the Mets, he's sure to get multiple offers from other teams with a legit playoff shot.
he's usually mostly hot air
Eric on Li : 6/27/2018 8:43 am : link
but in the past he's had some good sources with the Mets (was close with omar and wilpons).

Despite what you might hear and see, Mets aren’t three-headed GM triumvirate. John Ricco will be point man with Minaya and Ricciardi advising. This is strictly short term. Mets will have extensive GM search after season.

Hopefully he's right. I actually think compared to last time this would be a halfway appealing opportunity for a creative GM. 2 aces, some good young position players to build on, decent amount of expiring $ (assuming the Wilpons are willing to reinvest). I doubt anyone is going to fight to keep Callaway if the new GM wants to totally clean house also.

I do hope Sandy is well enough to come back in some kind of advisory role with the search, I trust his judgment and reputation to lure/identify a talented exec far more than Jeff Wilpon.
Three headed monster
Shecky : 6/27/2018 9:13 am : link
Rico is the point, but I mentioned last night how and why this gets ugly. JP is useless. Omar is a schemer. Jeff, well nuff said...
If Francessa is right
Metnut : 6/27/2018 9:22 am : link
then that's the best news we've heard all year! The entire front office needs to be cleaned out, and if there's an extensive GM search in the offseason, then there's legitimate hope for this organization.
It’s the opposite of extensive
Shecky : 6/27/2018 9:50 am : link
But Adam Fisher is a name to keep an eye on.

I heard that Wilpon has hired Ernie Accorsi to lead the search and that Ernie has one candidate, Omar Minaya

is close with Jeff Wilpon. This is a well known fact. Who do you think fed him the Jason Bay news?

what did I tell you about that tiny Dom Smith sample size... he's been horrendous. Still a very small SS and I'd give him the rest of the season but the guy just isn't very good.
It doesn't matter who they hire for GM

It wasn't just a tiny sample size, a big part of that tiny sample size was in Coors Field of all places!
Doesnt matter

Alonzo will take over soon enough

Another bust
It is very sad, but the Mets have NO TALENT!
Phil in Joisey : 6/27/2018 6:19 pm : link
Management does not recognize talent. The draft choices are a joke. The free agents are just as awful.
Skip pitchers for a moment and tell me what roster players
you'd like to see back on the team next season.
I have only four: Nimmo, Conforto, Rosario and Flores.
Blow this team up.
Blow Management of this team up.
Blow Ownership of this team up.
Give the fans a break. We deserve better.
Kelenic seems like a confident kid
