Front office taking it to the extreme with the new “focus on player development” and having them major league ready. Getting them used to complete game loses early...
Candidates
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2018 9:20 am : link
to be GM

(Ricco... 2004-2018... 5 seasons over .500, including 83 wins... Davidoff frames it like the Mets have been really good with Ricco here)

If they somehow decide to sign

Ricco to a multiyear deal after the season I might join Arc or just waive the white flag in another way.
Ricco
Vanzetti : 6/27/2018 11:42 am : link

Ricco's background primarily is administrative and not in evaluating players - more along the lines of former GM Jim Duquette than Minaya. As a result, Ricco likely would need to lean on his deputies for recommendations.

He worked in the Commissioner's Office for 12 years before coming to the Mets in 2004, primarily handling waiver claims and arbitration cases.

So, basically, he was a clerk for Selig, who then recommended him to his good buddy Freddy Coupons. Has no background in player evaluation.

Not trying to rag on him because whenever I have seen him interviewed he seems like a good guy. But this is exactly what the Mets don't need. A poor man's Sandy Alderson.
Ricco - ( New Window )
Jason McLeod

Of all the guys being mentioned, he seems to me to be the top candidate
Ricco
DanMetroMan : 6/27/2018 11:47 am : link
was reportedly against buying in 2015 and is considered highly conservative. Just what they need baby!

It'll be Ricco or Fisher.
Having an administrative specialist is fine,

as long as he sticks to administration. In that case, you need someone who's very good at scouting, player acquisition and evaluation to take charge of all that stuff. There's no problem with division of labor -- you just want everybody doing what they're good at, and delegating the things they're not good at.

Not one who has been with Jeff and Fred for 15 years now.
