Man oh man can things possibly get any worse?
Don't agree with the move, but Bautista has been getting on base a ton
I just cant believe the sequence of events that have transpired over the last month. Best hitter and pitcher out AGAIN during our worst stretches. First losing streak featured the best SP in all of baseball with absolutely zero offense. Second losing streak features offense but our pitching has been suspect or does just enough to give up the game... Its just crazy.
New front office likely means new philosophies on spending. Could be a disaster but I know Sandy favored flexibility, didnt believe in long-term contracts, and always went into a season with a sizable buffer. Omar was the complete opposite and would spend every cent and then ask for more. Either way, we could see a splash for a big free agent or two in the offseason. Do Kimbrel and Machado types come back in play now? We'll see.
Beltran was a good sign because he was 27. Machado will be 26.
Sandy's one big contract was a disaster because he gave it to Wright AFTER he had already broken his back swinging a bat. Maybe he did it for non-baseball reasons because Wright was supposedly the face of the franchise. But from a strictly baseball perspective, that is the stupid kind of contract you want to avoid.
If Omar can convince the Wilpons to sign Machado, then I'm all for it. Omar's problem was playing politics and hiring a manger with no experience and then when the Mets choked two straight years, he got desperate and signed Jay Bay.

Why would machado come to the Mets, he's sure to get multiple offers from other teams with a legit playoff shot.

Despite what you might hear and see, Mets aren’t three-headed GM triumvirate. John Ricco will be point man with Minaya and Ricciardi advising. This is strictly short term. Mets will have extensive GM search after season.
Hopefully he's right. I actually think compared to last time this would be a halfway appealing opportunity for a creative GM. 2 aces, some good young position players to build on, decent amount of expiring $ (assuming the Wilpons are willing to reinvest). I doubt anyone is going to fight to keep Callaway if the new GM wants to totally clean house also.
I do hope Sandy is well enough to come back in some kind of advisory role with the search, I trust his judgment and reputation to lure/identify a talented exec far more than Jeff Wilpon.
Had a tweet storm defending the Mets recently...
I heard that Wilpon has hired Ernie Accorsi to lead the search and that Ernie has one candidate, Omar Minaya
It wasn't just a tiny sample size, a big part of that tiny sample size was in Coors Field of all places!
Another bust
Skip pitchers for a moment and tell me what roster players
you'd like to see back on the team next season.
I have only four: Nimmo, Conforto, Rosario and Flores.
Blow this team up.
Blow Management of this team up.
Blow Ownership of this team up.
Give the fans a break. We deserve better.
